A great little pub to come to along the Thames. There are only a few pubs along the Hammersmith section of the river and this is one of them, sitting directly next to the Blue Anchor. This means that seating is very limited as the benches for the two pubs mingle together, especially in peak periods. I would usually describe peak as Thursdays and Fridays after work, however I have been there on a few sunny Mondays after the office and it is just as busy as a Friday! I have never eaten here, just come for a refreshing cider. The staff were furbished with and inside looked nice, although a little dated which you woukd expect from an older pub.

This is a decent pub by the river. Just loses a bit for me as the restriction to just Youngs beers is much more noticeable when you are next door to a pub that carries a more interesting selection. Doesn’t seem to be my round when I come here, so I’ve only been inside once a couple of years ago! That is how much it is about the river!

Easily the least impressive of all the local riverfront pubs. The fact that it’s part of the Taylor-Walker chain certainly doesn’t help, as that group seems to be making a concerned effort to make what were already generic, soul-less pubs even more generic and soul-less. That’s not to say it’s a bad pub. It has far more outdoor seating than either the Blue Anchor next door or The Dove down the street, but the beer selection is disappointing(standard Diageo and a couple of unexciting cask ales). On the plus side, they do often have BBQ’s on the weekend. Worth a visit only if you can’t get a seat at the Blue Anchor, or if you’re here for the reasonable £5 lunch menu.

Went here during the oxford vs cambridge boat race and its definately my pick of them all. The only problem is of course being a busy day its hard to get somewhere to sit outside unless you are there hours in advance. I should however commend them on their organisation during this event as they had the numbers going through and being served at impressive pace. I have been here on another occasion for a friend’s birthday drinks and was lucky enough to get a table outside — much better atmosphere.

The pub isn’t that great but it’s the location and proximity to the river that sell it. Good weather, chilling by the river with a cider is definitely recommended here. 10 min walk from the station, lovely place to take someone who hasn’t been to london before as you are seconds from Hammersmith Bridge.

Ahoy! The Rutland Arms is situated in a very, very pretty part of London just on the bank of the river Thames, near Hammersmith bridge. A good pub to go to on hot summer days with all the space they have outside to lounge about in and bask in the rays with a chilled pint of your preferred tipple. The tables and benches are always hard to obtain but I always like to sit myself on the wall — that is supposed to stop you falling in to the river — or just neatly congregating on the ground in your group(or pair or even alone if you so wish) with the majority of the other punters and as I mentioned, there is ample room for many. The inside of the pub is pleasant but quite standard. It’s not lavish or extravagant but«traditional», which is absolutely fine. They do provide food here but I personally have never stopped to eat. The menu, I gather, is also of the«traditional» vein but I couldn’t speculate on quality or variety. As for the bar, it’s quite full of drinks choices. They have a wine list(2 roses, 5 – 6 whites, 5 – 6 reds and some sparkly stuff) a number of beer taps(can’t remember what exactly but I can confidently say you’ll find something appeasing) and a healthy set of spirits(whiskeys, gins, vodkas etc. etc,). The toilets are clean but have measly powered hand dryers(barely blowing cold air!). To sum up, a great place to spend a sunny afternoon but apart from those occasions it’s quite ordinary. Certainly not bad but no reason to make a special trip, yours’, Ian

Refurbished last year, The Rutland is a nice pub very close to Hammersmith bridge on the north side of the river. With the usual selection of drinks and bar snacks it’s a nice place to have a drink on a warm evening, whilst watching the sun set over the Thames. That said, there are nicer places the further from the bridge you go along the towpath.

One of the places to be when the boat race is on, this stretch of river is large enough to take the crowds(just) so se one of the must see events on the U.K. sporting /social calendar. Pub wise it is o.k., I go there occasionally in the winter and quite often in the summer, as the setting is so good and during the summer months it is always has a fun and lively atmosphere. A great place to be in the summer to take in the rays over a few to many beers. It is trying to do food and is always busy on that front but I have never seen it excel itself in that department, so don’t plan a walk along the river and expect to be well feed when you get here. On my last visit the place looked a bit tired but I guess with a captive audience it could be falling down and it would still get used. Tables outside get taken early, so get there early or take your chances sitting on the wall by the river. All in all a young and fun place to be in the summer, I wouldn’t recommend the food, if you are up for a beer and a laugh then it will suit you down to the ground.

The Rutland is one of a few pubs along the Thames at Hammersmith. Generally I like them all because the setting is pretty swell, particularly on a summer’s evening. You can sit outside and watch the sun set over the river, kick back and relax as cars bumble over Hammersmith Bridge and ponder over floating traffic on the river itself as you sip on a lovely cold bevy. On nice days it does get fairly manic though as it’s one of the pubs closest to the tube and the main road and tends to collect all the convenience river revellers, so it can be a bit too busy and it’s often worth strolling a bit further down to a quieter pub. As great as it is sitting outside the pub, I don’t really like being inside the Rutland as it has rowing boats suspended above the bar, and anyone who has read my review of the Natural History Museum will know I don’t like things that are supposed to be kept in water suspended above my head. It creeps me right out.
