It’s a shame there aren’t more breakfast item options. When requesting for a tomato to be removed from the bagel, the member of staff seemed to feel this as «too much work» and her conduct went even further down hill from there.

This is my favorite coffee/sandwich shop on Cannon Street. The mochas are awesome and you can customize your sandwich to be made on the spot rather than having to grab the typical pre-made crap they sell at other places. The bread is quite good, the meat and cheeses are very fresh, and you can get your sandwich toasted. The staff are friendly and very efficient, and there’s a pretty large eat-in area. Even at the rush hour peak I don’t think I’ve waited longer than 5 minutes for my order. Definitely recommend.

Good stuff all in all, everything is competently done. Salad’s in particular are made with very good quality ingredients and the interior has a lot of character. Coffee is a cut above the usual suspects although the baked goods, whilst yummy looking are always a bit crumbly and dry. Coffee snobs(myself included!) might want to walk across the street to Bow Lane where independent stalls do coffee better but to be honest, if you want good food, good coffee and a trendy, open décor in which to sit down and eat then you can’t go wrong with Benugo.

With Nuvo around the corner, I’m not sure why Benugo thinks displaying their lackluster sandwiches will convince anyone to buy one. I like that you can customize your sandwich though, they do have a wide selection. Their pastries are very dense– muffins are stodgy, chelsea buns stodgy, there’s nothing delicate about any of them. The coffee is okay though. You can choose to eat in or take away, but I think I’m just going to stay away altogether.
