This is hands down my favourite coffee in Balham. That skinny cappuccino makes me happy in my happy places(my heart & mind, pervs). In all seriousness, there as been a positive correlation with my mornings spent stopping in Brickwood Balham and good days at work. Is it the cool vibes? Is it the good coffee? No one knows for sure(but most likely, yes to both). One thing I do know is that if they have a queue for brunch then clearly people totally dig them enough to wait. I for one fancy a cuppa on my way to work and get good service and good liquids to keep me going until lunch time. I kinda didn’t wanna write this review because now everyone and their mother are going to want to check this place out and I might have to queue longer, HOWEVER, I want their business to keep thriving in the stellar way it is because they deserve all the success(they’re opening up another one in Tooting now after only being in Balham for 6 months, nbd). I’m off to get some coffee now, my good dudes!

Popped into the Balham branch of Brickwood for a lazy Sunday brunch. Busy, especially with neighbour M1lk closed for refurbishments. Friendly staff, well intended food. Good flavours however after a substantial wait one dish arrived cold. Interesting décor — exposed brick, corrugated iron. However all these hard surfaces coupled with loud music mean you have to yell to have a conversation. I love caravan coffee but they have started using their own blend which I found tasted too bitter and slightly burnt. The waitress was really lovely, offering us a complimentary juice /coffee due to the wait for our food. Payment is made at the counter, which is always appreciated as it liberates you of the pressure of when to leave. Not a bad brunch but I prefer the Clapham Common branch.

Clapham Common’s Brickwood Café has just opened in Balham. Go early on a Saturday as the queue forms quickly! I recently had the brioche French toast with marscepone and berry compote and it was delicious! The menu is exciting — antipodean style. They take their coffee seriously too, complete with latte art. Definitely with queuing for.
