So once again, this review is for the club side of the admiral rather than the bar/food(I swear I’m not out clubbing allllll the time, I do actually work and go to uni!). I’ve only been to one club night here which was Mr. Scruff at Melting Pot(for those of you who haven’t heard of him he plays notoriously long sets of eclectic and brilliantly mixed music) and they had a 4am license for Easter Sunday. I’ve heard that they are pretty selective with their bookings and you don’t often hear of special guests at the Admiral, in fact you don’t often hear of it at all compared to subby or the Art School. I get the feeling they like to keep things quite fun and funky, but they have some very long running nights like Divine and Melting Pot which are once a month, and when they do put on a party it’s pretty special! I can’t remember the drinks being outrageously expensive, the dancefloor was spacious, the toilets were clean enough, and the soundsystem was awesome! Chuck all those things together and then put me and some pals in there with Mr. Scruff and you can’t not have a good time. I think tickets were pretty pricey, about £15 which is probably about right for a 4am license in Glasgow seeing such a big act, and well worth it in the end. I’m looking forward to my next experience in the downstairs area of the Admiral!

Went out for the end of month lunch with my pals J & D. Went usually come here so this review is from more than one trip. The bogof on pizzas is great, and they don’t hold back the quality. I get the Bronson pizza whenever i go Absolute delight. Great pizza with the right amount of toppings. I have had most of the pizzas off the menu, and can say this is my favourite! J had the goats cheese pizza and she loved it, said it was the best GC pizza she’s had in Glasgow, so that’s and compliment. As always, it’s included in the bogof deal. D had the Philly cheese steak, which looked like a generous serving, and came with a substantial amount of fries and salad on the side. I ordered some salt n chilli fries for the side, which were excellent, portion was good and stacks of flavour! I recommend this for a casual lunch any time of week! Great friendly service too every time I go. All in for cost, service, quality and taste it’s excellent.

Very possibly a biased review based on the fact I am a Celtic supporter, and this seems to be a Celtic orientated pub. For this review, I was in on the night of a Celtic game, which was being shown all through the pub on a selection of screens. Despite how busy it was, with hundreds of thirsty football fans, service was quick and friendly. The toilets were also spotless, no mean feet in a footy orientated pub on a busy game night! There was a good selection of beers to be had, including Three Hop, something I’ve not seen in many places, and went down a treat. The Admiral is one of those places that might be slightly off the beaten track, and might not be a top choice for everyone, but if you want to go see some football, in a friendly, authentic atmosphere and not pay over the score for your drinks, you couldn’t go wrong here. Also, Celtic won, so that was a good thing ;)

I’m pretty lucky to work smack bang in the middle of the financial district of Glasgow, as it means I’m never short of somewhere to go if I fancy a sit down lunch with my team. The Admiral has the feel of an old man pub, with the clientele of a generally much younger work crowd but it’s always pretty busy, down in part to the sports they play and the reasonable-for-city-centre prices. Even though we hadn’t booked, we were able to get a table with no waiting time — despite a particularly busy lunchtime — and quickly ordered our food. Given that we were eating over a work lunch time, it’s pretty important to get the food quickly to make sure we weren’t running late for getting back to work. I opted for the baked potato with chilli, cheese and sour cream. It came with a side salad and for £5.50 it was a really substantial portion. I can’t eat food which is too spicy but the chilli was just on the right level of heat for me, yet the potato under was a bit hard until I managed to mash it up a little bit — I always wonder why they don’t do that before serving, maybe it’s just me… My lunch was tasty enough, the staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food comes out reasonably quickly. It’s fairly standard pub-grub and I’ll definitely be back for lunch, I just don’t think it’d be my first choice — not when I have so many other options close by.

I was here for a leaving party, I wasn’t here very long — it was ok I felt the staff were hovering over us constantly to clear the table which made me feel uneasy like I couldn’t relax — i’ve heard they do a good steak pie so I will pop in again :)

Fantastic booze selection and stunning food! Try the haggis pizza or pulled pork. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere with live music makes the Admiral a good choice for eats and bevvy.

Great first impression when I seen my favourite drink, Strawberry and Lime Rokerderlig! Less impressed when it came to paying for it. but alas. it wasn’t overly expensive to be fair. Went for a private function downstairs where the website assured me that if it’s good enough for LCD Soundsystem, it’s good enough for me. I would agree. Excellent buffet which suggests a good menu ordinarily, where veggies are well catered for. Good selection of drinks at the bar as well including on tap. Good location as well with no hassle kicking off in any nearby pubs or clubs, but still centrally located. Been assured there’s a good quiz on Tuesdays, which is right up my street. Will be checking it out!

Some good meal deals to be had(2 x pizza + 2 x drinks = £10 on a Tuesday). Amstel Beer, Stella and San Miguel on tap, although the general beer prices seem to be 20p-30p more than elsewhere in the area. It has 6 person booths at the back of the pub with individual tv’s so you can watch a variety of sports channels(sound is muted). Overall a good pub for a night out.

In here on April 3rd as part of the Hinterland festival. Always amazes me the number of pubs in Glasgow that have made excellent use of their extra cellar space or original function rooms by kitting them out as good music venues. The acoustics here were ideal and the viewing angles good from most of the spectator space.

The Admiral has gained a reputation over the past couple of years for hosting hip club nights and some slightly more obscure touring and local bands. «YEAH, MAN! The ADMIRALISAMAZING!» It really isn’t that great. It’s okay. Upstairs is basically just an old boys pub. It has a great atmosphere if you want to come and watch a Scotland match. The long and narrowish entrance to the larger back area can become packed with people ends up becomming a bit of a nuisance too be honest. There’s nothing dreadful about it but put it this way, The Admiral is the closest pub for me to walk to and I usually give it a miss.

The Admiral appears to be just your average old man pub, with wooden flooring, bar stools and old fashioned booths for drinking away the evening with some old chums. The prices are reasonable and it’s quite a cosy, comfortable pub for a quiet pint. Downstairs is quite a different story, with a dark and dingy atmosphere, illuminated by a projector splashing images onto the wall. Various club nights run here over the months, including its most famous monthly event: Melting Pot, which is a mish mash of funk, disco and house music.

While I enjoy the fact that The Admiral is a little distanced from the usual raucous of Sauchiehall Street on a Saturday night, my experience there was legitimately sub-par. Firstly, the low ceilings and use of smoke machines, paired with sweaty, off-their-face clubbers is a recipe for disaster. Drinks are more expensive than a number of night clubs, which explains the ease with which you can make it to the beer-soaked bar, but not the level of drunkennes contained within the place. Since dance and trance is not my thing, I can’t judge based solely on my own tastes; however, even by its own standards, the DJ was pretty terrible. It’s all about the crescendo, right? But it seemed even he was far too smashed to realise he was keeping everyone hanging. The lack of a coat check is also a pain, as you have to choose between leaving your bag somewhere and hoping it’ll be there when you return, or awkwardly swaying with it tightly strapped to your sides. All in all the key to success here seems to be getting out of your senses and saying, eff it. For anyone looking for room to breathe, atmosphere and decent tunes, however, The Admiral is not a winner.

A friendly, unpretentious pub located in the city centre. It’s busy at lunchtime as there are a lot offices located close by, and they offer a very varied menu. The burgers are especially good. It is also busy in the evenings and hosts some club nights downstairs. The music played in the main area is quite alternative, which I like. I don’t get to the Admiral as much as I should — it’s well worth a visit.

Great bar in the city centre with lovely food which is reasonably priced with 2 for 1 offers on pizza being a good deal. Has a quiz night on a Tuesday which is fun and is a good place to watch football as it has individual TVs in the booths at the back of the bar. There is nice function form downstairs which can be hired out and is also where some club nights are held.
