Places with a bit of character interest me a great deal. It’s what makes life exciting, seeing different things visiting new places, scanning down a new menu. All part and parcel of the joys of life. The Goose arrived at the queens some time ago and so did the punters. It is very popular amongst the local professionals as you might imagine due to ts location, so expect it to be bit busy between the hours of 5 – 7 on most days and very much so on fridays. Apart from the name however I found it difficult to pick anything to distinguish it from all the other options in the Pool. The service could be a little better I suppose, but the enthusiasm I went with to the place was depleted somewhat on my departure. The place wasn’t as exciting or different as the name had suggested, boooo!!!

Considering this pub stands in quite a recognisable location(sitting outside allows you to bask in the glory of ol’ Victoria’s statue, for instance) it really isn’t all that lovely a place. Maybe if the actual building that housed it was anything grander than a monotone cuboid of concrete it would attract customers who don’t just look like tramps or thugs fresh from the law courts a few hundred feet away. The Goose, aka The Queens, aka Goose at the Queens, aka Goose @ The Queens, aka The Queens Goose and Granite is a scruffy, modern-looking place with a bar swathed in pools of lager and staff who hate you on sight. Sitting outside by the open square is your best bet, provided you plan your exits and don’t wind anybody else up.

The Goose @ The Queens is one of my favourite bars in Liverpool. Its on Derby Square, just off Castle Street and near the Crown Courts. The food is both very good and reasonably priced served from lunchtimes onwards and service is speedy so its a good choice to grab a sandwich on your lunch hour. They have a large outdoor seating area at the front of the pub which is really good in summer. Its a very popular place and gets very busy at the bar at the weekends(the upstairs bar tends to be a little bit quieter though) but well worth it — I’ve had some brilliant nights out here.
