I went to Zolsha with low expectations. After all, I naively assumed that a small scenic market town in North Yorkshire was probably not an ideal location to get good Indian food. Fortunately, I was proven wrong. Visitors are greeted with a namaste by the artwork on the glass door before proceeding into the lounge; complete with bright red arm chairs and a full bar. Bright red lightning traces the outline of the ceiling, adding to an already modern, but minimalist atmosphere of grey and glass. For appetizers we ordered a popadom to split plus some mushroom pakora, paneer tikka, and a veg platter for two. The mushroom pakora was good but not particularly amazing. The paneer tikka, however, had a unique texture and taste, complete with a deep red color and smoky blackened exterior. The veg platter contained a mixture of veg pakora, samosas, and even fired aubergine; a vegetable I tend to dislike, but loved fried in the house’s spicy flour. The popadom was served with four sauces and a spicy pickle that was one of the best I have had in the UK. My girlfriend was a bit upset at the absence of a mint chutney or a more spicy alternative to to largely sweet sauces. For an entrée we shared an order of palak paneer — Indian hot — with an order of garlic naan. It was hot, but not too hot, despite the presence of whole chilies mixed in. What we took home heated up nicely the next day. Our waiter was an older gentlemen with a white beard. He was very prompt and polite and took good care of us Atmosphere — 4⁄5 Food −4÷5(because she really wanted the spicy mint chutney) Service — 5⁄5 Price — 4⁄5

Very nice interior unusual for an Indian restaurant. The food was fresh, tasty and well presented. We chose a few classic dishes like papadums, onion bahji, rogan josh, chicken makhani and the three lads in the group all agreed it was well better than average.
