The Mews is very close to my work, it’s great for grabbing a quick lunch to take back to the office. They have the usual — sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes and soups. But they often have some fillings and soups that are little more unusual. One lunch there was a choice of four tuna fillings from standard tuna mayo to tuna in a soy and spring onion dressing. They also do a great spicy coleslaw! These fillings change regularly, and the staff are always happy to take you through the choices. I particularly enjoy the baked potatoes and their sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup is a winner. Sometimes the paninies can be a little under toasted, I think because it gets very busy at lunch. They have daily specials or different sandwich fillings and styles, often including flat bread and you can add soup to these. The prices aren’t too bad for what you get, it’s very similar to many sandwich shops in the area — you can average at about £5 for lunch. It’s not somewhere I’d go out my way to eat at, had I not work so close by. But the staff are very friendly and they have seating outside for all those summer days. Also for breakfast they serve good peanut butter on toast! And make cheese scones on a Friday — they don’t last long.

Visited for take out lunch today. Not a bad wee local. The standard fare in regards to sandwich fillings and cakes, nice bread choices though and some good specials. Today I nabbed some ham and lentil soup and a panini with cheese, pastrami and chorizo. Pretty tasty and not bad at all for the price(£4). Staff were quite busy dealing with the lunchtime rush but still made time for a friendly hello to all the regulars.

I like this place. Have I been to better cafes? Yes. But when you are looking for a spot to study/work or a quick place to grab a bite, it is quite lovely. Of course, the girls working are quite loud so if you don’t like working with headphones, I suggest you not come here. However, the employees are quite nice and there seems to be a very steady regular clientele. The coffee I actually really enjoyed! The food is quite average — not bad by any means, just average. Paninis and sandwiches and very simple breakfasts. But the price goes with this and everything is around 2 – 3 pounds!(yay for broke university students!) They also have a very nice terrasse in the front, so if it’s a nice day, by all means come here!

The Mews is a great local lunch time haunt that I frequent daily to the point the staff generally know what I want and whether i’m early or later than usual. The staff are really friendly and on the ball even during the periods the place is packed out, the ladies here will generally go out of their way to make sure you get the food you want. Priced reasonably and is quite clean. The only remark I would make is that if you are allergic to fish, nuts etc then you should really consider going elsewhere as its too small of a location to be considering cross contamination issues with allergies. Other than that I would highly recommend The Mews.

Lovely little coffee shop. I pop in here every so often as I work nearby and can’t fault it. Their soup is home made, always tasty, and at £1.75(I believe) for soup and a roll, it’s very reasonably priced. I’m not sure why someone has said the prices would make Starbucks blush… prices do seem higher in the West End but they are certainly not overprices here. Coffee and filled rolls are also spot on. It’s very wee and there aren’t many tables, but I think most of their business is from people working in the surrounding offices(as someone else has mentioned, they have a regular/loyal customer base). They do have a decently sized patio which is perfect when the sun is shining. Perfect destination to grab a bite for lunch.

I hate to give a bad review, but I feel like it is in the public’s best interests to avoid wasting any money at The Mews. Don’t get me wrong, the staff, location and atmosphere are all lovely. The food and prices however, are a different story. Baked potatoes are often undercooked, and always lacking filling. One time I just had a clump of pepper on my ‘salad’ and some dry processed chicken. Panini’s regularly get served after a 5 minute wait without even the semblance of melted cheese. The bread is poor quality… to be fair, the homemade soups are sometimes delicious, ut then again sometimes watery/oily/lumpy and just plain terrible. All of this for prices that would make even Starbucks blush. Fine for a cuppa, pointless for anything else.

This part of town is not lacking in decent coffee shops, and this is one of those. But what makes this my preferred café? Apart from the coffee being damn fine? Firstly, location. It’s situated on one of those side roads leading off the Edwardian residential/office part of SausageRoll Street, near one of those paths leading up to the Woodlands, it is quiet. Perfect for just sitting and enjoying a large cup oh the black and reading a book or paper. Secondly, furniture. Wiggles isn’t a small person. I’m certainly not mobility scooter large, but I ain’t small. Wiggles gets a little frightened by spindly chairs. Wiggles really has to stop with this 3rd person nonsense. If I want to spend time over a coffee, I’m going to want to do so confident that the chair I sit on isn’t going to buckle and collapse. Coffee houses of Glasgow, take note, get rid of your cheap spindly Ikea seating and invest in some sturdy chairs, like this place has. It’s this simple little thing that will keep me coming back here over some of the other places in this area. Thirdly, the outdoor patio. Sitting here with a good cup of coffee and a book, on a sunny, crisp October noon just off the street did great things for the soul. Until that damned wasp came along and ruined everything. I hate wasps, stupid creatures.
