The Bowery

The Bowery was pretty quiet for a Thursday night and they didn’t have much choice of draft beers. They did make up for it with super-​friendly staff and good — if slightly pricey — food. Note: the batter they use has nuts in it, so it’s worth an allergy check.

I loved the sound of the Bowery, it sounded like such an awesome new opening on Queen Street. However, I was a twinge disappointed when I visited. Why? Because this place is part fancy cocktail bar, part football bar.
I’m not saying that I didn’t like this place, I actually really did. It was a nice place to catch up with a friend over some food and chat for a few hours. It’s a very modern/​upmarket place, but as I said in the intro, there’s TVs around the place showing football. I think without the TVs I would really love this place, but I’m not into football at all. It was a Tuesday afternoon so I don’t even know what game they were showing, but some people were watching it, so obviously that has some appeal.
I had a virgin mojito which was lovely (if I’d been driving I would have had the non-​virgin one, obviously!) and a couple of small dishes instead of a main. The squid starter was lovely, a generous portion and perfectly cooked. I also got a side of mac cheese which was deliciously cheesy and actually really big for a side. I didn’t complain, obviously.
Service was really good while we were there — the staff looking after our table were super friendly and chatty without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable and the place had a good vibe. I would definitely go back here to try it out again as I did really like it, and perhaps sitting in the restaurant area away from the TVs would be a bit more pleasant. Otherwise it was really nice.

Kris and I popped in on our way to Ichiban for a drink (or two, heehee!) and were pleasantly surprised on trying the Bowery. The sleek and stylish interior matches the clean-​cut look on the exterior, making the Bowery stand out against the lovably scruffy look that Queen St seems to have (that is a compliment btw!)
The drinks menu is extensive; they have a nice range of beers and wines and some tasty-​sounding cocktails too. The atmosphere was quiet and serene when we visited, which gives me the impression that this would make a great venue for a post-​shopping lunch/​cocktail date with friends. Lovely!

Visited here for a few drinks on a 2^nd date this week. I can truly say it was a great experience and that wasn’t just because of the lovely company! Haha!
The lady who served us was lovely and chatty and made us feel right at home. It was as if we were regulars already! The bar manager was also a trained mixologist and made us some great cocktails! He made me one from a competition he’d been in. It was so good I had two. They have a great selection of different beers such as West’s St Mungo and Heverlee too.
So, overall, I’d really recommend this bar for a nice relaxing time with a great selection of drinks and brilliant and knowledgeable staff.

A welcome addition to the bottom end of Queen St! Went in here for some drinks and dinner with a good friend to have a catch up on Tuesday night which was only their second day open. The interior is really really nice and the whole place had a cool funky laidback feel in my opinion.
The staff were great and ok it was pretty quiet so they had the time to look after us but we were made to feel really welcome and well looked which I loved. The food was nice — the burger and chips that my friend had were well yummy and my chicken and rice noodle salad billed as a healthy option was fresh and tasty. There was 50% off the bill at the end due to it being their opening week which made it really very good value for money and a nice way to start building a customer base :-) (thanks Leanne R foR the tip!)
Bottles of wine started from £14.95 which is good value and the cocktail menu (which was still being put together) looked like it was going to be pretty awesome. I will definitely be back to try them and some more food really soon.
