I’m not a tourist so the gimmicks don’t get over with me but the ale is usually of an acceptable standard and the pool tables there are a nice thing to have if out with the lads and we are in that sort of mood. There’s nothing out of this world about this place but it’s not a dungheap either. Toss a coin and make your own mind up to be honest here…

Im not quite sure what the other reviewers were drinking in this place but I didn’t notice much in the way of Beatlemania in MaCartney’s Bar at the Hanover Hotel — certainly I didn’t see any evidence of any Beatles hits from 1952 before they wrere formed!!! This may be simply because any reference here pales compared to most bars in the city but it felt more like a function room and I kept expecting a bride and/or groom to race past me at the bar. It’s had a refurb since I was last in and is much brighter and cleaner with a good selection of beers. Locals and residents will be found here and the atmosphere is always friendly. Gets lively on saturdays and when there are live performances. Good place to watch footy too on the big screens.

McCartney’s Bar is located adjacent to the Hanover(Merseybeat themed) Hotel. I dined at the bar during a lunchtime and found it to be a pleasant experience along with some great food. My meal of BBQ Chicken Tortilla Wrap for just £3.95 consisted of a plate of thick-cut chips, salad, folded tortilla wrap and a hot plate of barbecued chicken with mixed capsicums and onions, which was served so sizzlingly hot that the sauce was spitting out as it arrived at the table; Caution! To my surprise, the dish was quite a heapful for a lunch and definitely value for money. The BBQ chicken was flavoursome, a little rich perhaps but delicious. For me, it was better than any restaurant I’d been to; this was far from what I was expecting for pub type food. I would certainly visit again to try their other dishes which include lasagne, fish ‘n’ chips and a variety of baguettes to name a few. Overall, McCartney’s is a wonderful spot to eat in a soothing environment with an excellent service. Whether you’re a rock and blues fan or not, I’d recommend you try out their food!

For reasons that are as imperceptible and as hard to pin down as a ghost’s religion, this pub has always struck me as being exactly like a function room during a family wedding, with all the benefits and detriments that notion brings. I don’t think I’ve ever been here when a band haven’t. Always middle-aged singers and gloriously refusing to let the dream die, these fellers are well-suited to thrashing out classics and getting you dancing along or, in my case, tapping one foot intermittently. However, just like family shindigs, if it isn’t up to scratch, you get the feeling you’re trapped in the one room for the rest of the night. You’re not. Explore.

McCartneys Bar is a great little bar underneath Hanover Hotel completely dedicated to The Beatles and the merseybeat era. The music system has every chart hit since 1952 — an extensive collection to say the least! The hotel and bar were refurbished not too long ago, the seating is really comfortable and sets a relaxing atmosphere. The bar is lively in the evenings, with a chilled out ambience where you can get a few drinks and catch up with friends before heading out to the clubs. The food is homemade and pretty scrummy, it’s served between 12pm and 7pm every day. There is a variety of real ales as well as the usual spirits and wines, which means the bar will have something to suit everyone’s tastes. The sports events are shown on a big screen, and there is live entertainment at the weekends.

Liverpool’s Real Ale Guide has just popped this little beauty in its ranks as it’s started selling some super continental beers and lagers, so how bummed was I when I thought, ‘Well, it’s only fair that I go and review it for Unilocal then’? Not so bummed! It’s a great little spot. Of course you expect a lot of Beatles gushing in this here city, and this pub is no exception. The clue’s in the name, and adorning the walls is a great deal of memorabilia relating to John, Paul, George and Ringo with a huge photographic tribute to the guys as well as other bands of the Merseybeat era, when it was Scousers that were topping the charts left right and centre. The jukebox reflects such too, dating all the way back to 1952 with an extensive selection of albums in addition to every chart hit from the period. The seating is really homely and rather comfortable, and you can get some good pub grub here served from midday until 7pm. You can catch live music here, sports games on the big plasma screens or just kick back and relax. It’s worth visiting to look at the surrounding hotel too.
