Couldn’t agree more on the whole Berketex name thing. It sounds awful, and doesn’t quite have the same brag ring to it as say… oooh it’s Vera Wang dhhharling! If you’ve read any of my baby/bridal related reviews, you’ll know there’s something definitely in the water that my friends and family have been drinking, they’re either loved up and getting wed or have skipped straight on through to the babies. yikes. A friend of mine has been dipping in and out of wedding dress shops for over 12 months now, and with her big day looming and still no dress, Berketex was last on the list, mainly because it does sound so goddamn awful. The shop front isn’t the best way of pulling people in, but up on in we went. Pleasantly surprised is the response. There were much more choices and ranges and actual dresses than we imagined, and although they do not deviate away from the safe styles there are some lovely dresses to take in. Unfortunately fussy bride-to-be didn’t make purchase of a frock here, but from looking around, it isn’t one to be written off! Have a scan and be surprised.

OK firstly I can’t avoid addressing the name. Berketex? It sounds like a non-stick material for kitchenware, or at best a waterproof clothing manufacturer. Couldn’t really be any less romantic could it? Well upon visiting the shop the typeface used with added ‘x’s representing kisses slightly lifts the name from the heady depths of non-stick kitchenalia… so I entered trying to erase all preconceptions. Up a staircase the shop door opens onto wooden floorboards and glittering tiaras. A few prom dresses hang in pretty jewel colours. The wedding dress area is larger than you’d imagine from the tiny shop front below and row upon row of dresses glitter beguilingly. The dresses are classic in style… nothing making a statement… but they are very pretty with embroidered glittering flowers and full, many-layered flowing skirts. Despite the clunking name, I think many brides-to be could find THE dress here.
