Admittedly, I only had the soup and avocado on toast, so cannot comment on the schnitzel. But that meal was good and well priced for the area. The grapefruit cocktail was fantastic and would consider calling in again just for a drink! Pay it a visit

I bookmarked this place to try after walking by on my way to work. The place specializes in Schnitzel, that traditional Viennese dish. I thought it’ll be nice to try something else for a change. Foodwise it was good. Not rolling on the floor good bit still quite tasty. I was a bit surprised by the prices though. The Schnitzel as a main without sides is £12. That was a bit expensive for lunch so I turned to the schnitzel roll(£6) and a side(£4). That was the perfect quantity for lunch. I would try the desert next time, if I have a bit more money to spend. Place itself is very very pretty(to be honest that’s what caught my eye, more than the menu): wooden table, nice bar, flowers and pretty plates(yes that’s important).

Best traditional German food in London! Great drinks and food with amazing prices! The staff is very friendly and they are fun and energetic! Come in for a nice meal and drinks and enjoy the authentic cuisine of Vienna! The service is 5 star and the food matches! I will be coming back for years to come! I suggest the #2 or #3 cocktail paired with the wiener snitzel! You won’t be disappointed! The house ale as well is the best beer I have found in London made by a local brewery! From top to bottom the entire experience has been amazing and unfortunately I have to fly home to LA tomorrow otherwise I would be the first person at the door tomorrow for breakfast! Don’t waste your time and come on in!

Schnitzel and spritz’s — what’s not to like? It’s crazy how good anchovy is with pork schnitzel and gravy!

We were a group of four, the first thing to note is that service was very friendly but we were waiting an hour for our food to arrive. I had a schniztel and spaetzle. The schnitzel was very large and definitely overcooked and therefore quite dry. The spaetzle was also a good size but again not much to write home about. I tried some sauerkraut too, again I was not blown away. The house beer was the highlight, very tasty. The price was high though, nearly thirty pounds. I admit I ordered a greedy amount of food, but that is not cheap for the quality. I don’t think there is an overabundance of this kind of food in London, so it might be worth a try.

I have heard a lot of great things about this place from different reviews, so I thought I would have to try it myself. Knowing a bit about a good schnitzel, I was bit disappointed by how dry the schnitzel was. I also got a side of the pickled cucumbers and also one of their soups and neither once was exceptional. Other than that though, the place is clean, small and the service is quick and friendly. The waitress told me that they will start serving goulash soon, so I might have to come back to try it.

I loved the name of this place(at least, I did after realising that my date was *not* in fact saying ‘boob-shes’ and about to take me somewhere seedy). I guessed it would be some sort of eastern cuisine, but in fact this place is homely Austrian comfort food all the way. Given that, the place is unexpectedly stark; Scandi-esque long wooden tables and benches, and black-and-white walls in a canteen-style setting. We sat at the table nearest the front window which meant I had to get up a few times to let the party next to me slide in and out the bench. The menus appear on cute little clipboards and are short and sweet — though my eyes are immediately drawn to those 3 magic words that just make the world a better place: Prosecco On Tap. Winning so far! Food-wise you face 3 questions: what meat do you want your schnitzel, what’s on top and what’s on the side. I went for chicken(though the traditional meat is veal) with capers whilst my companion went for pork with an egg on top. The meat is thinned to about a centimetre thick then breaded and fried — nice enough but I can’t honestly say it’s too different to something breadcrumbed I’ve gotten from a bird’s eye packet and put in the oven. They were a bit stingy with the sauce too so we asked for more(though my carafe of prosecco was also useful to stop it getting too dry). The spatzle ‘n’ cheese was probably my fave side — though you can’t go too wrong with a bowl of warming stodge on a cold evening. Tried to add some healthiness with an artichoke too, which was the first time I’d ordered one whole but followed my date’s lead in pulling off the leaves to dip in the sauces and(hopefully) eating the edible part as if I knew exactly what I was doing :-$ You may think you’ve been schnitzeled and spritzeled enough at this point, but don’t go without getting strudeled too — it’s grandmother’s apple strudel recipe and SO worth finding a teeny bit more room for! I think our waiter doubted us though, as he brought the bill over when we were trying to make the sign for dessert menu… yeah, we showed him! Watch out for the bunker-like toilets downstairs — 5ft11 of me managed to bang my head and given the ceiling slopes downwards the rest of you have been duly warned. The service was a little abrupt at first but warmed up as the meal went on, and by the end was chatty enough for me to ask about the name — turns out ‘boopshi’ it was a term of endearment between the grandparents of the brothers who opened the place, and means the equivalent of ‘sweetcheeks’. Too cute, right?! Worth trying once for the novelty factor of finding an Austrian place in the middle of the West End, but it’s certainly pricey for what it is. As such I’m not in a hurry to go back, which is a bit of a shame given I like saying the name so much!

If only I hadn’t gone here during a work lunch on a busy week, as the aperol spritzes looked divine! Based in Fitzrovia, this is a good spot to go for a relatively quick lunch with friends/colleagues. The takeaway menu here is different from the sit down menu and as I went to sit down I tried the Rose Veal Schnitzel. Having just took a holiday to Salzburg a couple weeks before trying Boopship, I have to say this wasn’t the best shitzel I’ve had in awhile. The real reason for going would need to be the side dishes — As we went as a big group we ordered one of all of them, and this is definitely where I’d spend my carb-filled time. The spatzel and cheese was of particular delight with the sauerkraut a distant second. I’ll need to write another review if I can get in for the aperol spritz’ which, hands down, looked like the big highlight here. My suggestion would be to go for a light afternoon snack/drinks following work, honing in on those side dishes!

On first impressions Boopshi’s is certainly promising… I really liked the Scandi-feel décor, with the upscale Ikea-esque long communal pale wooden dining tables and large windows framing the room. The fresh tulips in bottle vases, pleasant welcoming service and water glasses filled on arrival gave it a relaxed homey feel. And I really enjoyed my initial fish-bowl glass of heavily iced cherry sherbet spritzer with orange slices; a welcome apéritif! I followed it up with a glass of rosé, which was also a well-chosen addition to the menu and just what I was looking for to accompany my pork schnitzel and sauerkraut. Although I wasn’t wowed by the food — the schnitzel was too overly breadcrumbed and crunchy for my liking, and the gherkins lacked a bit of bite, it was very pleasantly presented and served. I’d certainly return for the ambiance and the overall experience, plus the bar downstairs looked like a cool hangout.

We came here as I selected it for Unilocal book group as we had unknowingly selected another book about WWII. And why shouldn’t you eat schnitzel and sauerkraut while discussing time travel and the bombing of Dresden? I realized it didn’t have the best reviews, but it was close to my work, so I headed over. Strangely, it’s quite sparse inside. It has that Scandinavian/Nordic feel that seems to be popular these days which did feel a bit disjointed considering their food is Austrian. We all decided on pork schnitzel. And then we ordered a bunch of sides: sauerkraut, pickles, potato salad and fries. I also opted to get a duck egg on top of my schnitzel and the gravy. I really enjoyed the schnitzel. It was crispy and hot and not over-cooked. And the duck egg really added another layer of depth. The gravy also was super delicious. On the sides, I really liked the fries, sauerkraut and pickles.(Those pickles were damn tasty.) Unfortunately the potatoes in the potato salad were a bit underdone, and no one likes an underdone potato. I also got dessert. Some sort of shredded pancake with plum compote. It was awesome. Really not sweet at all(and for a dessert that’s saying something), and the plum compote was really tart and tangy. Definitely enjoyed everything. I even tried some of the drinks. The cocktail with grapefruit was really tasty and not sweet either. Props to this place for keeping the sweet levels reasonable. I also ordered a beer made especially for them from the Camden brewery. Tasty! If I ever feel a hankering for some Austrian comfort food, I know where to go!

I love the name, I love the simplicity of the concept. But something seems lacking, the minimal space errs just a bit on the side of barren and not fully thought out. This is one of those things that when it’s done right, you go with it, you can’t tell. But when something’s lacking, you just sort of feel the starkness. If they managed to address that missing ‘something,’ I think the prices would cease to be a consideration but as it is now, the amount you’re paying feels a bit over the top. Considering you’re getting a single breaded piece of meat on a ceramic Falconware plate(yes these plates are hip but in this case just adds to the feeling of starkness) for £13(and yes its generally tasty meat but still!), I just wanted that unknowable something more…

I could not be happier with this place. Boopshi’s does only a few dishes, and of those dishes they do them well. With schnitzel, sausages and sides being your options customers can expect a wonderful meal worthy of a impromptu date. I recommend ordering a main and two sides between two people, which will be set between a couple who can then pick to their hearts delight. With an informal atmosphere, a great drinks selection and staff who are attentive to your rumbling stomach this hidden gem is worth the trip.

The food at Boopshi’s is much like the restaurant itself. It’s nice, it’s comforting but it’s kind of bare bones. This is a very new one room well-lit spot down Windmill Street(with a basement area that was dark, so possibly not open or open until later in the evening). The walls are light coloured, the tables are made of wood, it feels more like a dining room than a restaurant. Which kind of works, since they’re serving home-feeling comfort food. I came for the schnitzel, which I’m not sure I’d ever really had before(or not in a long time). For those unfamiliar with the food, it’s a thinned meat that’s covered with breadcrumbs and fried. We tried the pork and the veal and they were good, soft, but a little flavourless. A nice dill sauce or something to go along with it might have been nice(but this comes solely from no experience with the food at all). It’s also expensive, for £11 to £14 for schnitzel that comes with no toppings or sides(we ordered an egg on top separately). The sides were… OK. The Mac and Cheese was semi-bland and tasted like a big glop of melted cheese with some noodles underneath. The saurkraut was fresh though and great to go on top and then pickles were amazing, sweet and salty all at the same time. Whatever they are doing with pickles, they need to be doing more. The bathrooms downstairs are a concrete caved room with very small ceilings(as I walked forward, I definitely smacked my head.) Fine when I was there alone but if it was crowded, maybe a different story. I’m not sure I’d rush to head back(unless I was really craving schnitzel) but if I found my way back here with friends, I wouldn’t complain. Especially for some more of those pickles.

I’ve had Schnitzel in Germany and I’m probably going to get a lot of stick for saying this, but it’s just an expensive turkey dinosaur or Bernard Matthews burger. And to be honest I prefer those. The meat is less chewy and it reminds me of primary school days :). If you’re a schnitzel fan, what do you like about it? Well, Boopshi’s is a place opened by two brothers or friends; can’t actually remember which. One of the founders we met on the night was extremely nice and seemed to be appreciative of our opinions on what we’d change about the place after our evening. We being there on opening night; expected some teething problems, and for sure they did occur. Food wise, I loved everything… apart from the Schnitzel. It was a little dry, hard to cut and not very tasty at all. The positive is that it was big. Now what surprised me were the fish dishes. They were spectacular. In our group, it was hands down decided the best dish of the night was the Smoked eel with bitter leaves, bacon and quails eggs. If you’re coming here. Please get this dish, and be sure to get it as a MAIN. The bitter leaves and there seasoning are flavours you won’t easily find around. We also had the chicken/pork Schnitzels with fried eggs on top, plus frankfurter. The schnitzels were as described earlier. The frank literally just that with a mustard sauce. Value for money. This place is pricey. For what you’re getting it’s way above what you’d expect in value terms. Even being a hip place, £11 for a Schnitzel doesn’t make sense. Nor does the £6 for dessert, which even fancy places usually don’t charge more than £5.50 for. Chips for instance don’t come with any dishes, but are sides. Fine when you’re in a place where your burger costs £6−7. But not really when your main dish is screaming for some carbs and they’re an extra £3.50. Despite this however all the food was REALLY good. I just wish it could be made more economical. Perhaps the limited space inside(only really 20 – 30 seats on the top floor with the downstairs a bar area) is a factor in this? That leads me conveniently onto teething troubles. We’d ordered dessert and was told when ordering that they all come with custard. Not our surprise when we received the bill and apparently only 1 of the desserts came with custard(a tiny portion I might add) and we’d been charged £1.50 for the two others. This wasn’t taken well, but we’d had a nice night and we were there on the 50% off opening, so it was a quite negligible sum in the scheme of things, but it wasn’t nice to see. If anything I would suggest incl. custard as optional for all the desserts. It was very good and surely doesn’t cost much to make and generates a little goodwill. The second setback was the bathrooms. You head downstairs and there’s a little drop just before the entrance to the bathroom area. It was poorly lit and I stumbled over it, leaning out to the wall to brace myself. Guess what. The walls are made from that rough texture you might find on the outside of houses in kent to withstand weathering. I nicely cut myself on that. Why oh why, they decided on that I can’t be sure. I did mention that however, and I hope they change it to prevent further injury, plus make a ramp where that drop was. The bathrooms themselves weren’t much better. We were told they had only been made«ready» the day before. So no paint, you could tell the plastering was still drying and the ceilings were very low and sloped so there was actually a lot less bathroom to use than you could actually see. Literally one of the worse bathrooms I’ve used in a restaurant. So in all, would I still recommend this place? Wholeheartely yes. I like to see local businesses thrive and the food + service was great. There were a few niggles with pricing, safety and clarity of product and what was included with dishes, but that’s solvable, and I believe the team will do their best to try and rectify these points. This would comfortably be a 4 star place with those things fixed. To end of a positive I also discovered a really nice apple/grape drink called Almdudler. :)

Not sure I’d pay extra for an egg, but the schnitzel was up there with the best schnitzel’s I’ve ever had. Décor is pretty plain up top, looks as if they’ve only just painted the place. There’s some booths downstairs, perhaps to hide the entrance to the loos which have diabolically low ceilings. It’s been a long while since I’ve had to lean backwards to spend a penny. Would definitely go back.

If you’re an Austrian in London and missing the food of the fatherland, or simply a Schnitzel junky, then this place is for you. I’m not either of those, but I enjoyed myself here. The menu offers a choice of veal, chicken or pork schnitzels, alongside other Austro-German favourites such as bratwurst, potato salad, sauerkraut and the indulgent«spetzle ‘n’ cheese»(basically macaroni cheese). We went for a chicken and a pork schnitzel with sides of spetzle, french fries and pickled gherkins, washed down with a glass of their own beer(specially brewed by the good people at Camden Town Brewery). The desserts looked tasty too, but alas we hadn’t the room for a wedge of sachertorte or slab of apfelstrudel. I was happy with the food and service overall. My only complaint would be the slightly keen prices — £12 for a schnitzel with no sides feels a bit steep. Nevertheless I would return if I had an Austrian or Schnitzel junky in tow!
