This pub is tired and unloved, Worn out carpets, dark paintwork colour makes it look like nothing has been done to it since the smoking ban, tatty seats, strange smell, the only good thing is the polite welcoming staff and the garden

i consider this to be my main local with great food on offer during the day(well cheap and cheerful pub grub anyway). quite often indulge in the two meals for a fiver and are satisfied everytime. ale is spot on, not having time to get old it is fairly busy but often my choice in summer since the beer garden is a good size and friendly! atmosphere is great as it is mixed, never seen trouble in there and met everyone from lovable scousers to students such as myself yet to take the smile off my face :)

The Albert is a large pub, alltracting many types of people from students, families, professionals and the locals who are part of the woodwork. On sale is a huge range of lagers, ciders, ales, cocktails, shooters, bottled beers, alcopops, wine, spirits and soft drinks. The bar is a massive oval shaped bar, serving the whole pub, and even in busier times there are enough bar staff making sure that customers do not have to wait too long to be served. There are often drinks offers on such as pitchers and cocktails which work out very well for the customer. There is food availble during the day which is inexpensive, of generous portions and served quickly. The bar staff are friendly and helpful, even during busier periods, and there are always plenty of staff around. The staff also work hard to ensure the pub is kept clean and are happy to chat as they are cleaning up. There is always a nice atmosphere in the Albert. I have spent many a summer day in the beer garden which is a spacious sun trap. If you like a pub that is comfortable, inexpensive and not pretentious then the albert is definitely for you.

A more traditional building taking up a good chunk of the heterogeneous lunacy of Lark Lane, the Albert is a decent enough place to go for a few pints, either at the front curvature of the bar, the high-backed leather booths in the back rooms or the beer garden outside. This is the kind of place that feels like it was the haunt of some esoteric group of geniuses in the mist-shrouded past, although reality soon gets the better of you and you realise it’s always had the same rambling sort of regulars. Despite looking like he’d one day throw me off the roof of a car park, it only took the barman two visitations from me before he had my order memorised. Good show old bean.

I hesitate to say it but this place is a bit of a dive. It’s a very local pub and although relatively perturbed by a teen crowd on bikes guarding the entrance like bulldogs, we ventured inward. The staff are nice and friendly but it seemed that on this occasion the regulars were a little odd. One guy in particular took a seat on the table next to ours and began muttering to himself, having a blunt argument with his copy of The Mirror, oddly in time with our conversation. I had a good time with my mates, but it’s not the kind of place you go on your own hoping to strike up some witty repartee at the bar. To be honest, if you were going in for a swift one, I’d enjoy it in the Beer Garden out back which is a nice little spot to enjoy the sun.

There is only one reason The Albert hasn’t got 1 star and that’s because I got drunk and had a laugh. That’s generally the minimum a pub has to do so it gets 2. I don’t tend to go to The Albert that much, even when there have been very few decent pub options on the Lane, it hasn’t really been on the radar. There isn’t much of an atmosphere here, I think that has generally got something to do with its layout of high ceiling rooms, everything feels cut off as if there is something better going on around the corner — but there never is. Creating scenarios of constantly letting your punters down will count against you in my opinion. However it does have a large beer garden, which in a leafy area like Lark Lane should be a must for more venues. The food is really not the best, standard pub food isn’t really an excuse in this day and age, just stick with a pack of nuts till you venture elsewhere, God knows there are enough eateries nearby.

The Albert is one of Liverpool’s traditional pubs that, despite crumbling at the edges, is just utterly spell-binding. Its clean white exterior hints at better days, but inside the atmosphere is absolutely top notch and you can guarantee that you’ll be served a pint of real ale with a joke and a smile. The Albert is based on Liverpool’s bohemian Lark Lane and it really is the personification of this area. It may be slightly faded, but there is something unintentionally trendy about it and it’s not uncommon to see locals and students chatting over a Cain’s lager. As well as serving food, the Albert is the perfect place to watch major sporting events on its many tvs… however, make sure you pop in to fully absorb the faded décor as it’s an absolute treat! This place wouldn’t be out of place on Albert Square, but the humour and vibe is definitely scouse. The stuff of legends.
