Regular place for a cheeky pint. What I like about this place is that whilst being near bank and its ilk it manages to keep a really classic London pub feel. I should start with the fact that they do a decent pint of Harvey’s Best. Apparently that’s hard to come by. They also do other drinks(surprisingly) and really nice looking bar snacks(pizza, scotch eggs I think, sausage rolls etc). It all looks rustic and really nice! Generally I’ve always had a decent time in here. Bar staff are friendly, clientele are generally decent, chilled out and decent drink! Like I said. Classic London pub feel. Nothing fancy. I can’t write a 1000 word poem about their philosophy towards craft ales. They do decent drinks(and I postulate decent food) and it’s a nice place to be.

Oh dear, oh dear. Hipster heaven on the edge of Shoreditch just about covers it all off. Probably once a grand bar on the ground floor — a large island in the centre of the room surrounded by the obligatory«distressed» tables. On a Monday night we were alone apart from a small number of local hipsters. The beer wasn’t anything special at all. Upstairs then, to our private room in the roof — only one working bulb, so we had to send down for candles so that we could see each other. I had mackerel pâté — which came without bread, just some sliced cucumber — followed by the flat iron steak. The former tasted OK but, by that point, I could have happily eaten my own shoes, I was that hungry. The latter may well have been my own shoes — except for the fact that it wasn’t a lot larger than my toe nail. If you really want to experience the«out there» side of Shoreditch(read: Every looks the same, because they’re trying to be different), then there are numerous other places better equipped to deal with you. I won’t be going back.

I’m going to give a begrudging second star. Why? Because the place is lovely, and with a bit of cleaning and staff training, this could be a really nice place. What’s not to like? Underfilled pints, Dirty lines in all of four ale casks — all four of them were nearly undrinkable with that lovely arse flavour. Indifferent service. Expensive. What’s to like? Well, the selection of beers would be nice if they were drinkable. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

Aaah, I hate it when things try to be something they’re not. My exes would tell you that’s a textbook case of self-loathing, but I attribute it to my refined sensibilities and dignified demeanor. That being said, Fox, dudes, you’re trying waaaaay too hard. Don’t advertise great food and then fail to deliver. I understand that the happy hour 2-for-1 special is a good deal, but I wasn’t impressed with what came out of the kitchen. It was solid bar food, but not befitting the lofty pronouncements written on the chalkboards outside. I can totally see how this place would be the bees knees come 10 pm, but stay away during the day(hey, that rhymes).

The Fox on a normal Thursday and Friday night is amazing, it is always buzzing with loads of people, great vibe and I always have a great time when I go there. The ground floor room is a big central bar and etched glass windows, some really nice food including tapas-style plates that come from the kitchen serving the lovely first floor restaurant. The bar offer a good selection of drinks including Ales, Bombardier, Bitter, Red Stripe, San Miguel and Foster’s well that’s just the beer type drinks, they also stock some lovely AFFORDABLE wine. If your under 25 you will love this venue, it’s right down our street(get the pun there?).
