Caught a large part of the final round of The Masters golf here on Easter Sunday after an earlier quiet pint in the afternoon watching Arsenal on their way to beating Man City. Only a couple of ales on and you might have a bit of trouble making your way through the place if you’re much over 6ft but it’s comfy and well kept with quite a few screens for the sport. Live music is clearly a staple of the bar’s attraction and the band on during our later session(The Blueflies) were a cut above what I’d normally expect from a pub in terms of ability as well as being blessed with a sound that was clear enough for them to be easily heard without the need to be overpowering and make conversation impossible at the end of the pub furthest from them. Definitely a good option either in the afternoon or later at night.

Smack across from the Harrogate Conference Center and right on a busy corner is this terrific bar(actually I’d call it more a pub, but whatever…) They carry a large selection of great beers on tap and you must try the local ones from Theakstons Brewery… I loved their Best Bitter and their Old Peculier(yep — that’s the right spelling). Decent pub food(sorry… «bar» food). Excellent fish and chips(tons of french fries)… super hot chili(on top of a mound of fries) and also had a decent chicken burger — with a huge side of fries… The place gets packed right at the end of the work day with locals and visitors… diverse mixed crowd(both suits and construction workers). Some nice tables to sit outside if the weather allows it…

Christies has a good atmosphere and a nice play to go for a drink. There are two large screens which they show sport on. While in Christies they had two different champions leagues games on so a lot of people were in there — so if you want a seat you’ll need to get in there early. We never ate in there but the food smelt nice — the menu was quite reasonably priced and had a wide range of pub grub on there. Worth a visit.
