For lovers of French food it is hard to find a good, inexpensive restaurant in Paris, let alone London. I don’t often crave French cuisine, but when I want it – I can’t stop thinking about it! Reservations are a must at this little French bistro, with just a few tables nestled into a small, but cozy intimate space. Like all good French meals, when you book the table its yours for as long as you’d like. The selection of wines and imported beers and traditional French courses urge you to stay longer. The dimly lit atmosphere is also quite romantic, though, admittedly the first time I went it was with two other people and we found it a nice place to sit and relax over a bottle of wine! My best advice for dining here… finish with the chocolate soufflé. Though in my stay in London I’ve come to obsess over Gu, which can be bought at your local supermarket – nothing can compare to the real deal.

Passage café is amazing! I lived just a couple of blocks away and saw it often but never remembered to try it, but I looked up their website and it said dine-in or takeaway so I thought I’d pop in for a take away steak diane(which, let me just say in the states a steak is totally a take-away food) and they seemed a little baffled that I wanted takeout… but accommodated nonetheless and it was amazing. Well worth the humble 10 pound pricetag. The café itself is tiny… very very very tiny. So make a reservation to avoid being disappointed(no, really, there’s just maybe like 8 tables there. if that) but there’s an online booking form from their website. A true taste of Parisian life in Clerkenwell. I’m sad I moved away from it!

Whenever I eat at the Passsage Café it’s so easy to think I’m actually in a Parisian bistro and not a Clerkenwell Café. I first discovered this place when I worked nearby and was so impressed I have returned quite a few times since. The three cheese crêpe is so good and at £3.50 for the regular is very reasonable. If you have more of a sweet tooth than savoury then you’ll love the choices. I think I have tried all of the sweet crepes and they are all so delicious but the nutella and almods has to be my favourite. I could probably have one everyday but as I’m not a fan of the gym I don’t think that would be a good idea– shame! There is also a great atmosphere in the evening and the dinner menu is traditional French food with equally good prices.

This tiny café tucked away in Jerusalem passage is easy to miss and not particularly notice-worthy at first glance, but is worth exploring for. Selling a variety of French and Belgian treats, including crêpes with delicious fillings and mariolles this is a popular venue for lunch or a light dinner. Even better, on Monday nights they host cooking classes to sharpen your skills in gallic faire.
