By luck we ended up here and I have to say there are no words to describe the food. The place itself is tidy, dont be put of by it. The food is amazing and quite cheap for the portions and quality. We had the pulled pork sandwich, a soup and a cat fish noodle salad and wow we were full!!! And our mouth on fire, be careful if you say you want it spicy, I am going to be Mrs Dragon all afternoon now but still worth it

We happened to be in the area and we were in the mood for a snack… a banh mi sounded delicious! From the outside, the place doesn’t look like anything special but, don’t let the outside deter you! Delicious banh mi await you! As you walk in, you realize how tiny the storefront is. While there is a minimum amount of seating(for 6 comfortably) it really does seem more like a to-go spot. There was a small cold case with some pre-made summer rolls and other goodies but we were there for the banh mi. The menu isn’t extensive but I prefer places that focus in on their speciality instead of serving everything under the sun. We decided to go with the Hoi-an Special(£5) which came with roasted pork belly, omelette and Vietnamese pork roll. Since the place is so small, we saw every part of the process to make our banh mi and you could tell these ladies knew what they were doing! The bread got a slight toast in the toaster oven and then was slathered with some jus, toasted slightly again and then came the piling on of ingredients. Everything was meticulously placed on the roll. We had asked for extra spicy and a generous helping of fresh chilies was added to our banh mi. Our first bite was heaven. The bread was soft and fresh with a slightly crispy exterior, the herbs and pickled vegetables were fresh and bright cutting through the fattiness of the meats(which were also warm — yum!). The omelette was a new one for us in a banh mi but we loved the softness of the egg just adding something a bit different. I mean, egg makes everything better. We were a little disappointed to have only gotten one… but that just means we will have to come back! This is definitely our new favorite spot for banh mi. If only it was a bit closer but we will surely make the trek. Plus, now that I know their banh mi is good, I gotta try their chicken phở!

I once left work half an hour early so I could make it before Bánh Mì Hoi-An’s 6pm closing time. I twice turned up on a Sunday, only to remember that they’re ALWAYS closed on Sundays — wishful thinking I suppose. Of course the banh mi and phở are top class, but I come here first and foremost for the noodle salads — rice vermicellli, fresh herbs, lettuce, cucumber, meat, fish or tofu, Vietnamese mayo and tangy sweet and sour sauce. I’m pretty into this place. You will be too.
