The best vanilla ice cream in Scotland. Full stop. Forget the ones in Largs or Musselburgh that usually get the plaudits. This. Is. The. Best.

ICECREAM! I grew up in this area(just down the road) and between Gallone’s in the Vale, and Dino’s in Helensburgh we were spoiled for choice when it came to authentic milk based ice cream parlours. Alas Gallone’s is in now closed so Dino’s is flying the flag! And what a great flag. I should, at this point, admit that I’ve only ever had ice cream from here, and only ever had the classic Italian milk ice cream(a 99 of course!) but ohhh what heavenly wonder it is! If you’ve never had milk ice cream it may sound odd, most ice creams these days are rich with cream, but Dino’s ice cream is just as smooth and delicious with a distinctive milk flavour borne from full fat milk. It’s perfect for a sunny day, grab a cone, wander along the promenade(sea front), or stroll out along the pier. Whilst you are walking, why not plan to keep on driving up past Faslane to Arrochar, and admire the views of the foothills of the highlands start to loom into view(turn right at Arrochar to head across to Loch Lomond and then drive back to Balloch from there). I’ve loved Dino’s for as long as I knew about it, and it was great to discover that all these years later, it’s the same recipe, the same soft, cool, deliciousness, in a cone. ICECREAM!!!

Dino’s 60s Radio Café has without a doubt the best ice cream I’ve tasted in Scotland. It’s made on the premises on the first floor, made by the owner Karl Giarchi and his family. I once tried the Irn-Bru flavour that Karl home-made a few years back and it was delicious. The sit-in café is fantastic too, great bacon rolls, coffee and a great selection of sit-in ice teams: Knickerbocker Glory, Banana Split, Peach Melba and a Tiny Tots for the kids! Definitely a place to visit if your visiting Helensburgh and want to taste some quality ice cream!

Great coffee here one of the best I’ve had. I always pop into this family run café when I’m in the area they have the best coffee in town, they specialise in soup, sandwiches, paninis, and Italian ice cream.

A quaint old fashioned ice cream parlour that adds a touch of authenticity to your trip to the good old British seaside.

I absolutely flubbin’ love Dino’s. It has not changed in twenty years, but I wouldn’t want it to! With its leather booths, plastic coated tables and ice cream sundaes, it’s not just designed to look like an ice cream parlour of old — it just hasn’t changed in a long time. It’s like an old reliable friend though, so it’s comforting to see it exist with the same format and similar prices to the ones it had years ago. There’s a variety of ice cream flavours available here. Think of it as a baby cousin of Nardini’s in Largs. It looks small at the front but there’s a big enough seating area in the back, fresh rolls on the menu and good old fashioned sweets like nougats and chewies behind the counter. The mint choc trip packed into an oyster is a must if you’re kicking about near the beach. I used to bring my gran here — we’d get some ice cream and take a walk along the front on a sunny day(and sometimes on a rainy one, too). The ice cream is homemade and unrivalled, although there is now another available ice cream bar nearby in the candy shop a few doors down. Dino’s, however, will still always do it for me. It’s a great place to take your kids, partners, pals and gran to, and with it’s winning formula I’m glad it’s caught in an old seaside timewarp. Don’t go changing, Dino’s, I love you just the way you are!

A Helensburgh institution, Dino’s is a kitsch café which sells perhaps the best homemade ice cream in the west of Scotland. While the town itself may feel a little tired, Dino’s continues to thrive and if you do catch the west on a sunny day, a 99 from here and a walk along the promenade remains a thoroughly pleasant way of killing an afternoon. With a wide variety of classic jarred sweets and the obligatory sticks of rock, this really is the only place to visit for that authentic throwback Glaswegian holiday experience. Although, perhaps best avoided if you have a visit to the dentist scheduled in the coming months.

Dino’s is famous throughout Glasgow for having the most delicious ice cream so when I popped in a few days ago I decided to try it out. The décor was that of an old fashioned ice cream parlour. I was served by a rather haughty Italian man who told me to go for vanilla. Not one to argue, I plumped for the cone with a flake. I’m glad I did because it wasextremely yummy. Walking along the Clydeside promenade on a sunny day, ice cream in hand, is a definitive Helensburgh experience
