Great local pub with an even better atmosphere! Good drinks and friendly people. They also have an Open Mic on Wednesday nights that is a great place to hangout with very talented performers. Go check it out! Haven’t tried the food myself but I’ve heard from those I’ve been with that it is pretty standard pub food and good quality.

Great pub near my office. Meal prices are higher than some but food quality is excellent. They have some good appetizers for a decent price(fried squid for less than £5 and sweet potato fries for £3, for example). The specials board notes two sirloin steaks with a dessert each and a shared bottle of wine for £32. Note: nothing gluten free but a salad. For the wine drinkers: buy 2 glasses, get the whole bottle! Every day, all day. Makes the better wine cheaper than drinking house wine by the glass. Bonus: toilets on the ground floor, so no drunk gymnastics en route to the basement for a wee. Double bonus: ladies toilet has two very spacious and clean stalls. No worries if you’re in your work clothes and tights! And you can’t beat the friendly staff. This place is a gem.

Great Pub with a Great Crowd I used to come here all the time when I lived in London after classes. It was the pub we all gravitated to — good beer, friendly service, solid food, and good times. Everything you need in a neighborhood staple watering hole

Now under new management, and quite a transformation. I’ve lived in the area for ten years, and quite frankly avoided it like the plague. In the past it had a terrible reputation, with a very dodgy clientele, constant breaches of the licence, and a reputation for being a place where you could purchase things other than drink. Now completely changed, and is amazing. The bar now serves the cheapest bottle of Sauvignon in the area, and its great, as well as some better and obviously more expensive options. There’s a great selection of beers on draught, including Peroni. The pub inside is immaculate, staff are attentive and polite, and actually talk to the customers. Music plays, but you can actually hear yourself think. The food menu has been transformed, instead of deep fried, microwaved and chips which it was in the past, it now offers great traditional favourites, as well as healthy salad and snacks. Some great vegetarian alternatives as well. Loved the Roast Beef wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding. Well done to the new management, its now back on our list of regulars, and will definitely be returning

Quiet on a Friday night, now serving Greene King food menu. Was pretty impressed

Pretty awful no atmosphere, expensive drinks, rude staff and not so good food. Was pretty dead when I visited it, and found extra cold drinks not so extra cold, and my wine was corked. There are much nicer venues in the area which are well worth trying like The Blue Lion, The Yorkshire Grey, The Wilmington and The Packenham Arms.

A good standby pub with good enough food… The apple tree doesn’t shine bright as one of the stars of the area, and yet I keep going back. Perhaps it is simply the proximity to my work, perhaps the fact that if you ask nicely and there are a few of you they let you have the big upstairs room for your group(free of charge), perhaps the summertime joy of hundreds of slightly inebriated office workers crammed onto the pavement outside in lieu of a large outside space, who knows, but it still keeps a place in my heart for it’s okay ales, average winelist and edible enough food. Don’t dismiss it, but don’t expect fireworks… Oh yeah, one thing that does stand out is the occasionally quirky art on display… UPDATE: A recent refurb has added a spot of brightness to the previously drab interior!

Very good cosy pub, especially for winter evenings. The beers are decent and if you get here early(say 5.30) then you can grab one of the tables before things start to get crowded. However, it’s not especially worth a trip to visit this pub, rather a place to come to if you’re already in the area or heading on somewhere else. Can get very busy, but always seems to have a relaxed atmosphere.

This pub is disappointing. I was told that it was one of the better pubs of the area but it wasn’t. The beer selection was poor, it wasn’t massively comfortable and much of the clientele were seemingly going in and out of the loo for reasons other than relieving themselves. Not one for me I’m afraid.

This place is one of the only pubs around Exmouth Market to have avoided completely turning into a pretentious ‘bar’. Sure, it’s been re-furbished and tarted up, but it still retains a vibrant and buslting character. It can get very busy on a Friday and Saturday, but the atmosphere is usually vibrant and boistrous, as opposed to drunken and annoying. The food is good, if a little over-priced, but a welcome addition is the live music that takes place semi-regularly in the upstairs function room. Although small, it boasts a cracking, friendly atmosphere, and everybody seems want to have an enjoyable evening. this leads to a nice, sociable feeling amongst strangers, and has a lot to rcommen it. All in all, this is a good meeting place if you are gathering in Clerkenwell, and allso an excellent place to come to pre-club.
