‘Ma Edgie’s’ as it is affectionately known In Liverpool has always been a nice little boozer but since it’s refurbishment and rebranding a few years back it has become a real favourite.
It has retained it’s ‘proper pub’ look but doesn’t feel old or grubby. The back parlour room with its ‘famous faces’ photos adorning the walls is particularly charming. The staff are friendly and the prices are really reasonable. I haven’t eaten here yet but the pizza menu looked nice. And the music was good too!
This is a great place to go if you want a quiet catch up with friends in an unpretentious pub with atmosphere. Does what it says on the tin. Brill.

Open! Despite that dismal banner at the top, this place is definitely open. Indeed, is has been recently refurnished, very sympathetically which might mean it was closed down for a while.
Reasonable beer, a good cup of tea and a very friendly atmosphere. Even a nice fireplace and close enough to the station that it is a good place to wait for your train, by the open fire perhaps. Very nice indeed.

I’ve been to Ma Egertons a few times either before going to the nearby O2 academy or the Empire Theatre. It is a decent sized pub which never seems to get very busy. It is decorated in dark wood and generic framed paintings. It doesn’t look as if its been refurbished for quite some time.
The drinks are cheap here, certainly cheaper than pubs in the middle of the city centre. The bar is well stocked with a good range of spirits, ales, beer, alcopops and shots. The staff are fairly friendly but they don’t say much.
The toilets here are really small. It is difficult to get into a cubicle without squeezing past a door. The toilets are damp and a bit dirty.
This is an alright pub for a quick drink before a gig, but I wouldn’t recommend staying too long.

Ma Egerton’s is a genuinely warm and traditional pub situated in a great spot near the O2 Academy. Unlike the nearby pubs on London Rd, Ma Egerton’s seems to have maintained its spirit and not descended into some sort of alcoholic stupour and lost the will to live!
It’s all dark wood, leather chairs and old photos in here which creates a romantic picture for anyone who has just got off the train in nearby Lime St station. Whenever I have been in I have always found the punters and staff friendly, always deep in a conversation or banter around the bar giving the place a good atmosphere even when it’s not full.

With an interior as rich and wooden as a conker, its sumptuous leather seating and its hawking clutch of regulars, it doesn’t take a genius to pinpoint this place as the old manniest of old man pubs. I came here alone one afternoon, when all the curtains were drawn, presumably to keep out pesky Mr Sun on principle alone as there were only two other fellers there and neither of them were watching the match on the big screen.
Its proximity to the Empire Theatre, literally yards, means it has seen its fair share of actors and stagehands nipping across for a swift pint over the years. It is one of those pubs that feels perpetually solid and impenetrable. The Charge of the Light Brigade could be going on outside and you wouldn’t have a clue.

Ma Edgerton’s is a great traditional Liverpool Pub! Me and my old man would spend many an afternoon here sipping bottles of Guinness Original and talking about days gone by. It’s one of few pubs left were the regulars are warm and welcoming and you can go alone and find yourself deep in friendly conversation with a group of locals.
The pub is hidden behind Lime Street Station and out of the way of the bustling City Centre. It’s a real old pub and is populated by regulars whose parents and grandparents probably drank here generations ago.
They have a range of draught beers and bottled beers and they serve a great pint of Guinness. If you are arriving in Liverpool Lime Street and have time to kill before finding your hotel, or just need a rest, I would recommend popping in to see the real character of Liverpool through the people themselves!
