Perfect pub on the Hammersmith waterfront with great views of the Thames. This place gets extremely busy after work hours during the week and on any mildly sunny day on the weekend, but it’s definitely worth it to try get there early and snag one of the shared outdoor picnic tables. They have all your standard pub fare but everything I have tried has been pretty tasty, I especially recommend the mussels and the tomato mozzarella baguette. Decently priced pints and a cozy British atmosphere right on the water what more could you want?

I would only really come here for the view by the river. I’ve been here twice for a cider in the sun and is been fine. Always very busy outside on the picnic tables, but inside has always been empty when I have been there, suggesting it’s popular for its location in the Thames. I went in here with a large group from work last week for lunch and the service was pretty shocking. I was missed of the original drinks order and we weren’t serviced again for another half an hour, when a table behind us was. I will leave this down to a one-off and give them the benefit of the doubt. I had the tortelloni selection which was tasty. Friends had the fish & chips which they said was good but a little too greasy. I would recommend coming here for a cost by the river, but seats get filled up quickly after 5pm.

This is a very good place to visit for a drink when the sun is out! Located on the river next to Hammersmith bridge, and a short walk from Hammersmith station, it’s worth a visit if it’s warm(and dry!) enough to have your drink outside on the river front.

I’m not sure why Blue Anchor doesn’t have a strong presence on Unilocal, for several reasons: — It was just featured in JK Rowling, er, Robert Gilbraith’s ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling.’ Read it again if you missed it! — It’s right on the river, with tons of seating, picnic benches, tall tables, and a dining room upstairs. — It’s historic and charming inside, featuring old sailing/rowing regalia, and giving it a true nautical feel. Fitting, given you can throw a stone from the bar to the Thames. I had a lovely date of the highest British quality: sausages and mash, fish and chips for the date, and two pints of pull-draught local beer. It was swelteringly warm, during the height of the heat wave we had a few weeks back, but still blissful. I was harkened back to my first ‘pub’ experiences in the US, which made me fall in love with England and end up moving here. That’s what kind of pub the Blue Anchor is: quintessential.

A special place which has been in business since 1722. I’m partial to any pubs which are at least 54 years older than my country is. I’m willing to look past the friendly yet incompetent Aussie bartenders just because this simply isn’t a place you come when you’re in a hurry. Relax and enjoy the view. My other complaint is that buffalo wings should be fried, not baked, but they’re still pretty good and at least they’re healthier this way. Plus it’s not like many other places in London(or anywhere in Europe for that matter) know how to make proper buffalo wings.

Great little old fashioned pub, with unique features, including a lovely copper bar top by the window, lots of dark wood and a great location; sat right next to the river. Really lovely, homely, but a bit cobwebby(which I quite like as I adore old buildings). The food is amazing, I had the Parma ham and fig salad, and my friend the nachos, and the meals were completely faultless fresh, tasty, quality ingredients, large portions perfect. However beware! They sometimes close the kitchen, so you cannot always order food. So please call ahead, or check out the website if you want to eat. I really adore this place for location, food and atmosphere, but have to give it a low rating as the glasses as disgusting. I think their dishwasher really needs replacing as these aren’t that clean at all it’s just a shame and they don’t seem to care about this at all.

Nice pub to have a pint by the river. They have not too typical beers and the food looks quite ok(I will have to taste it!). They have a couple of tables outside that are really nice if the day is sunny and people makes the most of it as it’s always full.

This pub serves better beer than its neighbour. 4 interesting ales of quality, to be precise. Bit small inside. I’ve only been when it has been warm enough to hang outside by the river though. My favourite pub round Hammersmith. Has been around for almost 300 years, which is pretty good going.

This is a very cute pub with an amazing view of the Thames and Hammersmith bridge. You can either relax and have a pint at a picnic tables out front. Or for a more formal setting(and better view of the river), you can head upstairs and sit at a proper table. Definitely a place to visit while in Hammersmith.

A riverside location with plenty of outdoor seating, good selection of ales, mediocre food(sorry), comfortable and attractive interior: this pub definitely has lots of appeal especially if it’s a warm sunny day. However, just keep in mind such a winning combo comes with a price and you might feel you paid slightly more than you expected for those few drinks with the stunning view of the Thames.

Hungover and in desperate need of a lovely-publy Sunday lunch, and fresh air, me and my Northern chum stumbled from my flat and down by the river in search of something to soothe our aching heads. A quick search on Unilocal and I came across the Blue Anchor. Two minutes from the flat? Full roast with veggie option? Sold! When we got to the pub at 12.20, we propped ourselves up at the bar — ordered two orange juices and tried to place a food order. «You can’t order until 12.30.» «Oh, only it’s 12.23… I mean…» «Yeah, no, you can’t order ’til 12.30». Needlessly anal and unfriendly — but hey, I didn’t have the where with all to care. We waited 7 minutes in the quiet, middle class, slightly staid atmosphere — pondering whether £6 for two oranges, and £10 for a pub lunch was worth it — but we were there and we weren’t moving. When the food arrived, very quickly, it was delicious — utterly superb. Don’t know that I’d go back, having sampled the ONE vegetarian option(yup, surprisingly veggies like variety too!), but I can imagine it’ll always have a reliably good roast. I think I’ll wait out the cold winter months at the Distillers and wait for the sun to shine before I head back, as the location is terrific.

The place is sweet. This is right on the water front and is at a wakable distance from Hammersmith Tube Station. On a nice sunny day this could be kewl place to hang out. Also check out the upstairs, you can reserve it for group events. One of the pubs manager is a Kiwi and he was very helpful. Also most of their Aussie staff were very friendly and helpful. In all this is a jammn place and I will surely be back. Their food is shit so I would not bet my life on it. I would still give it this high rating as its all about the fantastic location and the lovely staff.

This is one of the best pubs around. It has been completely refurbished but managed to retain its charme, especially since they recycled the old counter as a table by the window. My only(and major!) gripe is the beer, since this not a Fullers Pub and(shock horror) Pride is not always on tap.

There’s nothing better than a Sunday pub lunch on the river. How quintessentially London of me! I have now been a patron of both The Blue Anchor and The Rutland Arms(right next door), and I have to say, it’s six of one really. The Rutland is slightly less«put together», whereas the Anchor seems to offer a bit more of an exciting menu and drinks selection. My friends and I had a long lingering lunch here yesterday with the sun shining in the background. The Anchor claims to have the«Best Baby Back Ribs this side of the Atlantic» which felt like a challenge. They were okay. ANDHUGE. Hey, if you’re going to stuff your face with ribs, it better be on a Sunday afternoon. I agree with Robin, it’s best to eat outside at one of the picnic tables if possible, during the summer, watching a boat race.

Tucked away on the towpath by Hammersmith Bridge you will find this and another pub vying for your business. A pub for all seasons, busy in the summer with a perfect vantage point for the boat race and used by those looking for a spot to take in the sun over a few beers. Also a stop off point for those taking a walk along the river and enjoying the quieter side of London life. A distinct nautical flavour here but it does nothing to offend and is probably one of the better ones on this stretch of the Thames. It certainly looks like it is making more on an effort than the pub next door and would by my choice of the two. That said I don’t know why the pub next door seems to be busier one of the two, One thing that might answer this is the fact that it is difficult to see inside this pub and get a view before entering ? Anyway, don’t be put off, give it a try, I think that this is the one for food and try and bag one of the few available seats outside(summer).

The Blue Anchor has had a big refurb and is now super shiny new with new outdoor seating, and a change in colour scheme. A very popular spot when the sun is out, this can provide for a very busy pub, with punters sprawled all over the towpath. This isn’t too unpleasant, is, in fact, much more pleasant than the equivalent amount of people in a city pub. The river is pretty glorious on a good day. An average day makes it just a much better place than most pubs, rather than a much, much better place. Great location for boat race watching. Prices usual for the area.

A pleasant riverside pub with boats on the ceiling, an unusual pewter-topped bar counter, two or three good beers on, and plenty of room outside by the riverside towpath. And it isn’t in an Industrial Estate despite the address on this page.
