Love this hotel! This is the only hotel we stay at when we are in London. We used to stay at the Dorchester or Ritz which was a little stuffy. I love how 45 Park Lane has a boutique hotel feel, the staff is always pleasant, the rooms are modern and love, love, love that the marble floor in the bathroom is heated! The view from the balcony isn’t bad either.

This hotel is beautiful. It’s next to the Dorchester, and is part of the same group. It’s meant to be thought of, I believe, like a modern Dorchester. There’s a Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the hotel, which we didn’t get to try but the menu looked amazing. The service at the hotel is great. Check in was quick and we left the obligatory credit card imprint just in case. You’re brought up to the room and run through how things work, because it’s not second nature to know how to work a television that’s part of the bathroom mirror so you can watch it while you soak in a big tub, but that still looks like a mirror when it’s off. The amount of technology in the room is crazy. Everything is controlled from remotes, wall panels, and an in-room iPad. We had a balcony allowing us to go out and look out over Park Lane like proper fancy-pants people Unfortunately we had some niggles that lost the 5th star, for me. There was a set of cables and hook-up points to connect your laptop to the big television, which we did so we could watch something on my laptop. Unfortunately it just stopped working and we couldn’t make it better — and I was hardly going to call and ask for assistance with it at midnight. I’ve used the same system before so I know it works with my laptop and how to use it so I’m not sure what went wrong. The free internet is pretty slow. We had upgraded internet but were never given any codes or anything. Again, I should have called and asked but it was very late. I found it hard to know how to work all the controls to turn things on and off and open the curtain and stuff — it’s all very flash but sometimes I’d rather just flip a switch, to be honest. And then in the morning, despite having the do not disturb electronically activated on our door, someone knocked and entered to clean the windows. I was in my pajamas and quite perturbed. However it was still an amazing place and very comfortable. Check out took seconds as we only had some complimentary juice from the mini bar and the room was pre-paid by someone else. You can imagine our shock when our credit card came through with a charge for over £400 from the hotel. It took several calls and emails to get the refund sorted, as our room was charged to both us and the person who paid for the room, and we had a mini-bar charge even though we didn’t have anything chargeable from said mini-bar. For all the small problems we had, any other hotel would have only been given a 3. But considering the hotel and the reception staff would have earned a 6 if I could, the 4 seems fair. They do run special offers, but this is always a 5* hotel in terms of pricing and service, so plan accordingly! I was lucky to have a £750 room(we were in a group booking from a company, hence the cheaper £400 rate that we were double-charged). An experience I know I won’t ever get to repeat, and I’m happy to be able to say I’ve been there!

If you’re into the Park Lane side of Hyde Park, this is a terrific modern hotel. Service from check-in to check-out is outstanding. The technology in the rooms is bleeding edge and even though I“m a part-time IT guy, it had me perplexed at times. The in-room snacks and refrigerator goodies are top notch and the B&O TV that swivels from the wall was sharp. The bathroom had both a huge tub and a rain shower head that was very enjoyable. If you’re looking for something a bit more traditional, I’d do the Mandarin Oriental on the other side of the park.
