It’s hard to avoid the most obvious part of this place, in that it’s the one home brew shop in Glasgow. That’s not to say it’s bad. The prices are reasonable and the stock is good. But all of this needs some explanation. I very recently decided to make my first batch of homebrew beer and was advised to go here rather than buy what I needed online. I admit I was nervous as brewing is a hobby where I was worried I’d get patronised as I asked my newbie brewer questions. I went with my equipment list but not knowing what to actually expect and I was extremely pleased. The woman working there was knowledgeable and helped me find the items I needed as I managed to probably misidentify what I needed. She found items in the store when the words for things are different in my book from how they sold them and also helped find substitutes for malt when they didn’t have the exact one listed in my book. I went home excited about getting started my brewing… and left my book. As inconvenient as that was, it did force me to go back. The next person I talked to there was also extremely kind and useful. She reminded me to check on the fermenting temperature of my new beer. All in all, this group knows what they’re talking about and are overall useful. The store itself is a bit cramped and seems chaotic but that’s on par with a small specialised store. It’s one of the reason I handed the clerk my list and let her look around. I’d have taken forever to find everything and probably would have missed something. I have a feeling I’ll get to know the store better over the next few months and look forward to getting to know the store better as I get some brewing experience.
