Friday night dinner/drinks. Great location by the river, cute interior and plenty of outdoor seating. Varied menu, we got burgers which were pretty big. Little on the salty side but ok. Service was a little slow, but friendly enough. Have to say it was much better a year ago. Would still pop back on a sunny day.

Great little pub to chill. Love the interior and exterior of this traditional pub. Drinks and menu list are good and service is excellent. Will definitely pay a visit soon.

One of the nicest pubs in the area. Right by the water, working fireplaces, people with their dogs on weekends, and decent food. the only bummer is that it’s a brewery owned pub so the beer selection is limited to the same old mediocre stuff.

What’s not to like? Good food, very cozy surroundings with multiple fireplaces, and a friendly staff. This pubs isn’t quite on the river… but it doesn’t need to be. Just stepping inside makes you feel like you’re at a lodge in the countryside. The food prices reflect the property prices this close to the river, offering pub food at traditional restaurant prices, but I’ll forgive them that. The place has an old style indoor Skittles court at the back!

Back in West London on business after 4 years away. Miss the pubs along the Thames, especially BL. Great beer garden, great selection of ales, and perfect spot for lunch to reminisce over a pint of Pride.

I have been going to ‘The Black Lion’ for a number of years — mostly because a friend of mine likes being able to take her small dogs inside this pet friendly pub. When it is warm & sunny it is nice to sit outside and enjoy the view of the River Thames. The staff are generally relaxed and friendly and it makes for a nice atmosphere. Some years back they had a lovely young lady from the North of England working there and she was ALWAYS busy as the male punters made a beeline for her. More recently an acquaintance of mine on his first visit asked why the majority of staff, both male & female, seemed to be gay. I tend to focus on the straight females so I can’t say I had ever thought about it! However, this pub is open & welcoming to EVERYBODY, which is a good thing. The usual bottled beers and a couple of nice ales on tap are what I usually drink. A Frenchman who joined me here for a meal said the wine list was«adequate», which is a complement considering his typical stance on wine lists in Britain! The food is a hit & miss affair. The Beef Burger & Chips at just under a tenner is better than ‘Gourmet Burger Kitchen’ to my tastes. I once had a lousy Steak — dry and flavourless. The Fish & Chips have always been a solid choice. Lighter choices like Soup or Sandwiches vary but are mostly fine. Prices are more in line with the posher Chiswick pubs than with Hammersmith ones. I came here for a late Sunday Lunch during a hot summer but all the Lamb was gone and I had to settle for the Pork. It was overly sweet(there were wasps flying around it INDOORS) and the vegetables were lousy. I asked for more gravy and when it seemed I could not get any I figured it was because it was all pre-done plates. That is not good for a £17 Sunday Roast by any standards. A group of us had our Christmas Day Lunch here for 2009 and while the atmosphere was jovial the staff seemed ill prepared for the amount of X-Mas bookings and were slow in bringing the courses out each time. We got there about 12:30pm hoping to catch the Queen’s speech at 3 O’ Clock but did not finish desert until well after 4! The food was pretty good that festive day but some of the others in our party found the Veal was really tough. Despite mine being excellent I tried someone elses and it was WAY too tough despite being from the same joint of meat? Those niggles aside it was a good celebration and we spent a lot of time blowing up those torpedo balloons the pub had provided and releasing them at other patrons :) ‘The Black Lion’ is well worth at least one visit if you are local or find yourself in that«neck of the woods». Only consistency prevents me from giving it 4 stars for food & service.

This large pub is just back from the river. For some reason my standout memory of the décor is that it had very large tables, so we’ll just go with that. It has been recently refurbished to be lighter and more contemporary, whatever that might mean! Decent enough beer selection for your consideration.

Really lovely pub. Many sunny afternoons spent with my boyfriend, user in hand :) Food is also really good — burgers are worth trying, Inside isn’t as big as you would hope, bit they have big leather arm chairs in the corner Whig you can sink into. excited fir the sun to come back and to spend some afternoons there when the bf is on holiday.

Great pub. Best time i have been here was last summer with my girlfriend. Sitting outside, table service for the food which for a pub is rare. Really quirky waiter, great selection of wines. Has a lot of history this pub which you can read when you visit.

Nice pub very close to the Thames on the border between Hammersmith and Chiswick. It’s a good place to stop if you’re walking along the river: it seems less crowded than pubs that are right along the path(it’s behind an old waterworks wall, about 20, back from the Thames). Especially nice to stop at on a sunny day, as their garden has several dozen tables. You might find, as I did on a recent Sunday afternoon, a bbq grilling at one side. The pub is quite nice inside with several old nooks and tidy, though not overly modern, furnishings and decorations. Very dog-friendly inside. A few well-kept Cask Marque ales, including Doom Bar when I was here. We didn’t eat, though lots of others were. They’ve got free WLAN: bring your laptop.

It seems that things are on the up at The Black Lion. Having been here a few times of the years I was never impressed with what was on offer, even though it is a nice pub looks wise with a nice garden and a good location on the River. Enter the new management team and all is o.k. They have taken hold of the pub and are using it to its full potential. Add a splattering of service and up the any on the food and you have a sure fire winner. From the cold wine and beers to the clean bar and welcoming restaurant everything seems in order. I will certainly be popping back to see if standards are maintained — assuming they are, a loyal local based clientele will surely follow and then the summer crowds will be the bonus that the new team deserve.

Cracking pub, set just away from the river Thames. Massive beer garden, good selection of ales and brilliant food. Although it has had a refurb, the pub has lost none of it’s character and the locals(God, some of the houses are fantastic) are very friendly. Not the easiest pub to access, but if you are taking a riverside stroll along the thames, this place is well worth a visit.

We had a really enjoyable time here last weekend, despite the typical British summer ! We had the roast dinners which were nearly as good as my mums and the table service was such a welcome relief from having to queue up at the bar. Very friendly staff and well kept beer means we’ll be back. They had the BBQ fired up too, but Sundays for me are about the roast !

A terrific pub. If you find noisy braying ozzies a turn-off then walk the 30 metres from The Ship to the Black Lion. The building itself is fascinating: used to be a pig farmhouse, then a blacksmith and is now haunted. ooer. The outside«garden» is pleasant but they need to try harder; but that’s part of the charm of the pub. They do some great barbecues during the summer. The single greatest thing however are the drinks. This is the best pint of Deuchers I can find. There’s also pride and couple of guest beers. Inside is a series of pews and snugs which make a great place to have an intimate chat. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed, with a brilliant mix of well heeled locals, old geezers, and people passing along the riverside walk who fancy a drink. The new terrace is also terrific for watching the range of joggers who run the river From very foxy lycra clad godesses through to sweaty fat hairy men. A nice and proper drinker.
