Tuscan Square is in a beautiful location, Merchant city, with all those old horrendously gorgeous buildings that were built back when time was taken over the quality of every single huge brick, and artists were employed to sculpt cherubs and strange looking little men to be set along the roof. I came to Tuscan Square for dinner once, it was the choice of my mum who likes things with quite a bit of class, which is probably why we ended up in merchant city above all others. The restaurant was to impress, the interior was just right with a modern/classic ensemble of soft caramel coloured fittings, with the centrepiece of a delicate spiral staircase. Priding themselves for their natural and sustainable sourcing of produce, I would definitely go here again. In fact I have a table booked, the only problem will be trying to choose something new because the onion tartlet was bellissimo.

Set in the Italian quarter of Glasgow’s Merchant City, our choice to come here was more out of convenience and proximity than anything else. It was my(second) graduation day, it was wet and we didn’t have much time before the ceremony. In search of a warm drink and a snack to stop my tummy grumbling during the ceremony, m parents and I came across Tuscan Square which advertised some coffee deals on the board outside — whew! Much more geared towards its function as a restaurant than a café, this place is beautiful inside. With its light furniture and décor, it’s bright and stylish. The downstairs was packed and so we were taken up the lovely spiral staircase to an area which was set for meals but subtly rearranged for our purpose. We each had a hot drink(tea for me) and a muffin or cake(a scrumptious brownie for me). They had a deal on for coffee and a cake for £3 — not bad at all given the surroundings. The girl who served us was so friendly yet professional — asking what our plans were for the day — and providing a very efficient service. A more upmarket alternative to those chain cafes we all frequent.

My recent visit to the Tuscan Square Restaurant in Glasgow’s stylish Italian quarter of the Merchant City was for a job interview. So, despite having my dinner paid for, I did not fully appreciate the experience due to sweaty palms, fear of knocking over my water glass and the constant delusion that my pasta sauce was dribbling down my chin. That being said, on reflection, I decided that I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and I’ll definitely be returning. The mediterranean influenced menu offered a good selection of dishes and my meal was tasty. Decorated in light neutral tones with a sneaky glass terrace out the back, the restaurant would suit a romantic dinner for two or a meal for a larger group. The staff were courteous, friendly and well trained. Thumbs up!
