My local indian restaurant — has yet to disappoint me in any way. The staff are always friendly, everything arrives promptly and the food is always delicious and of a consistently high standard. I would recommend Bengal Bertie’s to anyone!

Pretty good/standard Indian food. I enjoyed it!

I love curry, but I don’t love curry from Bengal Berties. The Sauces tasted below average(but not terrible), but the meats they use were obviously of a fairly low quality. The rices were nothing special, and the breads forgettable. These guys need to work harder if they are going to compete with the competition, as this area has some excellent Indian take aways.

Had a nice takeaway – good standard stuff – I was very happy with my Chicken Dhansak. I’m used to slightly cheaper places with similar quality out east.

So, a blast from the past. As we walked towards this place, we passed a couple of girls that looked a bit like Princess Diana circa 1985, then another couple that reminded me of «Desperately seeking Susan»(starring Madonna innit?). All this was ominous to the dining experience in Berties’. The window says they opened in 1984, and if feels a bit 1980s. It is a bit depressing that they don’t have flock wallpaper, but other than that, it’s like going back 20 years. This is not necessarily negative, and at least it had some claim to authenticity. Mind you, if this were Dalston, they’ll put someone with moustache, and claim it’s a vintage curry house, but I digress. The place was reasonably busy(given it’s got a handful of tables, it’s easy to fill it up). They have some booths which are rather spacious, but initially we were given a table next to the door, where the guy doing the deliveries had to squeeze everytime he was going out. They eventually shifted us to one of the booth tables. As I said, these are quite spacious, presumably to accommodate Sam Fox’s ample boob-age(see, we’re in an 80s mood!). We got some poppadums and pickles, which were OK. I had half a pint of Kingfisher which wasn’t really OK. Food was lamb tikka dhansak, lamb rezzalla and tarka dhall, rice and naan. The food was good, in a local curryhouse sort of way, if a bit too oily(in particular the lamb rezalla). The lamb dhansak was a bit too sweet for my taste, but overall, the food was competent. The tarka dhall were really good, with plenty of garlicky bits at the botton. The toilets deserve a special mention. Look, I’m no fond of Grand Designs and tarting the bog up, but the bog here is interesting. Clearly someone has gone out and bought the toilet, and made a decision on this, and then exchanged some money. Why then, would anyone in their right mind choose a colour that can only be described as an organic shade of green/brown, termed by Cezanne«too much sag paneer after them beers last night, hey?». So, it was nice and cozy, in a go back to something you know well sort of way, and I guess that’s why the locals find it enticing. But you probably have a curryhouse that is similar or slightly better near where you live.

Ordered from here after trying the whole menu from my favorite curry joint(tiffin tin) had the chicken tikka masala with saag panir side and garlic naan. Have to say I was quite disappointed. The curry sauce was very tasty but the chicken was average, the sag panir side was way to dry and overkilled by spinach not enough cheese and my garlic naan was burnt. Delivery time was quick(30 mins) probably won’t order again though. Shame

I’ve not yet had the opportunity to visit the restaurant but Bengal Berties is my go-to for an Indian takeaway. You can wait for up to an hour on a weekend for the delivery but surely the fact that they’re so busy is a sign of a decent meal? I’d recommend the chicken jalfrezi and peshwari naan. Delicious food and friendly service. I’ll definitely be popping into the restaurant soon.

This is our favourite Indian place in North London — both for eating in or out! In fact, I really like coming to this place on a cold winter night, as it is so very cozy inside… not that the interior is very cool or noteworthy; no, it just radiates warmth and comfort… plus the amazing smell from the kitchen! What should you order? — Well, it all depends on what you like, but here’s a selection of what we usually order: — Chicken Tikka Masala(I know, it’s so cliché, but this one has a nice coconut-note, which makes it very tasty!) — Any of the Dupiaza dishes(either with lamb, chicken or even veggie) — Chicken Danzak I would also recommend ordering the papadoms for appetizers as the waiting time can sometimes be a little long.(Which I absolutely don’t mind as I know that they prepare it fresh here!)

My fiancé and I were in the area, browsing the goodies at Second Layer and started to get hungry. We asked the owner if he knew of a good curry house nearby and he highly recommended Bengal Berties. We wandered in, sat down and enjoyed the food so much there that we went back to eat here again the next night! I’d rate the curry at Bengal Berties amongst the top 5 I’ve ever eaten. I like mine mild and creamy but my fiancé likes his spice and heat and his was delicious too. The service was superb on both nights and the quality of the food was high. Drinks were reasonably priced too, which was also a big plus. The booth we were seated at was spacious and comfy– good for groups. The full menu is available for delivery(not sure of the delivery charges or anything though, sorry). So why not 5 stars? Mainly because of the portion size. I know quality is better than quantity but when the food is this good, I want both!
