Great service, food was delicious and portion size perfect. We came here because my mum had been here three years previous and had ranted and raved about it, so we gave it a try and we’re glad we did. I ordered the lamb kabuki gosht with a little extra spice and it was perfect. The pilau rice was great and everything was hot and tasty. I don’t eat naan but the garlic naan smelt delicious.

Lovely space. Good service. Okay Indian food. I arrived early on a Saturday evening, so it was fairly quiet, and I was seated immediately by the friendly host. My server came by quickly, and was also friendly throughout the night. The space itself is really lovely — clean, open, bright, modern, elegant. Really a beautiful space. The menu has many good choices, and it took me a while to decide on the Lamb Rogan Josh, with rice(which costs extra). I skipped the naan, which I always regret! My food came out within 15 minutes, and was of good quantity for the price of about 11 pounds. The flavor itself, however, was just okay. The lamb did not have a ton of flavor, but it was the spices that really underwhelmed. It just seemed like a fairly plain meal, which is always disappointing with Indian food which is often so deliciously spiced. I probably would try another Indian place in the future, but I give a solid 3 stars for service and the venue itself.

On a wet, chilly Sunday evening we both needed a warm-up. An Indian restaurant with promising reviews(and a corporate discount) seemed like just the thing. Mayur was off to a good start. Our bhatti murg appetizer was flat-out fantastic — juicy chicken cubes, perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of heat. The tandoori chicken was functional, but(as is so often the case) a little dry. Our garlic naan could have used more garlic; the potato naan was what you might expect. My lamb rogan josh was very nice — not as tender as the chicken, but again, perfectly spiced. We were plentifully supplied throughout with a lovely(and only slightly spicy) yogurt-coriander sauce which accompanied everything beautifully. The gulab jamun for dessert did what it was supposed to do, but we were disappointed to see that it comprised only a *single* piece with ice cream for £4.50 or so, which is steep even by UK standards. Happily, reasonably priced pints of Kingfisher and Cobra respectively kept most regrets at bay. We were attended by three staff members during our time at Mayur, one of whom made us feel decidedly unwelcome, though the other two were friendly. Service on the whole was a little slow, but otherwise adequate. The excessive A/C was a perpetual discomfort in such damp, cold weather, however, even after we asked to be moved to a warmer part of the restaurant. On the other hand, this bodes well for dining on a hot summer day. Duly noted! On the merit of flavor alone, Mayur warrants a 4. We were glad to have the corporate discount, however, as £48 for a by-no-means extravagant meal for two seemed slightly excessive. We’ll investigate other Indian offerings in town before we return, though if you skip the dessert and double up on the bhatti murg it would be hard to go wrong.

Found this place via Unilocal and it lived up to the reviews you will read here. Very tasty, fresh food from a creative menu. Service was also quick and friendly. Really great find; thanks to Unilocalers helpers!

I was really pleased with the entire experience — service was great and the food was authentic, fresh and flavoursome. The price was also more than reasonable for what you receive. Would recommend and return!

I was taking my brother to Anfield for his 30th and he suggested a ruby afterwards. Straight to the phone and this place was the first match, read a few reviews and went with it. On our wet arrival our caots were taken from us to be dried by the oven. This was a nice touch I thought and appreciated but be warned that your jacket will be dry but spicey! We had read that all week they did an earlybird special and when we stated that we would like to try this our menus were whipped from us and it seemed as if new waiting staff were assigned. The food was excellent. I cannot fault it. My Elaichi Ka Bhuna Gosht was fantastic and the starter was even better but I have lost my reciept, it’s not on the website but the spicey chicken starter on the earlybird. I did feel however that we were ignored once the deal was opted for. At no stage were we asked how we found everything which has never happened me in an Indian restaurant before, after our deal wine was quaffed we found it a challenge to get noticed so that we could order beers and when we were finishing our meals and drinks, a staff member started clearing the table of individual rice grains. We then asked for the cheque, which was met with confusion as it was barked at us that our deal included tea or coffee, perhaps only then was our disappointment noticed or cared about, we didn’t want tea/coffee but would have ordered more drinks and perhaps desserts had we not felt unwelcome and rushed. It had said on one review read that a reviewer had felt rushed but we did not expect this being two of at most 15 diners in a hundred seater restaurant. We were stared at blankly when we asked for our jackets but eventually got them. The toilets were immaculate.

If you know your way around Liverpool’s Duke St area, then perhaps you’ll be aware of the choice of cuisine for those looking to dine out. Another to make it onto the block and with great success is Mayur restaurant, which serves Indian dishes with a touch of finesse. However, rather than being just the generic eatery for this area — in other words, expensive and clean cut — Mayur achieves something few of the others bother to, takeaway. So, if you live local in town, this could be the ideal accompaniment for a night in with a DVD or to have friends around without going to too much trouble or effort when perhaps all you really want to do is relax. The menu itself is bursting with options and really caters for all tastes. Indeed, for those who are less keen on Indian delicacies, this is arguably the best place to enjoy fine cuisine and overcome such aversions that, let’s face it, is why people often like certain types of food and not others. Picture it now, the«oh, I don’t like tapas person,» or «I only really like to go Italian» kind of individual. Well Mayur on Duke St acts an intermediary or bridge for sceptics just on the well-cooked, eye-catching dishes — a rare gift that few restaurants can achieve. It also wins over people, firstly with the standard of service from waiters and waitresses with personality, who can engage with the visitors and boost their enjoyment of an evening. Unfortunately, like many eateries on Duke St, they are not the cheapest compared to other areas of town but it does deliver decent value for money by comparison too. This is one of the few places in Liverpool that can star as a takeaway of repute and as a classy restaurant. It’s up to you how to sample that cuisine, talking around a table or in the company of a Hollywood blockbuster.

Best Indian restaurant by far! A bit more pricey than your average Indian but still reasonably priced and worth every penny! Barra champ is my favourite starter, spicy lamb cutlets they are absolutely delicious. Also the lamb rogan josh, the meat just falls apart in your mouth! Everything I have eat from here satisfies my high standards! Staff are nice and friendly, and last time I was there(which was regrettably about a year ago) they did takeouts, great 4 chilling out in front of the telly.

A pleasant surprise for a city centre lacking in great Indian. ALthough not the best Indian food we have ever had, it was quite good. There is a special pre-theatre menu but you must ask for it. The atmosphere is lovely, modern andf very clean, and the service was good. I’ll be sure to return with visiting guests.

Ok, you’re all probably wondering what is behind the name. A clever meaning perhaps, sorry to disappoint you but I got nothing. As far as I’m aware it is just a name. So it’s just like calling a restaurant, David!!! Except Mayur sounds better. This restaurant really is up there with the best of them. It takes a lot for me to say that mind you. I normally avoid Indian restaurants as fellow Unilocalers are aware. When your mum cooks the best in the business, rarely is there a need to venture anywhere else. If I ever need a great south Asian meal I just need to ring the old lady. The food here is however fantastic and majority of it is authentically cooked in tandoori oven. This means it is less fattening and oily, to dispel any delusional notions that Indian cuisine is unhealthy…(What crock!!!) I just love the menu, it will have you salivating just reading it. Take my advice and just let them take care of you with the set menu for two at under £40 with the vegetarian equivalent at less than £33. Absolutely fantastic!!!

On Duke Street lies one of those curry houses that people wind up liking so much, they compare all others to it. Mayur has a loyal following and I can see why. The meals are pretty special and the prices really won’t lighten your wallet at all. The décor here is absolutely fantastic with ornate wallpaper, dripping chandeliers and offers those cosy private booths for the larger parties as well as romantic tables for two. Well, depending on who you’re with. The staff are very friendly indeed and extremely accommodating, very talkative but maintain their politeness throughout. There’s plenty of choice for the veggies and carnivores alike and even with booze you only end up paying about £15 each for the whole thing, starters and breads included too. Not bad, eh? The only thing that lets it down is it’s not located particularly centrally, but the fact that you have to trek a little to it only adds to its charm and character, and it’s certainly worth the extra walk.

Recommended by my taxi driver and worth a visit. This end of Duke Street’s pretty run down in a typical scouse-Dickensian stylee: if you know Liverpool, you’ll know what I mean. But the Mayur is a classy joint: spacious with lots of dark wood. The eclectic menu might leave a stupid person confused, but there are good(if slightly flamboyant) descriptions of the dishes on offer. I had Pindi Channa(Chick peas in masala with a hint of caraway seeds and garlic) and a side of Dhal Bukhara(slow cooked black lentils), plain rice and Tandoori Roti. Stella is only £3 a pint so I had two of those as well. The food was tasty and hot, service was prompt and friendly. If I have to criticise(and I do), the Dhal was a tad over-salted for my taste. Total bill £22. I can live with that.

A delightful modern Indian restaurant not far from Bold Street — I love this restaurant. I’ve lost track of the number of times I have eaten there. I have never had any problems and have always found the food to be delicious, the service friendly and efficient and the atmosphere relaxed. The food looks to be so healthy and not at all heavy on the stomach. I would definitely recommend!
