Tourist trap. Nice interior right in the dock area, around the corner from the Beatle store. But the prices were high and food poor and bland. Very little of this place is authentic. Almost none of the dishes were spicy. They did not have staples such as Chicken Tikka Masala, daal soup, chai tea, etc. Despite the nice interior, they seated me next to their kitchen where they put the dishes out for the servers, which had a couple of bright flood lights pointed at me. Among 8 indian restaurants I have eaten at over UK, and dozens more in the US, I would say this was the biggest mistake. About $ 40 for one chicken dish, one spinach dish, and one bread … and very unsatisfied after the meal.

British Indian food has come a long ways. Very pleasantly surprised – spicy and tasty – ate there two dinners out of 4 in Liverpool there. The biryani was good – be wary of ordering it hot as it willl be really hot. Minor peeve: no desserts or lassi served. Wine list looks extensive though…

Coming from the states I was very eager to try some Indian food while I was in Liverpool. I’ve heard all the rumors about how fabulous it is. When a local recommended the Spice Lounge to me, I had to make sure it was in my culinary adventure while I was in town. We came in during the afternoon. Only a few other tables were seated after us. The staff was friendly, but didn’t seem prepared for afternoon guests. We ordered some appetizers and wine. There was unfortunately some confusion and they missed one of our appetizers. Our main courses came and I leaped right in. I have to say — wow. The flavor was truly astounding. Different from what I get in the states, but so fresh and lively. I really could tell that it was made to order and the spices were well defined.(Rumor has it the spices are flown in so they are the freshest they can be). It was not over spiced and hot, but perfect. I tried several things since we had multiple people with us. All of them were divine. I recommend this place if your ever in Liverpool. Make it a must stop! I only give it 4 stars because of the service and messing up our order. I’m sure next time they would get it right :)

Certainly not the spiciest Indian I’ve ever had, but still ranks as some of the best. Throw in the friendly and knowledgeable staff with the relaxed atmosphere and you have yourself a 5-star review! As I was with a large corporate group, I believe I had a chance to try nearly everything on the menu in a single visit! Nothing was disappointing. The naan might have been the best I’ve every had! Wash your meal down with a Kingfisher or Cobra beer to enjoy the full experience. If I had to site a fault, and it is difficult to find one, it is that the spicy level just isn’t the same as it is in the states.

In my home town of Birmingham Indian cuisine is big business so much so that an Indian restaurant from the city won the top prize on Gordon Ramsay’s programme the F word and as such I am a big fan of a good Indian. Liverpool has done little to impress me on the curry front, until I decided to visit The Spice lounge which looked and sounded right up my street and how correct I was. As you would expect with restaurants in this area the décor was great and made you feel as though a meal here would be a real experience and this also turned out to be correct. The food is fantastic, it is prepared in charcoaled tandoori ovens and this is where The Spice Lounge really edges ahead of its rivals. They claim to be authentic and they are just that, they provide real food which tasted as though all the care in the world has gone into it. The prices are a little steep but the quality matches up so check it out as The Spice Lounge truly is the REAL deal.

I had heard a lot of things about spice lounge before I managed a visit. Most of the things I had heard however were less to do with the food and more to do with who was seen dining there. Now if you look through my previous reviews of Indian restaurants I am very hard to please. Mainly because having tasted authentic home cooked south Asian food I feel that a handful of restaurants even come close to the same vicinity in terms of quality of food. Now lamb and chicken biryani are a great testing grounds for me. How good these two dishes are give a rough indication of the chef’s talents. Spice lounge is very good, and I am sure people will love it. From my viewpoint though having been consuming authentic home cooked south asian food from the beginning of time, Spice lounge comes in as pretty much your run of the mill Indian. The menu is very recognizable, as is the food. It didn’t excite me at all, it didn’t let me escape and be lost in a cosmic karma like state of foody heaven. It left me sat on a table munching away with only but conversation to keep me from snoozing. Sure you can decorate the food all you want it can look like a piece of art, but that has to be secondary to the flavor, texture et al. You should cook amazing food first, then think about presentation not vice versa. This not to retract from the fact this is a very good Indian restaurant in a very good location. So if you are in the mood for an Indian go here and be merry, this is a comfort restaurant zone!!!.

This is a stylish venue! Spice Lounge offers a wide range of modern Indian cuisine. It boasts one of the only Tandoori ovens outside of London. There is a good selection of traditional Indian food. My favourite dish at the moment is Chicken Khurchan — succulent julienne strips of chicken cooked in authentic Indian herbs and spices along with onion & tomato, it does not have much of a sauce, and so instead the thick sauce tantalisingly clings to the spicy chicken, mixed peppers & fresh green chillies. Mmmh it’s making me hungry just thinking about it… time for dinner I think.

Great curry place! I went to there with my boyfriend and we were really impressed. The Spice lounge is located in docks so we thought it is fairy expensive but very reasonable. We went to lunch time and it was only us. at first we thought, maybe this restaurant was not good. but when the food was served, very good. good aroma with fresh herbs and ingredents. I ordered some meat curry and starter and my by ordered a vegetarian one so that we can share. The staff is very friendly and good sence of humour! When I go to Liverpool next time, I would be back there again!
