I was excited when I heard about Roller City and couldn’t wait to go. Unfortunately when I did I was very disappointed. The rink itself is small, has pillars in the middle and the floor is bumpy throughout. This makes it dangerous for learner skaters who are going slow as they suddenly find themselves going uphill and inevitably fall over. The skates available for hire are uncomfortable, cheap and nasty. They could have spent a little more on the skates and had much better quality. The drinks are expensive and the range of drinks at the bar is very limited. This could have been an excellent place but instead is a big let down and a waste of time and money.

Now something I never imagined to see within the city centre of Liverpool was a roller disco, but having discovered Roller City on Mount Pleasant my love for Merseyside grew tenfold. I love the sheer retro beauty of a place like this, an establishment which has no right to be around in the modern age but survives on pure nostalgia. To be honest this place is not great it is nothing more than a laugh as a whole and something you have to take with a pinch of salt. If you remember not to expect to much then you will probably have a good time. So on the whole a nostalgic piece of fun, but it gets a bit tiresome after a while as you would expect with such a repetitive activity. There’s a reason that places like this died out but it is nice to see that somewhere is still giving it a go.
