I love this place. I’ve only eaten here once but will always try and check it out again if I’m in the area. I had the standard cod and chips with mushy peas and it was great. The restaurant is located upstairs and is quite busy at lunch times. You can also do take away which was also quite busy. Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of the city!

I work right around the corner and discovered this place because I was coming into work late and needed to grab something quick to eat. I pass by this place twice day(to and from work) and have never walked in until yesterday. The cod and chips were good. What really made them good is their fish. The chips, on the other hand, were a little soggy(I prefer them crispy on the outside). This is probably just my preference. Anyway, the guy at the bar said that they don’t usually take credit card but made an exception for me. He called the people upstairs and they brought down the machine. Why it usually isn’t downstairs is beyond me. Next time I’ll bring cash so it’s no big deal. It just so happened that the only cash I had that day was USD. Now, I’ve had better fish and chips(in the States no less) but this place does the job of filling you up with deep-fried goodness.

I have finally found a fish and chip shop near work. Alexander’s was doing a brisk trade on Friday lunchtime with the folks in the city hungry for a pre weekend treat. Having said that, I have had much better chip shop fare in my time, plus it was a bit pricey for a fish bar, probably a reflection of its EC2 location. In reality it is only a two star venue the extra star earned by its proximity to work.

This is a rather pleasant Fish and Chip shop that also has a restaurant. It’s a little tidier than most places and a little more expensive. The batter is light and crisp and the fish tastes great. The chips are generally very good for a fish and chip shop. I’m not sure if they are fried twice as I have had some in their busy 12pm-1:30pm period which don’t seem to have that epic crunchy on the outside — fluffy on the inside quality. Generally I go a little later, around 2pm which has two bonuses: 1) The chips seem to cook for a little longer and are much better. 2) All my co-workers have returned from lunch and I can gaurantee offending the maximum number with that distinctive fish and chip aroma as I munch through this splendid example of the original British Take-away at my desk. Roll-on Friday!
