Very slow service, the queue seemed disorderly with people at all sides despite a clear notice saying which way to queue. The staff saw this and did nothing to get people queuing the right way. This resulted in people jumping the queue in front of others. Wouldn’t use this place again, very very poor.

Leeds city centre has so many Sainsbury’s and Tesco Express stores that its pretty incredible! There’s another Sainsbury’s local round the corner near the Trinity! There’s one on Albion Street too and near the St. John too! I’m not counting Tesco stores. So many. It’s probably a sign of the times. People are on the go, Britons are working longer than ever and don’t want to wait to get to a big supermarket. Plus Leeds probably has more people living outside of the area commuting unlike Manchester where many people actually live in Manchester This Sainsbury’s is smaller than many of the other ‘Local’ branches. It’s main consumer it is aiming at is the commuter, so there’s lots of Sandwiches, snacks, ready meals, drinks, and other necessities the commuter might just grab quickly before going back home, or things such as alcohol. Stock is really limited though. Not a great selection. My main gripe as well is lack of space. This place seems so small. It could have been a bit bigger so you aren’t pushing and shoving people out the way, as this place 4pm to 6pm is really busy! I don’t see the point in going here personally. I pass this everyday after work in Huddersfield and I usually just wait until I get to the bigger Sainsbury’s store near St.John. Better selection and you can find cheaper alternatives to brands you are forced to buy in the ‘Local’ stores. I don’t understand the ‘Local’ name either. Nothing local about this branch. It’s in the city centre! We don’t need all these ‘Express’ or ‘Local’ stores in my opinion. What Leeds really needs is a discount store like Aldi or Lidl in the city centre. They’d do great trade, like the one in Manchester’s Arndale. Huddersfield has 2 to spare! Getting back on topic, this Sainsbury’s is what it is. It’s functional. It works for the busy commuter if they’re after milk, bread, cereal, alcohol, but nothing too specific. It’s a whole lot better than Marks and Spencer Food, and WH Smith for snacks, though I always wonder if there’s any point in getting a sandwich from them, especially seeing as Subway are across the station and Boots are also round the corner.
