First of all, you must Hever Castle with over 700 years of history, Anne Boleyn memorabilia, and King Henry VIII’s bedchamber. After a wonderful experience in the castle, walk across the street for a pint, a cup of tea, and nibbles at King Henry VIII pub. A fire was roaring in the hearth, locals were cozied up to the bar, rustic tables, and antiques completed the atmosphere. The soups, bread, sandwiches were hearty and the local beer really good. Everything you would expect an English pub to be and more.

wild boar and apple sausage £11.95 — mum was pleased with the portion size but told us that it was no better than normal pork sausages. hot smoked salmon salad served with watercress, cucumber horseradish crème fraiche potato salad and soft-boiled egg £9.75 — firstly my portion size was unexpected and that piece of salmon caused even more wonderment! If only other restaurants were not so precious about their meat portions in salads, people would eat more salads. The watercress was delicious, crunchy, peppery and remarkably fresh. Everything on the plate was well done except for the soft-boiled egg where I thought the yolk was overdone to my liking. Whitby bay scampi and chips £10.25 — tender succulent scampi in a crisp batter, served with chunky chips that were made from good potatoes and not-too mushy peas and the best tartar sauce I have had for a long time. Not the healthiest of lunches, but very satisfying indeed!

This pub is gorgeous! Lots of different seating areas inside that are beautifully decorated. Covered patio outside as well as lots of open picnic table seating in the massive garden, which is right next to a little lake. Great service and good food. Very dog friendly!

Quite a few changes since I used before,(back yonder when it was called The Bull ‘n Butcher… a make on The Bullen Butcher))…but it was a nice place to be. The food is good, the place is warm and the staff really pleasant. Ideal to grab a bite when visiting Hever,(cheaper than eating in Hever)!Very interesting old outhouses of Hever Estate can be seen on the corner.

The Henry VIII is a really nice little spot a short walk from Hever Castle. The building itself is a gorgeous tudor creation. There are lots of original details like the ancient front doors. Inside, the place is quite sensitively decorated. Arguably Henry VIII carpet is a bridge to far but I found it cute. The service is very friendly and pretty efficient. We went for a Sunday roast turkey and a mushroom soup to share. The roast is a very large portion and comes with plenty of veggies. Red cabbage was an especially welcome, nicely offsetting the turkey. The meat itself was well cooked, but didn’t seem like great quality. Foodwise, this pub is a cut or two above UK average. I’ve still given 4 stars, because it’s a really pleasant place and has good staff.

Husband and I took an ill advised road trip to try and find Hever Castle even though it was well past the advertised opening hours. It was a stormy wet night & by the time we got there, we couldn’t see anything at all to even indicate there was a castle there. We came up the road and saw the Henry VIII pub gleaming in the darkness. It looked inviting and we decided to stop in. It was a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I liked the way it was decorated-there were some old chairs with distressed Union Jack upholstery and a fire was roaring in the fireplace. Overall we felt that discovering this nice pub made our trip in the dark worthwhile.
