This place is now called Finch’s. A considerable sum has been spent on renovation, décor and furnishing and it’s become a very smart, comfortable place to meet friends and colleagues. Great atmosphere, polite staff. However, they over-stretched themselves on the list of wines available by the glass. Having struggled through half a small glass of Sauvignon vinegar, I switched to a Côtes de Provence rosé that had obviously been opened the day before and ended up leaving half of that too. Everyone was saying how good the beer was, though.

Great Eastern Central pub right near Moorgate. I am surprised it’s not more colonized by the hordes of students which take the LPC in the heavily Law College dominated area. It have plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer months. However, I like how expansive the place is. Though it looks ‘old English’ from the outside, the more towards the back you go once inside the more glassy and modern it becomes which is nice. The couple times I’ve been here, I have found it not busy and I always manage to find seats(which is such a weighty criteria in my book). The staff is great and always friendly though the beer is a little on the pricy side. I hear the food is pretty great here but have yet to try it!

I walk by this place every day, and was finally curious enough to step in for a pint. The atmosphere was nice and the bartender was friendly. We grabbed two pints and ordered some food and sat down. I got the all day big breakfast. Its really hard to mess up a breakfast, all the ingredients are just too good together. This particular breakfast was good, but the tomatoes and mushrooms were way overdone. All in all, good but not great sums up the whole experience and the pub itself. Its not really that exciting, the foods decent, the beer is not over priced, but not cheap either. It’s not a place that I would go out of my way to find, but its convenient location will definitely draw me in for a pint every now and again.

This is a decent bar/pub to have a drink in after work. In summer there is outdoor space. There are function rooms which can be reserved for private parties. I had a work’s doo here and the staff were incredibly nice. There are a good selection of drinks including guest ales but prices are what you would expect for the City. It is an easy place to grab an after work drink with work colleagues

Only ever sat outside for a quick pint here. Mostly city boys. Can’t really comment on atmosphere, etc.

Better than average. Expensive, but the food’s good, the service is OK and it has some pretty barmaids.

Drinking in the city is a challenge at the best of times, but the Master Gunner is one of the better bars in the square mile. It was converted a couple of years ago from a trendy bar back to the look and feel of a traditional English bar, which it achieves quite well. The staff are very friendly, even when they’re stressed out with a bunch of typical traders flashing their fifties around at the bar. They manage to fend off the crowds at the bar with their fast service, so although it can be daunting trying to get a drink you’re not usually waiting too long. On the bad side, if you’re not a ‘trader’ you may get a little irate with the typical suits in the pub, but the excellent selection of beers(although expensive) should help you out!

This place is a proper english pub, but it can get pretty busy after work. The food is okay, but not great, and slightly over priced. Even so, we always seem to go back there!

Good beer if you can afford it. If your out for a easy life or keen to impress, OK. Otherwise try heading a little north or west away from the city-types, for a cheaper ‘less up-itself’ pint.
