The light mainly caters for leisure needs but on a basic level, not allot going on in the inside of it in terms of shopping, it has ok selection of restaurants I personally use this place for the cinema or as a shortcut, aside from that it serves no other earthly purpose to me. However The Light is one of them places I’d usually take for granted while passing through, but I once stopped and analysed the interior of it and thought ‘this place ain’t that bad afterall’ which I can see why some people could appreciate more than myself.

The Light in Leeds is one of the cities smaller shopping centres, located quite close to the Town hall. Depite it being quite small, they still is quite a few places to eat and drink like Café Rouge, Greggs(yes, another), Frankie and Bennies, Café Rouge, Prezzo, Starbucks, Zizzi and Tiger Tiger, quite a few of these places have a gluten free menu. They is a VUE cinema here and a Virgin Active. I would say this shopping centre is more somewhere to go to watch a film and then get somewhere to eat, as it certainly isn’t the best of places to shop in Leeds with their being very little shops, they is less than 10 shops here and they are not really good names. To sum up this shopping centre is still quite nice yet quiet compared to the rest of Leeds, although I would certainly not reccomened it to shop, it has a wide range of places to eat and drink and even a cinema. If you want to go to the cinema and then have something to eat, you have so much choice with a wide range of cuisine, french, english, itallian cusine serving resturants are all here and they is even a Red Hot World buffett, which does anything. I feel this place deserves 3 stars due to the fantastic choice of places to eat in such a small area, which is away from the busy Leeds Trinity so I feel 3 stars is in order, however I feel this is a little generous but I also feel 2 would be quite harsh especially considering all the food places here and a cinema, hotel and gym also having branches here.

It’s a funny thing to write a review of a shopping centre, but since my last visit to The Light, I realised I was indeed a fan. Whilst it’s of course handy to review the individual shops, giving an overview of these places is not without use. It’s not large, it’s not bustling per se, but it’s got some real gems within and for that it deserves a mention. One of my favourite indie coffee shops, La Bottega Milanese, is housed inside and it’s well worth stopping by for a pick me up. Not only do they have great coffee, but plentiful and delicious bites too. You’ll also find some lovely shops, including Fabrication and Joy, both of which are fab for a browse.(More on those individually.) As far as shopping centres go, I do enjoy the fact it has a pleasant mix of independents and chains, although I can’t say I visit for Café Rouge or Starbucks all that often. I’ve long intended upon eating at Franco’s, since trying a bite of their pizza at Epernay some time ago, so expect some words on there soon. I’m sad that Salt’s had to leave the place, but I hear they’re still online if you’re hankering for some of their delicious fare. All in all, it’ll take you perhaps a few minutes to wander through, but it’s a gorgeous building and well worth investigating. They’ve some kind of discount club, sometimes do events, and are yet another location in Leeds that gives us the shopping prowess we have.

Definitely not for high street shoppingwith the exception of ‘Joy’ the fashion boutique I love it for its unique fashion. Great place for food though and for hanging out with friends.

Not worth visiting for shops, but if you’re after an evening out eating or watching movies then this is the place to go. Parking prices are pretty much a rip off.

Ah, The Light. I spend to much time here I might as well have a room booked out in the Radisson!(It’s because I work in the Light, not because I have too much time on my hands!) It’s a nice place and O’Neill has reopened since Rachael’s review.

As shopping centres go, an amble through The Light is a considerably pleasant experience. The very high glass ceiling makes for a very light and airy space(hence the name), with an almost monumental feel when descending the escalator onto the ground floor. The Light doesn’t boast a huge range of shops, but is does manage to fit in a cinema, hotel and gym. Like most shopping centres, the shops are all chain stores, though of a more up market ilk that those of nearby St. John’s or the Merrion Centre. Due to the lack of independent retailers, bars and eateries the Light definitely lacks character in its offering, but its character lies in the huge towering space within, and the use of what were once exterior walls and windows of neighbouring buildings in its slick interior. If you seek a tranquil shopping experience, fancy a Nando’s, a trip to Vue, or simply want to take a short cut slicing off the corner between Albion Street and the Headrow, a walk through The Light can bring a moment of calm amongst the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

The Light used to seem so big and exciting to me… until I visited quite a few time and learned there’s not actually that many shops to look around inside! O’Neill has just closed down which was a fairly large shop inside the centre. If you’re like me and like looking around at pretty bits and pieces, you’ll love Confetti, another shop inside that sells craft pieces specifically for weddings and parties. There are also a few clothing shops and a Body Shop(which smells gorgeous!) And a fair few good restaurants whether you’re looking to eat in(Café Rouge, Nandos, Browns) or take out(Bagel Nash and Nandos again). With a Vue Cinema on the top floor, leisure centre and hotel, there is quite a little lot under one high, airy roof. Visit if you like wandering around and exploring.

What interests me the most about The Light is how it highlights the infamous catacombs that run through Leeds city centre. If you enter from Woodhouse Lane/Albion Street you retreat down a large set of escalators through what seems many levels to then exit on the Headrow. If you were to walk this via the street it barely feels like you are changing altitude at all. Anyway if you are a geek like me this will interest you, if you are a shopaholic and enjoy splashing out on good grub then the following may interest you. There are many clothing shops to investigate as the name suggests in an open, light-full space making it a much more pleasant shopping experience than many other shopping centres as you like you are outside. The caliber of shops is higher than other ones in the vicinity such as the Merrion Centre boasting a Lacoste, Henri Lloyd and Exit. There is also a huge variety of eateries from Bagel Nash to Browns, a cinema, gym and hotel — you could just stay there and never leave, ever.

The Light is a really nice shopping centre in Leeds city centre with some great shops and restaurants. The Light is clean, modern and fairly small but feels a lot bigger because of the natural lighting and soft colour of the interior. Not only is the centre home to shops and restaurants but it has some fantastic facilities including a decent sized Vue cinema, a Radisson hotel and a NHS walk in centre. The majority of the shops aren’t the usual range of high street shops with some small independent stores and uncommon national retailers with most of them selling clothes and shoes or gifts. The restaurants are centred around the lower floor and include coffee, sandwich shops and a selection of restaurant catering for all occasions but mainly for lunches and light meals.

Excellent place to leave your car if you’re going somewhere else in Leeds for the evening. There is a good mix of shops, cafes and bars, but it’s not an entire day out without venturing outside of the centre. The lifts are frustrating if you use a wheelchair or pram.

Nice place to spend some time when your in Leeds. There are loads of good places to eat such as Nando’s(Chicken), Maxis(Chinese), Brio(Italian) and Browns. As well as all the food outlets there are plenty of good shops. One of my favorite shops in leeds is in the Light which is JOY. Its great for clothes, cool, quirky gifts and greeting cards. I always find something in here when looking for presents. Once your finished eating and shopping there is a Vue cinema with loads of screens where you can catch the latest blockbuster. Also another bonus is its all indoors so you don’t get wet when its raining.

Very modern has some good but expensive shops but the cinema there is worth the money. Lovely little food court down by it as well.

With cinema, restaurants and designer shops, the Light has something for those wanting a nice evening out, or those wanting to get the latest fashions. The cinema(Vue) is good value, and often hands out vouchers with a purchase, and also accepts Orange Wednesdays. The décor is very professional and pleasing, and is a valued addition to Leeds centre.

The Light is so modern and trendy, I love it. I walk through it every day on my trip across the city from my apartment from work and I never fail to be impressed by it’s magnificence. It is so clean and bright you can’t help but like it. It houses some upmarket clothes shops, Mikey jewellery, body shop and a lovely chinese buffet and a Vue cinema, with some regular chain restaurants(Bella Italia, Starbucks, Nando, Bagel Nash) and coffee shops. The gym inside is far too expensive though. Parking isn’t the cheapest either, but it’s pretty handy for the city centre. A lovely place to pop for the cinema, a coffee or a chinese, but the shops are a little more expensive so more for special occasions or christmas shopping. There is a lift so good for those in wheelchairs or with pushchairs and a dedicated information desk.

The Light is nice and shiny inside. If you join their mailing list thing, you get an ‘Elite’ card and with it you get discounts in pretty much all the places inside(including the cinema — adults get charged student prices on Mondays and Tuesdays), plus money off your parking. And everyone knows the car park is dead good and secure, it’s got stuff about awards all over the place. It also smells nicely of chlorine.

A bit MOTR — the Radisson is in here, handy for staying centrally, and the cocktails in Browns are ok — but little else to recommend it. Oh — did I mention the cash machine?!
