Nice spot. It is in the Victoria Arcade which is a beautiful arcade, you are spoilt for choice really in this place… do you look up at the stained glass roof or do you people watch from the safety of behind a glass barrier surrounded by plants. Easily a place you could go alone. Especially as they have good coffee and delicious cakes.

Looking back over my previous Unilocal activity– the fact that I felt compelled to review Filmore and Union after a 1.5 year Unilocal hiatus illustrates how disappointing my visit was. I had previously visited the York branch for brunch which I loved due to the great view from the dining room, friendly staff and healthy yet delicious meals. Therefore I was expecting similar things from the Leeds branch(albeit without the view of York minster). We arrived at Sunday lunchtime and were told it would be a wait for a table rather than sitting at the bar, which wasn’t a problem. In the end we waited about 40 minutes for a table which would of been fine if the place was full but there were various ‘reserved’ tables which nobody sat on the whole time we were there plus tables for 2 which could of easily had another chair pulled up. Once we managed to get a table it wasn’t wiped over before we ate. We ordered our food, including 3 Smoothies which took a further 15 minutes to arrive. The food itself(when it finally arrived) was also slightly disappointing considering we had waited so long. My dish of poached eggs on Rye(£9) was tasty but seemed very small in comparison to other options– plus I only realised later that the dish should have included hummus. The skinny English breakfast(£10) was better value-for money wise– the sausages and bacon were particularly good, however the scrambled egg which we ordered came looking very like an omelette. We were offered 10% discount on the food due to the delay however the discount was originally omitted from our bill so I had to ask. Overall I was really disappointed with Filmore and Union especially as the York branch is so good. The staff need better training in managing ‘busy’ times and also on how to cook scrambled egg!
