Just across the road from my work, this is my place of choice for a quick bite to eat. Arriving in Glasgow before 8am on work days I rarely have time for breakfast before I leave the house, but Peppers is always my first stop. With a decent range of hot rolls and toast on offer I always find something to tide me over until lunch. At lunch there is plenty to choose from with soups, chips, macaroni, curry, etc among the usual foods on offer. I always take away but there is a comfortable eating area and wifi available too. Nothing fancy but good food and a warm welcome are all you need!

Peppers is fine for food, it is not a place I would wander to on my own accord but instead I might observe as a friend bought and enjoyed something. The point is its not for me, but my friends like it for a quick bit of fatty food to eat. Peppers reminds me of a school canteen or a work place canteen, where things are done in an unimaginative and basic way. With so much on offer in such a big city, Peppers could do better.

Peppers reminds me of the kind of coffee-and-a-roll café’s Glasgow used to have more of in the 90s before it went all cosmopolitan on us. Despite the fact I like the fancy shamsy deli’s and café/bars, I do rather enjoy a good old fashioned bacon and egg roll double up, so being a hungry hippo this afternoon I stopped in for a munch. People from surrounding offices were congregating outside this basement café so I expected to it to heaving inside — it was, but holy Moses these ladies know how to deplete a queue in miliseconds! There were about half a dozen people in front of me, including businessmen who skipped me in the queue — wherever you are gentlemen, be ashamed for your lack of manners! Just shows money can’t buy you courtesy but before I offend anyone with my socialism I should really continue… …the said gents were quite curt towards the server but she dealt with them super efficiently, so impressive! I’ve worked in places like this for years and a lack of manners really gets my goat(can you tell?) so I admired and respected her glossing over the issue. The girls got through the queue in a manner of minutes and even though it was rammed, they didn’t look harrassed. As for the food selections, they do a banging breakfast deal — roll and tea/coffee for £1.50! — lots of healthy options for baked potatoes, rolls and sandwiches, and breakfast rolls throughout the day. They also have a variety of cakes, chocolate and loads of juice in the fridge. Great place to go for lunch if you work in the offices across the road and you won’t be kept waiting no matter how busy it gets! The food itself is really tasty — I got a sausage roll and I wolfed it down it was so good. I’ll definitely be going back, maybe try a baked potato next time since their salad and relish options looked good!
