I went for the special offer, of course: around £15 a head, early evening, a pre-theatre special(although there isn’t really a theatre nearby, and the restaurant doesn’t restrict the offer to pre-theatre times). I love the Urban Grill: it shares owners with Gamba, the classy fish restaurant in town, and has the same chic atmosphere. However, it has a wider range of dishes than Gamba, including plenty of pork choices, and vegetarian options. They serve gently, the atmosphere is cool and relaxed, the food delicious and the music– it’s jazz. This is very untypical for Shawlands, and all the more welcome for it.

A surprising place to find in Shawlands, The Urban Grill has jazz music in the background, fancy food and wines, and a lack of the neds with money that have a horrible habit of popping up in such venues. It wouldn’t look out of place in The West End, and even has a live piano player at weekends. Can’t fault it.

This restaurant is great if you like good food and live jazz musicians playing while you eat. The restaurant is cosy, comfortable and atmospheric. The staff are very welcoming and professional. There is a good selection of dishes on the menu which are reasonably priced. This place is not for the impatient as our meals took a little longer to appear than we would have liked. However, the food was delicious and worth the wait. All in all, a lovely restaurant to chill out in as long as you are not in a hurry.
