One Friday night in the dark depths of January I dragged myself out with two friends for a spot of food. The Whitehouse is a little more than a walk away so we had to take the car but for once i didn’t drive! The bar was fully stocked and the place brimming with people and it was not even pay day. The staff were attentive and both the order and the food were dealt with swiftly. I had the lasagne which did what i needed it too, not startling but cheesily adequate. The steak and veggie thing were also thoroughly enjoyed by my friends and the Whitehouse is noted as somewhere to go for a very pleasant evening. I imagine in the summer, its close proximity to Roundhay Park will certainly be advantageous.

Went for Sunday lunch with my partner. No need to book a table and we arrived about 4:30pm. As with some places you get there at that time and the choice is limited but here they were busy and still had a full menu on offer. Opted for the belly pork off the main menu and my partner opted for the pork Sunday roast. Both meals were perfect and well worth the very reasonable £12& £7.99 paid respectively. Great atmosphere and staff were friendly and chatty without being intrusive. Worth checking out and we’ll be back in the future.

I have held off writing a review of one of my locals, mostly because I have always really wanted to like it, but something has always been lacking. However, after a day of digging in my parent’s garden, my pa suggested that we went along here for some dindins! I was not going to object. It appears that they have a new landlord/lady as quite a few things have changed since i last came here. mostly staff orientated. Plus the food was delicious! Last time(i’m talking at least a couple of years ago, but it put me off their food as I was that annoyed and hence only came here for libations) I complained about the most tasteless stuffed pepper i had ever consumed, but the waitress hardly spoke English and smiled and nodded and their customer service was awful. This time, LOVELY friendly staff and beautiful Nut Wellington(for us veggies) and piles of food for all the hungry diggers! The Whitehouse and I have made friends! I can also put it on my dog friendly list(ish). If you can get a table at the far side of the building(through the furthest door and on the right), you are allowed a dog in there… unless they have changed that aswell and reached a total peak of awesomeness… I shall have to ask the next time i go in :)

Ooh it’s all a bit posh for a little bit of Essex lush like moi isn’t it?! This is a beautiful, traditional, warm pub set back off Wetherby Road. Nestled amongst the pristinely manicured residences of some of Leeds’ more affluent types who like to Sunday lunch at White House then go home and sit in begrudging silence at either end of the heated indoor swimming pool. And that’s why I like it. Yes the food is DELICIOUS and very reasonably priced, there’s a wide range of drinks and the staff have clearly been trained by the Corgi Quiet Discipline Team at the University of Buckingham BUT… for the real reason. Please. Please just go there, enjoy the twinkles in the eyes of the lovely staff when they realise you are a ‘norm’ then get utterly utterly bladdered in amongst the crème de la crème of Roundhay society. Pour white wine over your top, get your mate to lick it off and then roar with hideous, gurgling laughter as you make a glorious spectacle of yourself. The bar staff will titter, twinsetted ladies will politely roll their eyes whilst their husbands eye you with the kind of wanton lust and longing that’s not been on their faces since that dirty girl in Mexico on their gap year from Medical School. Seriously, eat, drink and make merry in this beautiful place for all the best reasons… and also just because you like reminding those who place themselves in the upper eschelons that we working class scumbags are loud, proud and surround them. Tee hee hee x

Paid a visit to this pub after a friend recommended this place and I wasn’t disappointed. I went during the run up to Xmas, and it was decorated nicely with the usual Xmas bling bling, but the pub looked nice in and outside regardless of the season. It was cosy, warm and had a good ambience, creating a nice atmosphere, and I think they were playing Xmas tunes, but I can’t quite remember, as I hadn’t seen my friend in a long time, and we were just chatting away. We were quickly seated in a corner of the pub and I instantly started reading the menu as I was feeling paricularly peckish on that day. I ordered myself a Coke, because I can and my preferred ‘Coke’ with the braised lamb shoulder, mash, green beans and a flavoursome red wine, root vegetable & pearl barley sauce. The lamb was well cooked, soft, tasty, meaty, coming straight off the bone! It’s companions didn’t last long, and the sauce had good flavour. I opted for the main and dessert combination, and chose their own dairy ice cream(you can’t go wrong with ice cream after a main!), and had 2 scoops choc and 1 scoop vanilla. Some people might call me crazy for having ice cream in this weather, but I brushed them comments aside, and stuck to my guns. Good ice cream is always a winner. Oh, and the service was good and the staff were friendly. Bonus. So the all important, price is next now. I don’t eat out often, but when I do, I like to treat myself, and it came out to £20-£21(the lamb being the main culprit £15-ish), so it was reasonable and I enjoyed myself. Money well spent! If you’re looking for a decent, well looked after pub, with good food, and won’t bust thte bank then look no further than the White House.

Went to the White House for a birthday meal last week. I used to always go to The Roundhay Fox because the layout is special and the food used to be good but they must have changed their chef. The White House isnt as quaint inside but its clean and well appointed. When its full as it was last week, the atmosphere is great. The staff are wonderful and cant do enough for you. The food was fantastic. We were put at a small table to start with but then moved to a bigger table at the first opportunity. The 2 girls who served us and were cleaning up after us had so much energy they were wearing me ouit just watching them. As we were leaving, one of the girls said they remembered us from the Burns Night supper in February, now thats special. Highly recommend.

This is our local pub as we live close to Roundhay Park. I have to say I am always disappointed. The pub had a major refurbishment a few years ago and adopted a ‘gastro pub’ menu. The menu was extensive and elaborate but sadly the food did not bear witness to this. They have since trimmed down the menu but again when there are more adventurous meals on the menu or specials board, it fails to supply good food, however, if you stick to basic pub food it is OK. They either need to employ a good chef who can deliver the sort of meals they pertain to serve or stick to ‘pub grub’.
