What a fantastic place to go. The food is amazing and the staff do everything they can to make you feel welcome. You go into Sorrento as a customer but come out feeling like an individual. The modern atmosphere combined with the feel of a roman place allows dinners to relax, enjoy the company of friends and have a good meal at the same time. I have not yet experienced the lunch menu only the evening meals but from talking to friends they say it’s reasonably prices and delicious. The Managing Director(Luciano) has another 2 restaurants which I will be defiantly paying a visit to over the coming months.

Sorrento under its previous guises had been a regular haunt of my friends and I through the years, mainly due to its great offers for lunch. However, those restaurants would leave as quickly as they entered and it’s most recent incarnation has never really gained back our regular custom, possibly due to the rise in popularity of other cheaper lunchtime venues such as the Left Bank. However, I decided recently to take the plunge and visit Sorrento, for lunch again, and I was not disappointed. Whilst it’s not the cheapest in the village, they offer a 2 course meal for £8.95 at lunchtime or 3 for £11.95, which represents great value for money when you consider the dishes you get. I started with the Spaghetti A’matriciana which had a brilliant blend of flavours as well as a spicy kick. For my second course I ordered tuna steak cooked in garlic and white wine, which offered an interesting mixture of flavours that tamed the palate nicely. It might not be the cheapest, but if you’re looking for somewhere a bit more sophisticated than the Left Bank and you have some time on your hands I’d recommend Sorrento, particularly on a nice day when you can sit out in the delightful outdoor area they have.

I spent a really enjoyable family holiday in Sorrento not long ago, days around the pool, long walks through the labyrinthine streets of the town, train journeys to nearby Pompeii and Naples. Lovely. So it was with trepidation that visited this new Italian restaurant, the food was one of the best things about that holiday and there was almost no way that the place could possibly match up. Add to this the fact that this property has been an Italian restaurant for years; it was the original site of the fantastic Don Luigi’s but after this it changed hands and names many times — Est, Est, Est; The Italian Kitchen; The Black Pepper — but to no avail. It seemed a cursed site. I have to say though, that I was most impressed. Although the food is more northern Italian than the name would suggest it is very, very good. The penne arrabiatta was hot(spiced) but crucially not too hot(burning the roof of your mouth off) and the minestrone was the finest I have ever tasted. While we tucked in the manager did the rounds, a cheery middle-aged Italian fella — «I hope you like the minestrone; it’s campbells finest» he joked. I think we may have to start coming back here. Bravissimo.
