Having searched much of Marylebone for an Indian restaurant that didn’t want to redefine Indian cuisine and charge you for the privilege of eating in the area we ended up at Bombay Spice, where my friends had eaten before. The menu consists of some of the usual English-Indian favourites(lamb pasanda, chicken tikka masala) plus a few dishes that added a bit of interest for anyone fancying a change from the norm(scallops, tandoori quail). The staff were friendly and the service was swift, without ever feeling rushed or like the food had been overly pre-prepared. Given the location(close to Baker Street /Madame Tussauds and not far from Marble Arch /Bond Street) the prices were very reasonable and similar to what you would pay outside of the tourist areas of Central London. Overall, a good meal for a reasonable price. Nothing fancy but if you’re looking for somewhere to grab a relaxed dinner with friends this will do the job very nicely.

Bombay Spice serves up quality Indian food at decent prices. As a student, the 20% discount is really nice. They also offer 10% off all take away orders. The service is good and the waiters very friendly. After just a few visits they remembered my order. I always order the cheese nan! It’s perfectly pan fried with a gooey, cheesy inside. The chicken korma, tikka masala, and paka are all delicious! If you prefer lamb or vegetables in these wonderful sauces, just ask. They will be more than happy to prepare that for you, even if it’s not listed on the menu. Bombay Spice is right next to another Indian restaurant, but it is surely the better of the two. Next time you’re in Marylebone, try it for yourself!

While the food is decent, not great, it’s an easy, casual spot to grab a bite, with a 25% student discount. There’s quite a bit of selection, and they are flexible in letting you adjust your plate to more or less spicy.(Just don’t forget to say please… the staff always seems rather grouchy!) Highly recommend coming at lunch hour instead of dinner. The wait to receive your food can feel long even at lunch time, but during the dinner hour, the restaurant is far busier. Plus, they offer lunch specials and a discount for take-away.

So, during my first two full nights in London I had take-away from two Indian restaurants that are literally right next door to each other and half-a-block from my place. I figure I should make them two of my first reviews, and might as well knock it out in a two-fer review. Here we go. The two places are The Rajadoot, with the prime corner position, weighing in at 3.5 stars on 2 reviews, and Bombay Spice coming in with 4.5 stars on a hefty 4 reviews. In short — they both serve fine food, but so far I don’t see what all the«London has the best Indian food in the world!!!111one!» fuss is about. With a one-full-star lead, and twice the review count, Bombay Spice easily won my business the first night. I was at first put off by the white table clothes, but upon further observation of the city I have determined that there must be a law here that requires all Indian restaurants have white table clothes. Once inside the feeling was relaxed, not pretentious, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. At Bombay Spice I decided to go with the tried and true Butter Chicken. It was obvious that the dish was made with love of quality ingredients, and I especially liked the addition of sliced almonds, but the spicing was too bland for my pallet. It was disappointing because the rice was so fragrant and appealing that I would guess that this place is not afraid to spice things appropriately. This might have been just a poor order, but it was listed on the«chef’s suggestions» portion on the menu, so they do not get a pass. The next night I found myself hungry late night at 10:15PM on a Sunday, with just about everything in sight closed. After being rejected from a couple of other places I begrudgingly decided to go for Indian again. Obviously too embarrassed to go to the place I went the night before, I headed for Rajadoot and was happy to see the 3 bored staffers gaze upon me expectantly as I approached the door. It turns out they are open noon to midnight, 7 days a week, including holidays. At first I was going to play it safe again and order the Chicken Tikka Masala. But, after being upsold on an appetizer, I discussed Chicken Tikka Korai(which I had never had) with the waiter. He sold me on it primarily by saying it was«medium spicy». Remembering the rather bland Butter Chicken from the previous night I decided to switch things up I told him to change my order because I liked things very spicy. He replied: «If you like spicy that’s a good choice, I things very spicy, but for you, medium spicy.» To my disappointment, it turned out that I couldn’t even detect the spiciness in the dish. And the appetizer was a bland fried shrimp. But, the flavors in the Korai were actually good, so if I could get it actually spicy maybe this place could earn an extra star. In the end, two more Indian restaurants that confirm my feelings on Indian food: meh — 3 stars each.

We tried Bombay Spice on our recent trip to London. The experience was ok, not great, not bad, just ok. The place is a bit cramped, especially the back little sunken room they seated us. It was a bit warm too. I ordered butter chicken and I must say, it was not what I expected. I haven’t had enough Indian food in London to know whether that is a standard way to prepare it in London or that Bombay just does it differently. Regardless, it was still tasty. The naan we ordered, both plain and garlic, were delicious. So, although I can’t say that I am a ‘fan’ of their food, it is still pretty decent.

I love this place. I only ate here once, but it was a great experience. I had chicken korma for the first time here and now I am forever hooked. Its my favorite indian dish. All the food was pretty good, the prices are decent and the waiters were friendly.

Lunch here on Wednesday. Used to be a regular before I changed jobs. Its a perfectly good curry place although it can be a little greasy. Good value though and friendly waiters. The kingfisher on tap is better than the bottled cobra.

I only just remembered eating at this place after finding a receipt in my wallet just now, it left that little an impression. That said, it was one of those late night currys, so take this review with a pinch of salt. From what little I remember, the curry was fine, but unremarkable. The service was pretty quick, but then I think they just wanted to go home.

Aside from the 10% discount offered to those who opt to take away their meals, Bombay Spice is worth paying full price. As a fan of Indian food, I love the vast selection on the menu. Here, you’ll find the traditional Tandoori, Biriani and Vindaloo dishes along with some added flair! The menu includes quail, king prawns and of course samosa. Starters and sides are ridiculously well-priced for the area! You can get a started for as low as 2.10. There’s also plenty of nan and lassi to go around!
