On a gorgeous sunny day I’m sure this pub is a great place but ultimately this isn’t saying much because everything is better on a gorgeous sunny day, except maybe thermonuclear genocide. I visited here at night and was curiously terrified. It felt like some remote undefendable outpost surrounded by the leering eyes of forest-dwelling doggers. Family-friendly my foot. The problem with the Otterspool is its desperation to claw in as many people as possible, preferably families. Because of this there’s claw machines, fruit machines, quiz machines and as much free Coke as a child can glug. There was also a Christmas display set out ready for the flock of Yuletide customers. I saw this in early September. This made me sad.

Harvester is fantastic on a nice, hot and sunny day — all the space and picnic benches provide a lovely spot to sit down with friends or family and have a nice cold beer and a bag of crisps. Situated adjacent to Otterspool promenade, the ambience is really relaxed and chilled out. However, it can get really busy due to all these great characteristics and you may struggle to find a table outside on a nice day. Enough talk of the summer as it seems that ours has been and gone now, two days of the sun with his hat on hip hip hooray, that’s enough for mr. sun, now he’s gone away! So, if it’s not a glorious day, the Harvester is still a great place to go for a drink and something to eat. The menu is great with a wide variety of chicken, fish, vegeterian and pasta dishes which will set you back around £7. The early bird menu is available until 6.30pm daily where a three course meal will cost approx £10. They also cater for children, with a meal, activity sheet and balloon costing £3.95.
