First time here and I have to say it’s a pretty enjoyable place to grab a drink. Ordered a double gin and tonic and I can’t complain. They have karaōke going and sports on the tv. A little bit of something for everyone. The crowd appears to be a bit older, but I dig that vibe. Dogs are allowed, yay. But beware they don’t take credit or debit, cash only.

Another successful night in the thornwood bar. The staff are very friendly and very relaxed which is perfect for a wee local. And its not just the staff as the punters are exactly the same seems that everyone likes to interact with everyone. Sat in there after the twang gig and got absolutely scooshed. Perfect, love the thornwood been going there for years and you always get a great welcome

To be brutally honest, the Thornwood is really just the stereotypical old man pub. So much so that any time I would walk in, I would get bewildered stares from every gentleman lined up at the bar enjoying their wee half. It is a very old-fashioned pub, with ancient-looking though not unpleasant décor and furniture. The prices are fairly cheap and there is a good jukebox, which has plenty classic rock, which is really my thing. There is a large screen and a smaller one which regularly show every kind of live football available — even ‘Masters’ 5-a-sides or Argentinian league soccer. Although very quiet, the place gets much busier and rowdier at weekends or on karaōke nights and attracts some of the younger age group in. However, a lot of them seem like quite volatile and aggressive characters, who get absolutely drunk out of their face by 9pm. During the day when it’s quieter, the landlords’ two dogs, who are often also joined by a third canine friend, like to mingle with the punters and are very popular. They are friendly creatures and I do happen to be a dog lover so don’t really mind, though I’m sure some people might not be keen on them sniffing around or hopping up next to them on the seats. Already unimpressed with some of the aforementioned dodgy characters that sometimes appear during the evening in the Thornwood, I wasn’t even too surprised when I learned in the news that somebody was stabbed right outside the door of the pub a few months ago. I have not been back since.
