I used to live above Roast, so for a year between 2012 – 2013 it was my regular. I suppose the best compliment I can offer is that despite having moved twice since then, I still make the time to come back. It is the ideal local café: It is cosy(to use the vernacular of estate agents), the staff are lovely(they make the effort to come and say hello whenever I am in) and the food and coffee is great. Oh, and they always play Bruce Springsteen and Kate Bush. What more do you need? My usual is a cappuccino(Pretty Green coffee and a large cup is standard) and a link sausage and egg sandwich with brown sauce, which usually comes to about £5. Simple but very satisfying. The menu is not West End(No Eggs Benedict, soz!) but the ingredients are always top quality. No battery eggs or cheap sausage in sight. No pretence, just good food and lovely surroundings.

Like a few others I’ve often passed here so often but never felt drawn in. Everywhere l seem to go everyone has a similar look and they are even selling the same product, maybe l was looking for something different. I was out and not wanting to dirty any of my dishes l walked down the street looking for somewhere that l hadn’t tried before. I ordered the pulled pork bun, bbq sauce & coleslaw with a few bottles of ginger beer, total with drinks £8. Most speciality sandwiches are £5 or under. They also do breakfasts here l will definitely have to come back and try them out.

Great food and friendly service. The interior is a little tired but it’s mostly a takeaway place and the quality of the food really makes up for the lack of seating. The man serving at the counter was very warm and chatty and I’ll definitely be back :)

I’ve been ‘working from home’ a fair bit lately and when in Glasgow I’ve chosen to eat out for lunch occasionally rather than grab a sandwich from the kitchen and end up not taking a proper break. Roast is just down the road from me, a few doors down from Firebird and a few doors up from Happy Lets. I’d walked past a few times and wondered what it was like so on this cold winters day, I popped in for some lunch and was not disappointed. The place isn’t huge with a few tables and chairs to seat 10⁄12 people tops so you might land lucky and get a seat or you may not — although if not, everything they do can be taken away. There’s a very big menu ranging from a variety of all-day breakfast type options to some fab sounding burgers, deli sandwiches, soups and daily specials — plenty to choose from, maybe too much choice for someone as indecisive as me when it comes to ordering food. On both visits, I’ve been lucky and grabbed a seat. The first time I had a nice table in the window and sat down with a courtesy newspaper and enjoyed my lunch. The second time it was busier and after a short wait I managed to secure a seat at a ‘breakfast bar’ along the wall which was a bit tight for room and not to comfy on a high stool — as such I didn’t stay as long as I would have liked. On both occasions I ordered the All-Day breakfast which comes with tea/coffee for £6 and was very pleased. Food was well cooked, nicely presented and very tasty. I was not hungry afterwards! 4 stars simply reflects the potential lack of seating if the place is busy — it certainly seems popular and that’s no bad thing. I would not hesitate to recommend to others and will be back soon to try something different from the menu… if I can only decide what to have!

Popped in for an impromptu weekday lunch with my husband after walking past so many times and vowing to try it. We both chose the brisket roll with garlic mushrooms — £5 each, so high hopes — which were not disappointed. One of the finest sandwiches I’ve had in Glasgow — a freshly made, possibly slightly sweet toasted roll, loads of filling(chunks of meat rather than just shredded fibres) and a definite two-napkin job. Roast doesn’t get the full five stars though as we did have a 15 – 20 min wait for our sandwiches. We realised why when we saw a huge order for an office or similar going out the door. However, the place itself was very quiet and it was pretty frustrating to have such a long wait on a short lunch break. It’s not as if serving the few people who were sitting around waiting was an impossible task — there should have been enough staff to do both over a lunch time, especially when all the fillings are clearly out in the kitchen ready to go. Also — the rolls were great, but came with nothing else — some sort of garnish would have been nice. A couple of pickle slices m or some crisps?(Finnieston competitor Piece, though all its fillings are cold, does always do a side salad.) Still, I would happily return. Just not perhaps when pressed for time!

I’ve stopped in here for take away coffee countless times but I’d been putting off writing a review for until I got the chance to try the food. I’m glad that I waited because that chance came along today. The coffee is very good(I believe it’s Dear Green) which is why I keep going back for the coffee. It’s well worth picking up a loyalty card so that your tenth coffee is free. It provides exactly the push I need on my way to work. So I would have given them a good review based on the coffee alone. I’m not giving a good review though, I’m giving a great review. Today was a nice lazy Saturday and it was time for a late lunch. What I wanted, really, was the brisket roll. They apologised — the brisket was all gone, perhaps I’d like a cheese steak? I admit that I was disappointed, but I accepted the recommendation and took a nice comfy seat by the window. Roast is quite a small establishment and I suspect they during busy hours they probably run out of seats quite often. What they do have is cosy and comfortable, but I don’t think I’d like to sit at the bar that runs along the wall since I think I’d get in people’s way, what with it being so small and so popular. On the other hand, the window seats are the perfect spot from which to watch Glasgow wandering by. I’ve never had a cheese steak before but I recognise that, since it’s an American classic, certain people probably have very strong opinions about how it should be done. I now join their ranks. It should be done the way that Roast do it. Tender strips of beef steak, sautéed red and green bell peppers, soft, velvety mature cheese. All in fluffy, floury light bread. I think it might just be the perfect sandwich. I’m certainly not disappointed about the brisket any more.

First visit and loved the pulled pork with BBQ sauce on a bun. Tasty without being greasy and the coleslaw on top was a nice touch. Also tried the steak and cheese ciabatta which was delicious. Nothing too overpowering and the right amount of cheese for me. Roast is pretty small so better suited for takeaways but I’ll definitely be back… sliders!!!

Okay I take it back… Roast do the nicest Reuben in Glasgow! The meat is wafer thin so avoids that sometimes chewy texture that can occur with thicker cuts. The roll was splendid… crusty on the outside and super soft inside. It had a nice spicy kick with some Cajun/chilli mayo. It was on the specials board so not sure how often it features, but will definitely be going back. Epic.

Roast is pretty unassuming from the outside, to be honest I initially thought it was just another coffee shop. If you are walking past it looks inviting enough and you can tell they sell food when you spot the big counter, but the sit in space is limited to a few stools along one side and at the window. When you walk in you can smell the yummy food! And oh my was it yummy. After some recommendations from fellow Unilocaler Pammi G I headed along with high expectations for the food! I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed. I’m glad I was with my husband as I couldn’t decide what to order — so many things sounded good — so we ordered the pulled pork & coleslaw roll and the brisket roll and shared them both. I’m not sure which I preferred, they were both full of flavours and the rolls were rammed full of meat! I would definitely recommend this place to you all and I need to pay another visit soon.

I’d seen a few reviews and raves and decided to try it myself. I work at the other end of Finnieston so I don’t normally schlep all the way up that way if I’m honest. I couldn’t decide between the pulled pork of cheesesteak and when I asked the staff they said both were best sellers but the pork could be a bit messy. Not wanting to ruin my new top I went for the cheesesteak. I was prepared to be disappointed(I’m American so y’know) but I was not. It’s not a traditional Philly Cheesesteak but it is a really yummy steak sandwich with really nice steak that is cooked and seasoned well(not chewy at all), grilled peppers and onions and cheese. I probably could have done with a wee bit more cheese but that would be my only critique. The sandwich clocked in at £5 which I think was a bargain for the quality.

I just loved Roast. In my usual indecisive way, I opted for their little platter of sliders showcasing all three roast meats of the day. The philly cheese steak was the highlight and was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a very long time. Seriously, it was worth the trip all the way from Edinburgh. I’d recommend this place very highly indeed. Overall, we said: «I thought Roast was one of the finest sandwich shops cafes I’ve come across in a good long while. They match great coffee with fantastic sandwiches for a really pleasing experience. I look forward to my next cheese steak and hope to see you there when I visit.»

***WARNINGEXCITEMENTALERT**** I’m so late to the Roast party and I kinda a bit disappointed in myself for not trying it earlier! Let’s get the negative bits out the way first! I had to wait outside because of big dog! Roast is doggy friendly but rogue is a bit oversized and it’s such a little place it would have been to hectic. Austen M finally comes out with the food. First up is a half of the BLT now BLT’s is normally my first choice but OHMY! Served up thin Ciabatta, the fat was cut off the bacon and the was a hint of Mayo type of dressing. OHMY! Tasty is an understatement. Next up the Pulled pork roll… why did we share??? Massive! Packed with pork I mean packed. The taste was incredible. spicy and the juice was dripping right out of it! It had a kind curry type taste to it. On top of that was some slaw. To tasty. I could eat this again and again! I will be back to try everything else on their menu!

Roast I am most definitely a fan… To the staff member who spotted my dog outside waiting for me in the freezing cold,(T was there to, but she had a jacket on), and let me know that Roast is dog friendly and that he could come in. You are awesome! Now the food. I had halves of two tasty bites. Firstly I went with the BLT in a ciabatta. It was really thin, but really really good. I would definitely have it again. Second treat was a lovely pulled pork roll with slaw. Again it was great. The pulled pork was super smokey and the toasted roll was great. Roast is great. I went on a Sunday and it was mobbed and you can see why. Super friendly staff and great food. I will be back for a takeaway lunch very very soon. I might even take«the dug» along and sit in for a bite.

Roast is one of those places I’ve gone past at least 1,000 times, but have never made it into — I often peer in the window and then keep walking in favour I can sit in and eat. Sure, there’s seating but there isn’t much of it so it’s more a grab-and-go kind of place. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak ciabatta to go and was impressed that it was freshly made. For £5 I wasn’t expecting much steak but there was a good amount and it was smothered in cheese and peppers — very rich and indulgent but delicious all the same. It was a good sized portion too and left me feeling nicely full after scoffing the whole thing in about 30 seconds. While I was waiting for it to be made, I had a good look at the breakfast menu — most roll combinations you can think of, toast, bagels, and quite the range of breakfast sandwiches which all sound pretty delicious. The veggie stacker sounds amazing — cheddar, potato scones, garlic mushrooms and fried egg — yum! I’ll be back.

So glad that you can’t see the me drooling just remembering how good the sandwich was that I had from here! I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich in Ciabatta. It was maybe the tastiest sandwich I have had in recent memory. The beef was tender and delicious, the bread perfectly toasted. The cheese was cheesealicious and the sauce… oohhh the tasty sauce. Basically you must go here and try it… NOW!

These guys make the DOPEST sammiches around. Although there’s not much room to eat inside(this is a takeaway joint) if you order something that takes a while such as the awesome Philly Cheeseteak(super dope) you can take a seat whilst you wait either inside or out. Specials change frequently but when their Cheesesteak is sooooo good it doesn’t really matter. Order this now.

The first time I walked into Roast on Old Dumbarton Road looking for a coffee I was pretty surprised to find inside a little take away gem. From the outside I had given it very little though when I had passed by, thinking that it looked like quite a cool take away coffee spot. Little did I know they were hiding a little foodie wonderland in there. The inside of Roast is fairly cool but basic, there is a bar with some high stools if you fancied sitting in to eat your food or like me to perch on while you’re waiting. The wall covering along the length of one wall is a print of giant newspapers which just really tickled me. For me this is not a place to loiter, I would maybe sit with a coffee if it was raining but I prefer to take away from here… nothing wrong with that style of café tho. They have a brilliant selection of dishes here… I am going to talk a little about their breakfast menu here first. I have tried a few of these in the past and they were delicious. I seriously recommend trying the Roast Croque which is made up of a french toast sandwich stuffed full of cured ham, port salut cheese & Dijon mustard… epic right? This is one of my absolute favourite take away dishes in Glasgow and at just £4 it is a bargain, If you visit this is a ‘must try’ dish. Also worthy of a mention is their morning meat stacker, a sandwhich bursting with bacon, sausage, black pud, potato scone and fried egg. No explanation needed why this is one of my favs. On to the lunch menu, they have all the various cold sandwhich options which you would expect — tuna, chicken, ham etc. Where they really stand out tho is their selection of hot rolls — pulled pork with BBQ sauce & slaw, 100% steak beefburger with burger sauce & salad, Cheesesteak ciabatta… and lots more seriously tempting options. Today I opted tho for the slow-cooked shredded brisket with rocket, it normally also has garlic mushrooms but I hate mushrooms so I asked for mine without. When I got home and got the roll unwrapped I couldn’t wait to dive in(once I had snapped it from a million different angles, naturally!) The large roll was loaded with delicious soft moist brisket, which tasted beautiful. The roll was just at the right point of going slightly gooey from the brisket juices soaking in to it. I will definitely be back for this again soon it was scrumptious. I also got to try a bit of Mr G’s Cheesesteak — it was huge and so good. The cheese was perfectly balanced with the delicious tender steak. This would also come on my highly recommended list. As you would imagine they also make a pretty decent cup of java and every time I have had a coffee from here it as been bitter and well brewed and one of my favourite lattes in the west end. Next time you are in the area definitely pop in and try these guys they are fantastic.

I have only managed to pop in here for a take-away coffee(whilst I was in the vicinity) so far as unfortunately it is slightly a bit too far away for me to just drop in on an average day, sadly. With it being more of a take-away kinda joint(it’s quite wee & only a few seats inside) it’s also not really the type of place I would easily go on a Saturday morning and sit in, which is a shame as I have heard the food here is very good. First thing I noticed about Roast was as soon as I walked in there was a friendly atmosphere — there was one person sitting in having breakfast & another person(with a cute doggy!) waiting to be served(also having food) but as soon as I walked in the nice guy behind the counter smiled & asked if he could help me so I enquired as to whether they had soya milk(some places still don’t so I always like to check rather than presume) and he replied they did so I ordered myself one soya flat white to flee, sorry, to go! some old Coffee Republic habits die hard… Whilst I waited I perused the menus and was quite taken aback at the sheer amount of foods they serve here; they really cover quite a lot which is always a good thang. Whatever the other customers were having did smell pretty amazing & I was rather tempted to buy some eats but I thought ‘No.stay strong!’ Ha ha! Dead proud of myself so I am. I spotted soups, sandwiches, breakfast rolls and a whole host of other edible goodies on offer here. I have heard by quite a few people that Roast’s sandwiches are top banana. After a short wait looking about and reading some posters and the like my coffee was ready and I have to say I know this probably sounds daft but one of the reasons this coffee shop is a 4-stars is because of their FANTASTIC all black take-away cups! The wee goth in me did a Unilocal of sheer delight when I was handed the death metal coffee, or should I say, as I have now renamed it — Goffee! Ha ha! Oh yes. But not only was it a cool as cup the coffee within was tasty as heck. I had to sup it in the wind & rain(it was a horrid day) and then on a bus and it kept me cosy, warm & satiated. That was one gooooooood coffee for a pretty good price too. If I am ever lucky to be in the area again when Roast is open I will deffo pop in again for another tasty jive juice and maybe next time I will succumb to food temptation & buy some eats too.

Roast is kind of tucked away, its 5min walk from the Kelvingrove Museum, just down from Beanscene. Had a cheesesteak ciabatta to takeaway and it was good. A couple bits of the steak were a bit to chewy for my liking but it came with a really nice sauce. Did make a bit of a mess trying to eat it, it’s not one for on the move. I appreciated that it was freshly made as there was a little bit of a wait for it but it’s a small place and there were 4 of us just awkwardly waiting near the counter and it’s feels a bit like your in the way especially of those eating in . Would I go back? Yes but only if I was nearby, I wouldn’t go out of my way

The menu has changed a little, no daily specials but some of the old specials are now available every day. They still do amazing breakfast sandwiches though as well as lovely soup, sandwiches made fresh to order and baked potatoes. They also do burgers with a range of toppings starting at £3.50, crazy cheap for such a good burger. Lovely atmosphere in here too with good papers and good music.
