I’ve lived in and around the West End long enough to have visited Tennents more times than can realistically be healthy. It’s a decent sized bar with lots of real ale on tap and guest ales that change regularly. It gets super busy on Friday nights with a wide variety of patrons, from old men to students to young professionals, which is probably a sign that it’s fair drinks prices and comfortable atmosphere appeals to most. It certainly appeals to me. I most recently dropped in for lunch through the week. I’ve had hit and miss experiences with Tennent’s food, although they’ve always been quick to correct the more major misses. However, the price is good for lunch, so I ordered myself a mac and cheese and a soft drink(I had to go back to work after) and my parter ordered the classic burger and a pint(lucky sod). He was very happy with his burger but my mac and cheese was definitely lacking punch. It was a decent sized portion and the garlic bread was nice but it could definitely have been cheesier. Not that it’s put me off, I’d just get something else next time. The burgers look awfully good for ~£5. The snug just off the main bar area is always my favourite place to sit, it’s out of the way of the main hustle and bustle and is just a little more cosy and intimate. It’s ideal for a couple or a small group to sit and take their time over a few drinks and some food. The main area is much livelier and also has TVs up on the walls for sports fans. I’m serious about it getting busy on a Friday night, though. Unless you can be there before 5pm don’t expect a table. The staff are pretty great, they’ll serve you quickly and rarely get an order wrong, even when it’s busy. If it’s quieter they’re happy to talk you through their various ales and make a recommendation, or point out their special offers. They’re good for a laugh if they have the time but they won’t waste anyone’s time if they don’t. They have a function room downstairs too that I think you can book for free. It’s perfect for a bigger group and I’ve been there once or twice when people have organised parties. It’s definitely a good plan if you want somewhere in the West End that’s easy for everyone to find but you don’t want to risk a large group not having anywhere to sit. Plus it has it’s own dedicated bar so that seriously reduces your queuing time.

Sorry. I must be the only guy to get a soft drink in a bar. Was checking it out. I love the look inside here. I picked it because of its name, easy to remember being named after Scotland’s Lager. Maybe I’ll bring friends back next time. Come out Hill head. Turn left. Walk along. Keep watching right. Cross road when you see it. It’s easy to find.

I traveled all the way from Carlsbad Ca USA to Glasgow with my 18 year old son only to be thrown out because we were Catholics. I advise all fellow Americans to avoid this bigoted place and indeed not drink Tennents in any establishment.

Cheap drink, only thing that brings me back here, the limes are dry & the cocktails are from a packet. Though when I have been in there has been good banter & colourful characters up for a good chat & laugh! Ideal for a few cheap drinks before heading on to the more expensive places.

Not a bar that l thought I would ever enter into, somehow l had the thought that this was an old mans pub, maybe it was the dark exterior that gave me the impression. I came here to meet up with an old friend to catch up with the latest gossip. The interior resembled a little like a JD Weatherspoons but I liked this bar. I did see food served and many items being £4.99 definitely a place on my list to come back and try the food.

Never change, Tennents Bar, never change. I’ve heard it called an «old man pub» and that’s ok with me, being will on the way to «old man» status myself. Here’s a pub that serves a reasonable range of booze, cheaply enough you don’t wince every time you visit the bar — which is quite a novelty in the West End — which serves cheap and cheerful food, with friendly staff and without the need to blast my ear drums with music. That doesn’t mean it’s not a noisy place, I’ve never been in when it was quiet, but that noise you hear is the laughter and merriment of old friends. It’s a beautiful sound. Sure they could expand their range of beers, or improve the quality of the food, or redecorate or… well. they could do all of that but we already have Wetherspoons, craft ale bars, and gastropubs a plenty so my advice to them is to never change. My expectations when I walk through the door are met the minute I step inside, and these days that isn’t something to take for granted. Tennents Bar knows what it is and knows how to do it well. For that it should be applauded!

Tennent’s is an interesting pub and one that I can’t decide whether I like it, or if I really like it. Going for the place is the amount of Real Ales they have on draught, including the price. However the ales tend to be standard, quite boring beers such as London Pride or Everard’s Tiger — the sort of ales that turn people off and shove them into«craft beer». They also sell food, but it is the sort of mass-produced stuff you’d get at a chain pub. I feel a bit torn awarding just 3 stars, but when I look at some of the pubs I’ve given 4 stars, I would say this place is a step below. If they could get some more interesting beers available, and more local ales I’d happily review my score.

Great pub. Good selection in draft beers and the food for lunch was not bad at all. I showed up to watch the Hearts game and they had all the football matches playing on different TVs, SPL and EPL. Staff was quick and got me y drinks fast even when it was busy.

Left Side or Right Side? It’s all Good. Whether it’s an old man propping up the bar with his old friend Lagavulin, academics debating Richard Dawkins latest outburst over a Bitter and Twisted, burger munching students questioning why they went to uni in the first place, or Tennents swigging fußball cheerleaders, you and your mates will find someone to associate with. And this is the perfect spacious pub to meet those mates, or even come in on your own to rest those smelly feet. No one here will judge, man or woman. There was talk of Tennents renovating it, gentrifying it if you will, but a petition soon put a stop to that(I think?). It’d be a pity if that happened, coz it’s kind of a ‘heritage’ pub, or at least it should be with Glasgow’s history seeping out from every nook and cranny and even sitting on some of the seats. Its horseshoe bar’s commanding, decked out in antique pine, backlit by large engraved brewery mirrors and well stocked with ales, lagers, spirits and wine. There’s a large floor space to stand at busy times, plenty of seating and even a snug if you want to get away from the crowd. They also say there’s a welcoming gay corner up by the left of the bar, but I’ve never noticed any distinction. Yes, the food’s cheap pub grub and you get stared out if you dare sit in a regular’s seat(only during the day, I think), but I still find Tennents a great place to drink good beer, while away an hour or three and stare at Chinese students devouring the spare rib and chicken wing combo(that last bit sounded weird :-/) Oh, and I tend to sit at the back on the right hand side, under the brewery mirror. I’m good at staring.

I found this place to be very unfriendly and it likes to give the impression of being«a real local pub» but is anything of the sort. It was very cold and sterile and rather expensive. I also have to add that when I visited the floor of the men’s toilets were flooded with a mixture of urine and water which. This was even more disgusting as the place serves food.

I was here on Tuesday night before an event at the Oran Mor, we just popped in for a quick burger and some drinks. Have to say, I was impressed by the quality of the burgers; I opted for one with Swiss cheese and bacon, it was flavourful and worked particularly well with the burger sauce that came at the side of the dish. It was also pretty juicy and not at all dry. Every day they operate a burger + free drink promo with prices starting from £6.99, which is pretty reasonable considering we’re in the heart of the West End here. I was also impressed by the selection of drinks; there are plenty of great drams and a variety of ales to choose from. I’m a wine drinker myself and found their house white was lovely and quaffable! A great traditional pub with a wonderful and varied clientele; I actually bumped into one of my old English lecturers… :P

Great range of ales at this west end institution. A proper boozer full of everyone from students, street sweepers, MSPs, to football managers… Food is basic but hearty and cheap. Check out Tennents for a welcome break from the style bars of Byres Road and Ashton Lane

Ok this was my first ever visit and I have to say I’ll be back. Tennant’s is a west end icon of a bar across the road from Hillhead underground in the shadow of Glasgow university. The pub has the look of that classic old mans pub. Inside they have nice selection of cask ales, plenty of lagers if you are that way inclined. A good wine list and plenty of spirits. They have lots of regulars whos pictures you will see framed on the walls around the bar. They have good menu selection with specials on and plenty of choice for every type of pallet. I have to be honest and say it isn’t gourmet cuisine but it is hardly the place for that. My only problem was that it can be mobbed when there is a football match on the TV, luckily we got seats in the area round the corner and managed to miss most of the fun and games from it. Finally they have nice staff, very polite and efficient and good at getting to you in good time.

Glasgow’s got Beer I lived in Glas Vegas for 7 years and never drank here — today I rectified this issue. My drinking partners were Crag K and a friend in common who is recovering from a recent Zombie attack and is in crutches. Firstly, they have some serious beer pumpage going on, I think I counted 8 hand pumps, all with different stuff — I must admit they seemed a little dated with their range, but still some good old reliable such as Kelburn, Stewarts and some southern breweries also. A large seating area surrounds a u shaped bar against the far wall, and they have lots of TVs, good for viewing sports– The only shame being that Liverpool couldn’t beat Everton… Toilets on the same floor, so our crippled friend could crutch his sorry ass into it without need ing our support. Friendly clientele, a good glesga vibe!

A fine bar –don’t change it. Lord Kelvin, Thr great Scots scientist,(a bit Irish as well), drank here when he was Professor at the University of Glasgow in the 1890’s. One of our Scots languages. Gaidhlig, is spoken here, in the ancient Burgh of Partick. Gaelic is spoken in the West-End of Glasgow, the largest number of Gaelic speakers outwith the«Innse Gall». Ailean-Ban Mhurdaidh-Eoghainn

This place is packed on a Friday night, and rightly so. Excellent selection of cask ales, and the food menu, while standard for a Nicholson’s pub, is great. Wife had the trio of pies, which she gave high marks. The burger part of my good morning burger was mediocre, but all of the other pieces(bacon, eggs, potato) raised its overall caliber. Had a couple of pints here and enjoyed the atmosphere. It is an old man pub, but that doesn’t stop the rest of us from enjoying it.

There’s nothing I love more than an old mans pub. Now, please don’t get offended by this if you are in fact an old man or feel like an old man. Old men are great, especially the ones who wear their checkered shirt, tie and pull over to have a pint. Love it. Anyway, back to the pub! Now, I am a fan of nice surroundings and background music, especially when I’m having a wee vodka, lemonade and lime, however, I do like to hear my self think, speak to my friends in a non-shouty manner and rub shoulders with old men, as you know. Tennent’s Bar provides the lot, as well as a really big, well lit room and one million television screens. One million television screens is must for watching numerous football games at the same time; something I mastered when watching the relaxing title decider premiership games of Man City and Man Utd with my boyfriend. We were sweaty, happy and a bit bladdered along with the rest of the dancing Tennent’s punters! I have yet to sample the food here but I have stared at people eating what looked like a rather tasty, meaty burger and wished I could pick a wee bit off. I also like onion rings, which they have on the menu too. Clever Tennent’s. Staff are lovely, punters are lovely, décor is lovely, the vodka is lovely and I’m sure the onion rings are lovely.

I like this place. A lot. Being both an undergraduate and postgraduate at Glasgow Uni, I’m used to frequenting frustrating pubs packed with people called Ameira and Blaise, so Tennent’s is a welcome change… Good grub, booze and atmosphere, and it’s pretty damn cheap, too. And don’t worry about the old boys who try to chat you up. They’ll get distracted by the sport on the TV eventually. ‘Cos let’s face it, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is much easier on the eye than you’ll ever be. This is a fact. The staff are nice, the noise levels aren’t too bad and you can always find a seat. This, in my old age, is what I need in a pub. None of this ‘standing’ malarky I did as a 19 year old! God, to think what we were like back then… Now that I’ve found out just how many hours are being slashed from my work, I need a pint pretty badly… and the place I long to be is Tennent’s!

Waffle, waffle, waffle… Oooh, I’m actually quite drunk and probably in need of a good feed(ooh, that rhymed a bit) *checks pockets* Oooft, who muggerified me? Dear people of Unilocal(land), if you ever find yourself in the above situation(or a somewhat similar situation) and on the road of Byres, deep in the deep, dark dippy, hippy haven of Glasgows West End, then stop, drop and roll all the way along to Tennents. Here’s why(please don’t do the check list thing Chris… I’m doing it!!) — Cheap grub… BANG — Cheap drinks… BANG — Cheap cheapness… BANG Stop reading and go.

Tennents is where I often end up going for a pub meal when there are no tables free in Curlers and surprisingly, even when Tennents is busy, there is still often a couple of free ones here. The food is fairly inexpensive and quite tasty, despite it being a fairly run of the mill pub. All in all, Tennents attracts more of an older crowd, as it is a much more traditional-styled pub compared to the more modern and student orientated Curlers across the road. On my visits it was mostly 40+ males at that, due to the fact there was live football, which is regularly shown. It is absolutely jam packed for most footy games, even English matches — you would be surprised with the amount of Scottish folk passionately cheering on teams such as Manchester City in here. When its really busy it takes a lot of twisting and turning to get to the bar, but thankfully the bar service is quite quick. The prices are okay and there is a good selection of various old ales if that is your thing.
