Ive been to Fudge a couple of times for gigs. The bar is identical to the one that is in the Krazy House next door, which is owned by the same people. There are no beers on draft but there is a good range of cans and bottles of beers, cider, ale, alcopops and soft drinks. They also have a good range of spirits and shots. The inside of fudge is a bit bland. There’s nothing that really catches your eye or makes it a memorable place. The floor is a bit sticky but otherwise the place is fairly clean. The stage area used for gigs is spacious and I’ve seen bands with several members play here with ample room. The stage is raised up about 3 steps and it is easy to get close to the bands when it is busy. I have often been past, or next door to Fudge on a night out. The music coming from there is horrible dance music and it really doesn’t make me want to go in. Its a shame that they don’t put more gigs on as it works well as a smaller venue.

I made the mistake of stumbling into fudge in freshers week and have tried to avoid it ever since. Inside it is a classic cheesy nightclub with the usual cheap bottle offers mid week and slightly cheaper prices than the rest of the area at weekends. Don’t let the lower prices and free entry tempt you though, there is a reason they’ve had to hire people to sit outside and beckon you in, mainly because it is more often than not empty inside!

Fudge wasn’t at all how I expected. I was predicting a cheesy club in the style of Flares or Reflex when what I got was the cloned décor of the Krazy House’s bottom floor. That’s not to say it was better than the vision in my head. It was different. In the same way that Mussolini and Himmler were different. To be fair, Fudge gave us free shots. To be more truthful, Fudge gave us free shots of beer that came from a big warm jug under the bar. Way to go, Fudge. You’ve remodeled anti-climax in drink form. Soon realising that we didn’t give a monkeys what people thought, we decided to dance in the most metrically awful way we could manage, which provided endless amusement… to us of course. Everybody else probably wanted to shove a bayonet through our windpipes.

Fudge isn’t exactly one of the trendiest places on Merseyside, but it is great for students or those on a low budget. It’s a fun place with a mixture of house, pop and golden oldies over the weekend. Friday and Saturday night is free entry until 11pm, then it’ll cost you £3 to get in. They’ve stopped charging £1 to get back in now so you’re free to come and go as you please — great news for a smoker! You can lollipops for 20p and glow sticks for £1.

This venue is only open on friday and saturday nights and opens especially for the student night ‘Carnage’ where it is a stop on the bar crawl. It has a very local feel, and does not attract the students but can be fun for a random night. The drinks are really cheap and the service is good.
