I actually really enjoyed myself when I went to Amber with work colleagues although I’m not sure how much of that has to do with how drunk I was! The drinks were great and not extortionately priced either. We were in the disco themed room and the dance floor is fun and the music was cheesy(just the way I like it). Early evening they have roller skaters on the dance floor until people are ready to start dancing. The only downside of the night was when I fell over and spilt booze on my head… Oh dear. It’s a good place… Give it a try.

Amber is the place that we go to when we can’t decide where else to go. It is always the«safe» choice because the drinks here are decent at reasonable prices. Happy hour prices draw the crowds in and the music/vibe makes them stay. One of the best parts about Amber is their bouncers. They can tell if you’re a city boy that’s spent the past 12 hours slaving away and want someone to grab a brew and have a good time — or if you’ve spent the past 2 – 3 hours primping out in Essex and have no creases on your shirt. The former will get it, the latter will be left standing outside. The Essex girls are always allowed in though. The four rooms have different vibes, with the Opal Bar being my favorite because of its dark walls and tall leather seats. The disco room is always groovy, though the crowd there tends to be slightly older. Long story short — Amber is a great place to start a night out — and its location allows easy access to the tube/bus system once the night starts playing out.

I met my wife here 5 years ago when this was Digress so this place is obviously awesome. If your mum ever tells you that you wont meet your future spouse in a bar/club, tell them that theyre wrong! I used to go here a lot when I worked nearby, and my experiences were all positive. decently priced drinks, good music, happy hour, good mixed crowd of people(men, women, white, black, brown, young, younger), and also a couple of dance areas which go on into the early hours. I’ve never seen any fights or anything silly like that and the staff are helpful with the service good. There are…3 bars from what I remember and all good sizes and with a decent amount of staff, so you dont end up standing around for ages waiting to be served. Yep, generally this place is pretty good :)

I had a lot more fun at Amber Bar than I thought I would. That had a lot to do with the incredible half price and/OR 2−4−1 drinks that run from 5p to 8p. Wow. You really can’t beat that. And good cocktails, too, none of that cheap, colored sugar water plus booze crap(I’m looking at you Tiger Tiger). And many of them come in pitcher sizes, too. Clearly, Amber wants you to get drunk and dance. And dance they did! By the time I arrived at 630 on a Friday, there were already some Amber dancers out on the dance floor, smiling away and dancing for our enjoyment, while those with bleary eyes and work-addled brains tentatively sipped their first drinks and looked on with mild interest. Cut to about 930p, and the floor was packed. The 70s and 80s mix was predictable(Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Blondie) but also very, very danceable. Though I started to feel like I was at wedding. People who were far too drunk and dancing way too haphazardly to «Brick House.» Honestly, the best part of Amber for me was the staff. Everyone seemed happy, fun and helpful. No snobbery, no attitude and bartenders worked their butts off and smiled while doing it. It really makes a difference.

Nice 80’s style dance floor, but mediocre and expensive drinks and an average ambience make it a pass in my book.

I went to Amber once for 50 percent off drinks. needless to say i went with double whiskey cokes. perfectly delicious and worth the 4.50 quid. the rooms were all of what you see in a place like Amber. stylish with every table reserved for a later hour so there was very limited seating at this point in time, but there was plenty of room and the rooms set a nice vibe for a cool evening. The most entertaining room was definitely the disco, lets get down and funky room. There were two girls who were dancing side by side in small outfits. Needless to say, most the men had managed to make their way to this room and surround the disco divas on the dance floor. If they were cool enough, the dancers might even take a fella or a gal onto the floor to get funky. It was entertaining. all in all amber was a cool place for a few drinks. I definitely wouldn’t have gone if it wasn’t half off drinks. As it is quite pricey, but for half off drinks and a show. i really can’t complain

I hate it and yet I can’t… look. away. This is how I feel everytime we go back to Amber for some after work drinks. It basically has all the key elements that make Barney Stinson happy: suits, attractive women and awesome. Let me give you a run through. Walk downstairs into the main area — crowded, can’t get to the bar, suits. Coat check to your right, full tables, meh. Head through the doors to the right and woosh! Yes, that is indeed a 70’s disco dance floor. Yes, those are indeed scantily clad dancers on rollerskates. Yes, that guy just ordered 8 Jaeger Bombs. No, that was not me. I swear. This is where I grab my first drink. The music is loud, the bar is usually less crowded, and there is entertainment. Plus it’s fun to get pulled onto a disco dance floor. When you feel like a quieter atmosphere, you head out where you came in and make an immediate left into another bar. Different, current music. A booth is reserved to your right. To your left a VIP section adorned with a bouncer. To your front, a new bar and plenty of people to watch. Another drink please. Head back further and you end up in the lounge-like Milk Bar. Order 4 bottles here as it’s 6:58pm. Then leave because it’s not worth staying after happy hour.

I’ve been here twice, and had two very different experiences. First time, office Christmas party: I walk down a series of steps and fight my way through a massive crowd to our booked room. It had a dance floor that was illuminated with brightly colored lights and my gaze was immediately drawn to a huge disco ball that hung from the ceiling. No one was dancing. hmm, that’s odd. Oh wait, they are playing 70’s and 80’s music. Awesome! I immediately try to find people to teach how to swing dance. There are two problems with this place, well 3 if you don’t like swing dancing: 1) Its so crowded 2) Its disgustingly hot in there 3) the music is not typical(not a problem if you like to dance swing/latin) (ok there’s 4) 4) Drinks are expensive and mediocre There is one redeeming factor: During happy hour, they have an outside bar upstairs in the square. Beer is cheap(ish) and plentiful and on a nice day its not a bad place to grab a few after work. Other than that, skip it

Probably one of the worst bars i have been to. It was happy hour where drinks were half price between 6 and 7. Of course, the bar area was crazy busy with only 3 people serving. As its slap bang in the middle of Moorgate, it was full of rowdy, rude and abnoxious bankers shouting across the bar and ignoring anyone shorter than them. If you do go, just stick it out till after 7 when it all dies down. Their cocktail menu isnt too bad!

I love to hate this place and hate to love it, it seems to bring out the best/worst in me. Let’s get this straight, this place is a meat market. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but be sure that you know what you’re letting yourself in for. Full of city workers, Thursday through to Saturday makes it one of the Square Mile’s hot spots. Consequently because of the clientele, the drinks are highly-priced. You won’t get much, if any, change from a £20 note buying a round of three drinks. Strangely though bar lovers here appear to be expect, if not embrace this. Happy hour is from 5−7pm but since most city types finish at 6, it’s a scrum for the bar and bar service from about 6.11pm! There are three separate bars: Opal, Disco Underground and another one which I can never remember the name of but i always finish the night in. It tends to get messy towards the end of the night. Don’t get me wrong, if you’ve something to celebrate with the work crew: a promotion, new business, a birthday, still having an actual job(!) or whatever, this is the experience you probably want. Anyway, once those beer goggles are firmly on, you won’t know where you are at any rate. I’ll give it a grudging three stars but I have to be in the right mood. The same caution should be exercised by you — don’t go if you’re not up for ‘aving it large!’ as you’ll just be giving yourself unnecessary palpitations.

Amber opened in July in place of Digress in the basement under the Citypoint Tower. It’s open as a bar/diner during the day but after 6 it becomes a club with long queues for entry. Following the refit there are four distinct rooms offering music ranging from cheese to chart RnB. In the Milk Bar at the back, which has a «Clockwork Orange» feel to it a burlesque dancer plies her trade for a couple of five minute shows in the early evening. The crowd as you would expect for EC2 is mainly city workers drawn from the surrounding areas, this is reflected in the drinks prices. A bottle of beer is priced at £4. The pitch of the guy selling the aftershave in the gents is «to freshen up for the punanee» which shows that underneath the City pretensions, Amber is just a regular UK city centre night spot.

I came here for a cocktail making masterclass hosted by Kelly(Winenut) and had a really good time! Great company aside, the venue has many areas that can be hired out for all sorts of Office ‘dos’, some are behind a curtain and private and some are just ‘sectioned’ off. The bar has a great selection of wine, beers and spirits, not to mention a vast cocktail list that has happy hour with 50% off! There is also a menu for bar snacks, your classic ‘potato wedges’ and all that jazz!

We came here for a work lunch, the food was gastro pub standard but at just the price of a standard sandwich lunch at the city. a minor quibble is we went in the middle of a cold snap and in the section we were in it was quite cold and we had to wear our outdoor jackets! but in general recommended
