So Tomas and I, now being well into our princess square restaurant venture, decided to finally try the restaurant bar & grill. Well I say decided, basically I’d being going on about this place for months and Tomas finally and reluctantly decided to accompany me. We headed into the enormous and surprisingly empty restaurant and were immediately greeted by a rather tall and handsome European waiter who gave us the choice of being seated either in the bar area or main restaurant. We stupidly decided to sit in the bar area, decision that I would come to regret as soon as we sat down in the extremely low and sagging chairs at the impractically high and round table. Well this simply would not have been practical, so I signalled over the attractive waiter and requested, if not begged that we be moved through to the main restaurant area. He politely obliged and off we went, however not before Tomas made a joke at my expense — he sighed and said ‘the reason he wants to move is because he’s a midget and can’t reach the table’. Our waiter was of course in stitches at the comment and he and Tomas shared a moment, a bond, a brotherhood greater than my friendship to him; I cried on the inside. Anyway we sat our asses down in the main restaurant area at some regulation size tables — built for midgets, and were then graced with another, more oriental looking waitress who I believed to be Chinese who took our drinks orders and long, long after our food orders. I opted for the crispy duck, served with honey roast apples along with a side of house cut chips(pictured), and Tomas, the slow cooked free range pulled pork, served on a brioche bun with house cut chips(pictured). While we waited a board of bread and dipping olive oil was placed on our table — this was lovely however some maple butter would have made it all the more delicious. So after ‘filling up’ on bread our plates finally arrived and I was more than happy with the presentation of mine, one could almost mistake the honey roast apples for roast potato’s. The duck meat tender but not mushy, the perfect consistency balance of delicate meat encased in the most delicious crispy, glazed skin. The honey roast apples were also a fantastic choice. not to hard yet not to soft, smothered in some of the best sauce I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing! The sauce if nothing else deserves five stars! Though I’m sad to say that Tomas, The unofficial Wing King and Pulled Pork Prince of the mid west, did not approve of the pulled pork, which I regret to say was very vinegary! In Conclusion though the restaurant bar & grill is honestly one of my new favourites and I shall return.

We were in before 5 and managed to partake on the special menu which I have to say was superb. The duck salad just set me up nicely for the second course of steak and fries. The steak was cooked to perfection — my only negative comment was that there was no offers of a side of vegetables(I’m nit picking really). The staff were attentive. I’ll definitely return.

After a little confusion over which restaurant in princess square we were eating Easter Sunday lunch at. The Restaurant bar and grill is in fact it’s actual name! Firstly it is huge inside and the décor is very nice and relaxed but not too relaxed. It was pretty empty when we arrived but was pretty full by the time we left. As it was Easter Sunday we were opting for roast dinners all around. £25 for 2 for a full roast with all the trimmings. I had the lamb which was delicious and cooked perfect. I normally would always go beef but time for a change and my goodness it was for the best. Served up with little roast potatoes and some veg. Washed down with some lovely red wine! The service was outstanding. a group of 10 people including kids and the staff were so good every little detail was covered. Excellent and a must for a lamb roast!

Back again and this time it easily gets its 5th star. Do not be put off by the name or location. The food is fantastic and the service during our visit yesterday was faultless. We were in for a family lunch and were treated really well. The staff were very attentive and every tiny detail was looked after. The food was delicious. You get a roast to share for 25 quid. We had lamb with sauce, roast tatties, vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding. The portion size was massive and we left absolutely stuffed! This place is aiming to be a bit upmarket and swanky and for me it does a good job, but at the same time remains welcoming and friendly. Great food, nice location, top class service. If you ain’t tried it yet. Why not?!!

Stumbled upon this place, and so happy we did. The staff were lovely and on their recommendation we ordered the cote de boeuf(steak dry aged for 35 days) superb! And the char grilled broccoli with chilli and garlic was delicious.

I am definitely guilty of judging this restaurant on its name, and for that reason I’d never been before. I figured that dull name = dull food, but I was definitely wrong. It’s located towards the top of Princes Square and is absolutely huge when you get inside — there’s a bar area and a massive restaurant, as well as a private dining space. And not forgetting the terrace which seems like the most popular space on a sunny day. We had a drink at the bar and then moved to sit in the restaurant which was empty — but it felt like being in an exclusive private dining rather than weird, which was nice. The back of the restaurant looks over the courtyard behind Princes Square. I opted for the 2 course quick lunch which is £15. While the rest of the menu sounded quite tasty, I couldn’t resist the chargrilled asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise, followed by the baked goats cheese and beetroot salad with walnuts. Both these dishes were exceptional and I was really pleased with just how good they were, especially on a quick lunch menu. The asparagus was delicious(although I always love asparagus) and had just the right amount of hollandaise. While you can’t see it in the photo, there was a massive portion of goats cheese — I was in total heaven. I felt a bit virtuous for ordering a salad but I’m not sure that counts when most of it is cheese. That being said, the leaves of the salad were delicious and I managed to finish off the whole plate. Service was friendly and helpful, and there was a decent choice of drinks. While it was pretty quiet when we were there(Thursday lunch + sunshine), I’d been keen to head back for Friday night drinks. They even have their own sneaky express entrance from the rear entry to Princes Square!

The Restaurant Bar and Grill has been a long time favourite of mine right from the days when it was a Terrance Conran restaurant called Zinc. I was surprised by the mixed reviews that the restaurant has received over the years and all I can say is that I have found it consistently good. There are many things that I like about the restaurant and perhaps they can be best summed up by the single word variety. The restaurant is extremely large though it never feels impersonal and it can be divided into 4 principal areas, the ever popular balcony over looking the shops and other restaurants in Princes Square, the bar and lounge which provides a much more informal relaxed area to drink and eat and then of course there is formal dining area at the back of the restaurant with its views out over the buildings at the rear of Princes Square, finally between the formal restaurant and the lounge there is a private dining area and unlike so many private dining rooms which are hidden away this one is in full view with glass walls. As for the food the menu is extensive and varied offering everything from a simple snack to a full three course meal. My own personal favourite is the king prawn tempura with chilli jam, the oysters are excellent too and they make a mean dry martini! Finally, of course there are the staff who always give a great level of service, always there but never intrusive. Yes it’s not the cheapest place to eat in town but it’s not the most expensive either and it is consistently excellent value and the Club Individual loyalty scheme is a real plus and very worthwhile joining! All in all you will have guessed that I am a fan and while I write few reviews I was prompted to write this one in an effort to restore the balance as well as by way of a thank you to the staff who allowed me to take a series of pictures at the pass for use in the kick-off meeting of Unilocal’s Glasgow Gallery and a couple of examples of which I have posted here.

This is a great venue for after work drinks or a meal. The décor is simple but classy, service is always great, and the food is pretty nice too. I’ve been a few times, and have found they’ve catered well for vegan me, and everyone else has always enjoyed the food too. There’s a nice atmosphere, and it’s so handy too, being smack bang in the middle of town.

Just eaten here with an itison voucher — fantastic. Gorgeously thin and tender(and lots of it!) steak with lovely wilted spinach and creamy mash, and a delicious peppercorn sauce. Great service, lovely surroundings and seriously good food — I will return with bated breath. Yummmmmmmm.

I went through for a wee Christmas Shopping trip to Glasgow with my mum, Aunties and my older sister. After wandering around John Lewis and Buchannan Galleries for a few hours we all started to feel peckish. We decided to head to Princes Square as they have a good choice of places to eat and it is a lovely centre! My sister had been to the restaurant bar and grill before so we ended up choosing it! The menu is extensive, and they do 2 course lunch for £15. When we first arrived the man who greeted us was very welcoming and quickly got a table big enough for us. But we were left sitting for quite a while before our order was taken. I only had one course, but the starters the rest of my family ordered did take quite a while to come out I must say. And the young girl that was taking our order was actually a little rude, seemed very taken shocked that one of us wasn’t having a drink, ‘not EVEN a glass of water?’ No, thank you… to which her response was– alright then. Not what we were expecting at all! The food was good, I thought my portion of smoked haddock risotto with poached egg was a little small for the price I paid. We finished our meal, got our bill, and first I was shocked that they add on a 10% service charge. Places that do that infuriate me… especially when I started inspecting the bill to discover it was not even right?! They had tried to charge us £168 instead of £115?! When I went back over to point out this was not right they barely even apologised! How can you even get it that wrong?! Not what I was expecting from somewhere that looks like a good establishment. All round I won’t be in a rush to go back.

A bit pricey but the brilliant staff more than make up for it. Very child friendly too.
