It’s Pure Gym, within reason they’re all the same! I thought I’d give this one a try(somehow thinking it would be different to previous ones I’ve used) as it’s now my closest gym. The good: — As it’s so new, as you would expect it’s still fresh and new looking. I seen some of the walls being painted the other day so the upkeep seems pretty good — There’s usually a cleaner in at some point and the whole place seems to be kept quite clean — There’s loads of cardio equipment — There free weights area has loads of benches and a good range of weights — There’s 3 squat racks. THREE. That’s loads for Pure Gym — It’s cheap The bad: — It’s has a cold feel about it with next to no atmosphere — If you ever have a problem or need help there’s barely any staff to be seen — No area to comfortably do lifts such as deadlifts — ALWAYS busy apart from around 8am-11am and afternoon i.e. 2pm-4pm All in all it’s fine for what it is, it’s cheap and has most of the things you’d need to do a decent workout. If there was a better gym closer I probably wouldn’t choose this one though!

This location is quite new — opened in early November. I joined right after because they were running a great promotion. The gym itself is very clean and consists of two floors. The groud floor is made up of the free weight section, some weight machines, rowing machines, and the group fitness room. The top floor consists of the locker rooms, all cardio equipment, a stretching area, and the spinning room. They have tons of treadmills and ellipticals; I’ve never witnessed a line. My only small complaint about the cardio equipment is that there are only two stair-stepper machines. Usually it’s not an issue and no one is on them but sometimes they do get bogged down. The locker rooms are very well kept but they do periodically post signs about the hot water not working. I’ve never used the showering facilities so that doesn’t apply to me but it would be annoying if it did. For the price, location, and the fact that they’re open 24 hours it’s totally worth joining. Definitely bring headphones and your own jams because they blast the same playlist over and over again and it’s annoying. Drown it out, get your fitness on, and enjoy the place!

If you’ve never set foot in a Pure Gym before let me tell you, it’s kinda like the Easyjet of gyms; it’s cheap, pretty no-frills, but a little nicer than those in the same price bracket. Having been a member of the gym on Bath St, I took a chance on this gym as it was slightly cheaper and only recently built(although Bath St has recently been refurbished). I’m not going to write a lot about this gym, instead I give you a pro’s and con’s list: Pro’s: 1. It’s about as new as a gym can be without being a crossfit-ikea-bobthebuilder mash-up! 2. It’s pretty quiet compared to Bath St. 3. There’re plenty of cardio machines 4. The free-weights area seems bigger than Bath St. 5. They offer free classes in 2 separate studio spaces. 6. The hairdryers don’t blow their fuse everytime you use them(unlike Bath St). 7. Every time I’ve been in I’ve seen at least 1 cleaner. Con’s: 1. The music is the same awful drivel they play elsewhere. 1(ii) Aaaagh! That music! 2. The weight machines are scattered over 2 floors, when they could quite easily have been put in one place. 3. Upstairs is totally soulless, it could still be a garage. 4. You have to be really quick to get a space in some of the classes. 5. They took the peanut butter clif bars out’ve the vending machines(–50 cool points) I want to like this gym, I want to say it’s better than Bath St, but it’s just too white(not the clientele). It feels like a gym showroom, but with people using the equipment. This is my opinion of it, perhaps other people love the airy ceilings & clean walls, but to me it just sucks the fun out’ve being there. I’ll keep going to the gym, so maybe there’ll be a change of heart in the future.

Pure. Gym. Checked this place out because why not: thoroughly inexpensive, in comparison to other gyms. This has to be taken into consideration when making any judgments about this place. In the positive camp, it’s in a good location not only for locals but from anywhere in the surrounding areas. It is of course also open 24 hours a day. There’s plenty of gear, and it’s all brand new. There machines are not second rate. They have two powerplates, for example, which are great for warming up and cooling down. There’s a huge free weights section and a dedicated area solely for spin class and another for a varied programme of classes which are all built into the modest monthly fee, aside from a few ran by non-Pure Gym staff. All in, it’s excellent value for money. On the negative camp, there’s example one water dispenser, across both floors. Also, the entry/exit system is a bit claustrophobic, but then again I don’t know how else they could keep costs down, so not really a valid grievance. Worth checking out if you are local — at £10.99 month, you are sure to get your money’s worth. Oh, and if you’re super keen, you can capitalise on personal training programmes.

This gym opened in early October in the Charing Cross/Woodlands area(which sorely lacked fitness options — until now.) The gym is all new, so it’s clean and airy and everything works. They have a good variety of weights and machines around the lower floor, and a room full of treadmills and cardio equipment upstairs. They’ve also got a spin/cycle room and a studio for classes downstairs. The locker rooms are nice; not huge, but there’s enough space. My two minor complaints about this gym are: 1. The space pod entrance. You put in your code, and the first side of the pod opens. You step inside and it shuts behind you! Then the other side opens and lets you through. As a claustrophobic person, this is not fun. 2. The volume — the music is up way too loud, especially upstairs. Downstairs, the noise from the ongoing classes can be a bit much on top of the already-loud music. I find I have to turn my headphones way, way up to drown it all out. I’ve been in a few times now — weeknights are busier, but I still haven’t had much trouble using the equipment or machines I’m after. Definitely no trouble with cardio machines — there are plenty available. Sunday afternoons have been quiet. Staff are really helpful too — I had to ask about how to use a particular machine and the guy came over and showed me exactly how to set up the machine and use it correctly. All in all, I’m enjoying it so far!
