Flavours of India is a gem located on a side street in the seaside town of is a cavernous place done up in tones of dark red and dark woods. When you enter you immediately see the bar and takeout area. We did take out twice so did not dine in but noticed the main dining room was spacious. The Bangladeshi Indian food here is tasty and spicy, and done right, without being overly greasy. The nan bread is a huge puffy pancake. My bf had the butter chicken and raved about it. Not being an Indian food fan, I tried it and was impressed by the way the flavors subtly melded together. He praised it so much he made a point to go back and he ordered the lb. 22.95 special for two. If you love Indian food be prepared to be amazed by all the food you will get– one of each: Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Phatia, Vegetable Bhuna, Mint Salad, Onion Salad, Bombay Potato, Nan Bread, Rice, Mixed Kebab – and also 2 papadums and 4 Onion Badjees… an Indian Feast! The basmati rice was cooked so that each long grain was separate and melted in your mouth tenderly. The potatoes were soft and creamy. The vegetables, not too mushy or hard. Everything was spiced perfectly and the affable staff gives you forks and knives(this is the UK, remember to ask for cutlery if you are doing takeout!) and the portions were not measly. We had so much leftover and my bf made sure they ended up in his stomach before we left Hastings. He couldn’t bear to toss out the uneaten food even though we had had dinner plans with friends. So the two days later, he had his Indian feast again. Even room temperature, the food was delicious. My bf remembered Flavors of India as being the terrific Indian food place by the train station he had tried years ago and it was wonderful to find that the place hadn’t changed as far as the quality of food they served. Would we go back if we were in Hastings? Most definitely!

Flavours of India is one of the best Indian restaurants that Hastings has to offer. It is a large premises and I have never needed to book in advance, even on the weekends. The staff are friendly and it has a fully stocked bar area whilst you wait for your food or to pick up your takeaway. The menu has a range of dishes from all over India with many different spice levels. Although I do not normally eat mild curries, the Tikka Masala is amazing here. Spice lovers are also covered too with the likes of Lamb Madras and the bottom burning Phal. There is a convienient car park directly opposite which is free in the evenings. Highly recommended.
