No bar is a good bar if the staff are rude. We went on a Saturday night for a birthday where we had pre booked the beer pong table. We constantly had to ask a group of people that wanted to play to stop trying to play whilst we were playing and to come back after our hour was up. The group of people seemed to know the bar staff and were suffering from some sense of drunken entitlement. In between hugging the bar staff they were lounging over the table and trying to pick up the cups we were playing with. They then proceeded to rifle through our coats claiming they were looking for theirs and in doing so stole one of our coats and left. When we reported this to the bar staff and asked if they could help us get the coat back or let us know if one was handed in they shrugged. This was the same bar tender that had just spent the last hour with his arms around one of these girls so when we said that clearly he knew them and asked him to help us get the coat returned he seemed amused and said he didn’t know them and walked away from us. Unbelievably rude staff and clientele, I won’t be returning.

A dead bar in Shoreditch is never a good sign on a Saturday night. I had the pleasure of coming into this bar because I was taking part in a bar crawl organised by my friend, otherwise, I would never have thought to come here. Nothing stood out about this bar except for the ping pong tables placed in the of the venue. If you are looking for something more sophisticated, you’re at the wrong place. What was most disappointing was their cocktail menu. Only 1 out of all their bar staff was the cocktail specialist(one of their staff members pointed at another staff as we tried to order a Swedish orgasm). When we tried to order again, the cocktail guy ignored us and asked someone else to make the cocktail. I was rather appalled with how they made it and how much ice the left in the martini glass. I’m not a cocktail specialist, but I’m sure I didn’t order an ice coffee with extra ice! Not coming back. Ever!

I went here for lunch with two of my friends to catch up and we quite liked it. For a pub/bar serving food, I’m putting it up there! It’s a nice little place to visit especially after a long day at the Schengen visa office near to it. I was welcomed not only by hugs from my friends upon arrival but also to a well attended waiter. He took our orders, charged our almost flat iPhones and got us some chilly sauce(lots of it) without us even asking for that much. That made me happy. There are two ping pong tables, one on each side of the bar. It was free to play, no deposits needed which is always good. The food was good as well. I had the falafel and hummus wrap which I didn’t want to stop eating mostly because I’m a sucker for it. My friends got the chicken wrap which they really seemed to enjoy too. I paid £13 for a wrap and a glass of white wine which I think is quite reasonable for the Shoreditch area. If I’m back at the visa centre, which is very likely, this is become my new little spot. Nothing fancy, just quirky!

Rude bouncers ruin nights out, why don’t bars get this? I came here for a Doctors Orders night so was expecting some sort of organisation. Imagine walking in, being told the cloakroom isn’t open yet, then when it finally opens you have to queue for 45 mins while they mess around with the bouncer being rude to you while you wait. The word please goes a long way. The bar was ok, but the staff on the way in really let this place down.

Popped in here for a stag last week and, after I got over my overwhelming urge to nip into Worship Street Whistling Shop, I actually realised it was a surprisingly decent place for a beer pong joint. Décor/ambience is alright, but you’re not likely coming here for that. Beer pong was good fun, though significantly more challenging with the dinky Bacardi goblets rather than big red/white plastic cups. Greater difficulty is not necessarily a bad thing though. Drinks selection is pretty damn solid — we were looking for a crap spirit to put in to one of the cups for the unfortunate soul who had to neck it, and I struggled to find anything on their shelves which wasn’t at least half-decent. Likewise their beer selection includes some great Belgians e.g. Vedett, Leffe. Service was warm and helpful, though one server was a bit dozy, assuring us they didn’t have chilli vodka when I was staring directly at a bottle of Absolut Peppar. We sampled some of their nachos which, whilst dripping in almost excessively generous levels of toppings, were surprisingly delicious and really hit the spot. All in all — it fits the bill really nicely for what it’s trying to do. I wouldn’t go out of my way to pop by, but it’s worth popping your head in if you’re in the area and fancy playing beer pong, which is almost impossible to find in the UK.

I found out about Blueberry Bar via Design my Night, when looking to book a birthday venue for my partner. In short, we were pretty disappointed. Though a few of the positive reviews I have seen for this space have been for after work drinks, I wouldn’t recommend this space for bookings — unless you enjoy long lines, hefty cover charges, and impolite/rude service. 1) Service — Pretty rubbish. We booked out a space for 30 friends and I was told in advance there was no cover charge. Apparently this is difference from«entrance fee» which on the night was 8 quid(what?!). We agreed after some back and forth that all friends that came an hour and a half into our table booking would pay half of that and get to jump the queue. I spent the majority of the night going inside and outside as friends called me telling me they were being turned away from the venue or charged 8 quid. I’ve never had so much trouble outside central London trying to bring business into a bar that we had already booked space in — In fact, our whole reason for avoiding central London was to be in the more relaxed, non-elitist east London space — unfortunately not the case here. 2) Space — Underutilised. We had a table space towards the front of the venue. By around 11PM although there was quite a bit of space in the back, everyone was concentrated to the front area making it more smushed than it needed to be by the time dancing started. Although this could technically be one of our locals given the location, we won’t be coming back or recommending — a disappointment for sure though we’ve been happy with Design my Night bookings in the past!

We ordered some veggie nachos to share and after a couple of bites each felt something wasn’t right. It wasn’t we(3 veggies) had been given meat nachos. The manager was nonchalant about it and explained that the chef had a sore throat so wasn’t able to tell the waiter whether they were meat or vegetarian. An apology was not forthcoming. Neither was a goodwill gesture and we were hard pressed to even get a refund. Unbelievably poor service. Whilst I am feeling sick that I’ve eaten meat for the first time in 15 years, mistakes do happen and I’m more appalled that the manager hardly apologied and made no effort to compensate us.

This place is qute near my work so as well as being convenient it also has a nice vibe, and on the Friday night I went, had a DJ spinning some funky tracks. A few other times Ive been, there’ve been some good deals(4 beers for a tenner etc), which is probably why Ive come back. The other thing I liked about this place(aside from the cocktails being a decent strength) was that firstly the doormen were quite nice, and didnt mind you taking your drinks outside as long as they were in a plastic glass, but also that the barmen/women remember your order not just from you, but also your group! Getting a round in had never been easier :) Also worth mentioning that Ive eaten here once, and that all my mates came out with lots of appreciative ‘Mmm’ and ‘Ahhh’ sounds!

I liked this bar! Some of the people in my group thought it was a bit grotty, but I am a sucker for a dive vibe. I loved the fairy lights and the fact that it wasn’t too busy in here — even on a Friday night. Not too banker-y and enough space to groove to fairly poppy music. The loos were also queue-free and spacious enough for my shenanigans ;) My cocktail went straight to my head — Very Berry — bit like alky’s Ribena! Would return x
