Ramada Jarvis

I have just had the displeasure of staying in this hotel for a long weekend. I should start by stating that I am a smoker and as such expect a room that does not smell as fresh as one which is not dedicated to non smokers. I would be happy to pay a better rate for a room that was in a good state of décor. The room was very poor not one draw in which to place anything in and the wardrobe was open i.e. no doors by design. The room was at the front of the hotel so Granby Street was just a pane of glass away and it could be heard clearly from about 9 at night until 4 in the morning. They could install secondary glazing to elevate this nuisance. The room service was appalling on the second afternoon I placed an order which took nearly an hour to arrive and then it was wrong. I sent it all back. The second attempt I made, I made it clear of what I would actually expect. Again it arrived wrong and what was delivered correctly (soup) was cold. They put this right but I was not impressed and my appetite had waned waiting for it to be corrected. Breakfast day two was good. Day three gave me a choice of eggs ranging from solid yoked fried or hard, aged scrambled with sausages well over cooked. Day four I gave it a miss. It’s one saving grace was the attitude of the staff who tried very hard to put things right.

This place really does take the biscuit. I took my parents here for their stay visiting me in Leicester, we rang up and secured a room in the hotel prior to going to it, walked in and were denied the room saying none were available. This came as a major shock to us as we had given out our details and reserved a room. The staff were extremely rude and useless in dealing with our issue where we had to hang around for about forty minutes without being offered a drink of any sort. This place is rubbish, overpriced and tacky. Avoid at peril would be my recommendation!

The Ramada Jarvis is located within a listed building. The interior is traditional and needs a refurb in more than a few places. Otherwise, the rooms are of a reasonable size, the bathrooms clean and the breakfast not at all bad.
Located conveniently for the city centre.

The Ramada Jarvis is an old fashioned hotel inside with very high ceilings and a nice decedant feel to it — however, it has been let down presumably as the management focus on costs
The bar area is pleasant, and whilst the bar is very small the waiter will come and take orders from you in the bar area. Large Plasma TV in the bar area for sporting events, but its a fairly quiet bar and more suitable for reading and chatting to friends
The location of the hotel is excellent in the middle of the hotel The rooms are ‘old fashioned’ and dated, but conference facilities for corporate use are excellent and in this respect the old fashioned rooms fit the bill
